This place is the new it place. The idea of it is really really good one. The food was terrific. I had the NC burger and it was quite tasty and it was nice to pair it with a side salad instead of the standard fries most places do. My wife had the heirloom waffles, I tried a little of the sausage it was really good, waffles were pretty good too. What lost a star was the waitstaff and the physical space. Though we had a reservation, we still had to wait about 15 mins for our party of 6. There is no real waiting space so you are just kinda crammed in at the door so you are in the way of those trying to leave, waitstaff, people eating at the window bar. There were several people waiting and they had a number of tables suited for 6 to 8 with just 2 people at them. They were clearing (what we thought was) our table and seemed to be doing so with very slowly. They apparently had a group of 8 coming and instead of putting us at that table, crammed us in a smaller table. The party that ended up at that table left the end of their table unused (unless they had others arrive late). I think this place either needs an area for folks to comfortably wait, expand or become more effective at managing the limited space they currently have. Aside from that our waiter was great, the food was great, he was very attentive and got our food quickly.

Today is Fathers Day, 2017. Our fist time in VA Beach and last day of 4 day vacation. Decided to take my wife and 3 kids (9,7,1) for nice breakfast. Thought a little walk (20min) would not hurt. 85 degrees today. When we got here, we were told they are hosting 2 big parties of 9 and 15? We were told the wait will be over 1.5 hours? I spoke with the manager and her response was that this is their policy to take all reservations? This is a tiny place, taking two huge parties that cripple your operations on on the busiest day of the year is NOT professional nor appropriate! The place is in the middle of nowhere and probably has no outdoor seating. We were not the only ones apparently being disappointed. There was a party that already waited outside, in the heat for 25 min. and were told to wait another 40min. ? In my restaurant this manager would be fired the next day!!! This is NOT how you run 4.6 star restaurant! I gave only 1 star because IT DOES NOT MATTER HOW GOOD THE FOOD IS IF YOU CANT EAT IT!

Are you kidding??!!! What an amazing experience. We showed up at 3:55pm (closing time is 4pm). We were encouraged and welcomed to come in, order and enjoy our meal. I had the barnyard salad and lemongrass tea; my husband had the cornmeal waffles with egg and sausage. It was beautiful!! It tasted "exciting” that’s right, exciting!! I kept discovering different vegetables and grains and tastes....my husbands waffles were incredible, he was raised on a farm where they made their own sausage, he had that "home again" feeling! This really is quite impressive. I implore you to stop in and try ANYTHING from the menu. Since we were there after hours, the community seating was not in effect. I am sad we missed that part, I think it adds to the already enticing ambiance---

Today I had the biscuits and gravy. Never in my life have I had biscuits and gravy on a bed of greens (salad) and a fried egg on top. Let me tell you something, that was the best biscuits and gravy I have ever had. I cleared the plate. I made sure to use the greens to sop up all the gravy and egg yolk that I missed with the biscuits. I also had to stop myself from picking up the plate and licking it clean, I was at a restaurant after all. 5 July 2017. Have you ever say down and starting eating something and start shaking your head because what youre eating tastes unbelievably good? Today I had the Pungo Creek Grits.

I have been to Commune 5 times and have had nothing short of an absolutely stellar experience every time. Ive been here as a couple, as a larger group, at the opening lull and when they were slammed. I wish I could give them 5 stars for each brunch we have had here. The food is delicious! We love the zucchini fritters and the beet breakfast sandwiches the most. The different sparkling wine cocktails always complement brunch nicely. This is a great brunch place for vegetarians. Lindsey has waited on us 3 of our 5 visits and is absolutely delightful. We love Commune and look forward to weekly brunch.

Very good place. Nice rustic yet elegant interior design with an organic farm in the backyard. Pretty cool vibe and its a very nice brunch environment overall, so it does feel like a community as the name suggests for the amount of brunch eaters in this place. Regular breakfast taste fine, the bread is quite good, but other than that nothing really special. Crepe with ham was quite salty, would like to have it more mild. Iced burned honey coffee was fantastic despite a little expensive (almost $6 for a Starbucks grande size), its pretty original and well-balanced. Service was pretty good too.

I normally hate doing reviews while Im still eating, but first time for everything. Had the pork belly sandwich yesterday, and the oyster sandwich today. Yes, we went twice. I dont like sandwiches and Im nowhere near a veggie person, but this is likely the first time Ill say that a sandwich felt like it just melts in your mouth, and I was so surprised i are the salad like a good boy without realizing it. The oyster sandwich, same thing. If you same old, same old stuff, you want it this way. S/O to Steven BTW. Gracious to a fault, and not an insignificant part of the reason why were back today.

Great place. The atmosphere was friendly and laid back. The food here is outstanding! Everything is fresh, local, and organic. I had the Sorghum Pancakes and French style eggs with roasted greens and potatoes. It was delicious! The Pancakes were interesting, and the hickory syrup complimented them. My girlfriend ordered the Pimento cheese & country ham melt but she substituted bacon for the ham; it was genius. Her sandwich was excellent! (Had to beg her to take a bite!) Overall the place was clean, comfortable, and I would highly recommend to anyone who cares about what they eat.

I had no idea it would be this good and so cool. Its like Asheville meets VA Beach. Everything is fresh and delicious! Amazing combinations you would never think of.... A latte sweetened with burnt honey! Croissant with Kale and Garlic! Best breakfast in the state of Virginia! Okay I came back a few weeks later and had the biscuits and gravy. I have to say I was blown away. Ive had biscuits and gravy and every dive in Virginia, North Carolina and even South Carolina and these rival the best!

If youre looking for FRESH and LOCAL fare, this is the place. In a resort town filled with generic breakfast buffets and all you can eat options, Commune shines with REAL FOOD. From ethically sourced proteins, to fresh organic greens grown just miles away at their farm, this is food you can feel good about. The coffee is expertly brewed (try the burnt honey or lavender latte), and the baked goods are worth the trip alone (the morning bun is not to be missed).
