This place is more Americanized than anything...The service was wonderful even the cook was very nice except for the fact that he did not know how to make Kunefe and all he had to do was to say it WE DO NOT MAKE IT SORRY!...The reason I was very dissapointed the most was because nobody said that they use some kinda nasty cheese for Kunefe that its hard as a brick and it looked like it was taken out of some other dish and put in my kunefe it had some green fiber looking things in the kunefe maybe they took it out of some borek while they are making it who knows except for them... I had called this Cafe before I walked in to make sure that they actually use the same type of cheese imported from Turkey for it and they said they specially order it over here and its pretty good I should try it. I tried it alright!!!! I will never ever try that again in the U.S or any type of Turkish restaurant in the U.S because even Iskender Kebap does not taste the same because of the taste of the meat here in the U.S. This overall experience with Turkish restaurants in the U.S gave me a general opinion: Most of the stuff tastes good to the natives here because its smth different to taste for them but we being from the origin of the food...Turkish restaurants here are meant to be only Mediterreanean unless they start importing some Iskender Kebap meat or some cheese or at least use Mozarella for Kunefe it woulda already tasted way better for God sake. Pls forgive me for my harsh critisism but I would like to be told the truth before I have to drive 45 min. to reach to my dining destination in a terrible traffic also hopefully this note would help you all for all your potential better business...To be honest if I was told now that they started to import some Iskender meat and the same cheese from now on I d go back there again...

Ive been to this place at least once a week since I moved here (I live in the building). Love the food, the soup of the day is always good and the daily specials are always priced nicely. Ive never had a problem with the service and the food always comes pretty quickly unless theyre busy, I think its because they only have one cook. At least Ive only ever seen one cook. Hes good, though! Ive brought different groups of friends, and theyre always pleased with the food. If I had one complaint (and its a small one), its that the furnishings could use an upgrade. I think theyve done a pretty good job, though, considering that theyre on the half-basement level. If youre wondering exactly where it is, go to 34th street between Atlantic and Pacific, look at the front of the Mayflower building (#205). The Mayflower Cafe is on the left side of the main entrance stairs, halfway sunk into the ground. Happy eating!

Mayflower cafe is a small Seafood/Turkish restaurant tucked away neatly under the Mayflower apartments. I cant speak about the whole menu, but I can make at least one or two solid recommendations. Try the Iskender Kebab (only added to the menu recently). This mixture of nicely cooked gyro meet, layered with yogurt, tomatoes, sauce, and pita bread is quite possibly the best dish in the world...at least in my opinion (available spick or non-spicy). The hot bread brought out beforehand is also phenomenal (order it with a side of plain yogurt for dipping purposes to spice it up even more). The lentil soup and the spinach pies are great too. While the prices can occasionally be a little on the high end, go there and split something. My wife and I usually get an appetizer, bread, and an entree and both leave there stuffed. Great service, great cooks, and overall just a hidden gem of cuisine!

Just came back from a family vacation in VA Beach and Mayflower was the best restaurant experience the entire week.Their homemade pita bread is to die for! It goes great with their wonderful hummus which is fresh and made with just enough garlic. While the kids loved their generously portioned pasta dishes (the kids menu dishes are around $6/kid), my wife and I each had the mixed grill and mixed seafood entrees which were incredible. Their homemade crab cakes have a great cheezy twist to them. Wine selection wasnt bad and seemed very reasonably priced - we had a bottle of WA state Columbia Valley Sauvignon Blanc for less than $25. All in all, a great spot that I would always go back to when I return to VA Beach.

this place was great! the servers were super nice and helpful, we had smaller children. the food was amazing, the pita perfect. i was with a large group of people. all foodies, it was one of the quietest dinner i had ever had, everyone was too busy stuffing their faces. if you are in va beach. go there! if you are in va beach right now, put your shoes on. i will definitely eat there any time i am at va beach. my one negative. the restroom is a shared restroom with the other businesses in the building, it was horrible. i went to wash my hands, but after seeing/smelling the restroom, i decided not to.

Walked into Mayflower for lunch after hitting the beach. We already checked them out online and wanted to try their Lamb Shank. I got the lamb and my wife got the Kabab mix platter and both dishes were equally good. The amount of wine we were served could have been a little bit more (maybe we shoukd have gotten a bottle instead of glasses). Waitress and Hosts were great and the service was promped. The food was amazing and I cant get the Lamb Shank off of my mind. It was super tender and unbeliveably Tasty. A must try if in VB.

Great place for wholesome healthy cooked food in a destination filled with deep fried everything on every corner. Stayed in VA beach for 4 nights. Came here twice because it was so good. Had crab cake dinner and seafood trio highly recommended. My wife loved the chicken shish Kabob. Taram caviar spread with their fresh hot pita bread will be hard to not fill up on before your entree comes out. Theyre service is also very fast which is great after a long day at the beach.

Horrible service would sum it up well. Another reviewer said tons of vegan options, well if 2 is a ton then yes. The server was no help in figuring out options but wouldnt give us a min decide what to get. Never came to ask how we were doing, we had to go find someone to get a spoon. The check took forever and had to go ask for it. Had to ask for someone to take it back too. I am not coming back and not sure how it is so highly rated

Loved this place, it looks simple and old but the food and service are both great! The spicy eggplant appetizer is to die for, so is the Gyros over yogurt and the Adan Kabob. The appetizer sampler was great, really not one bad dish. Best of all is the the service was wonderful, our waitress was very busy yet she ran the food back and forth with a great attitude and was very attentive. Well back next time were in Va Beach for sure.
