My husband and I had been coming to this restaurant since December 2008. It was a freezing cold day and we walked into a warm building and were greeted warmly by a smiling woman, who we grew fond of. We still remember our first meal here. A General Tsos Chicken and Veggie/shrimp Lo; Mien combo. Delicious. Recently, our opinion of China Star has been lowered severely after a little episode that happened at the end of August. We had ordered a 5 item meal for myself, husband & our daughter to share. We took the bag and when we got home I found a long black hair actually sticking out of my white rice. It was very visible. I dont know how they missed it. I thought immediately to call them and I figured they would replace it immediately and probably even give our money back. My husband thought better of it, he said he would just take the food back and tell them. My husband got there and waited while they helped 2 other customers. When he told them the lady was telling my husband to speak quietly, so other customers did not hear it. He asked for a refund because we had been disgusted by this. They walked back to fiddle with the woks, and pack up some food in bags then when they came back to the front counter, simply told my husband there would be no refund. Shocked, my husband asked why, again pointing to the hair. They said they will offer a discount on the next visit, and offered another cup of rice to replace the rice with the hair sticking out. But we were already disgusted. My husband again asked for a refund which was again refused. Then they kept insisting to take the new cup of rice. When my husband got home, he said they refused a refund. Shocked, I called and asked to speak to the lady up front. Who is the manager. I am not writing her name here. But shes the lady with the 2 children. I asked her why she would not allow a refund and she just simply told me the rice is packaged separately beside the chicken in the dish, so the rice and the hair did not touch the chicken. Then she said I should be happy with the new rice. She said she was busy and hung up. She was not mean, and she was very calm but we never once received an apology. They never even bothered to call us and tell us they were sorry or offer us anything. I just left the food in the fridge and never ate it. My daughter enjoyed her noodles but us two parents were disgusted. This has ruined my opinion of China Star. We have decided to never eat here again after this little episode. This little episode has shown they care NOTHING about their customers or how they feel. They just want your money. It also puts into question if they pay very close attention when preparing their food. I am very disappointed that after going to a restaurant for so long, and having so many meals here that this had to happen. The right thing for them to do would be to have given us a refund and the meal free. They have lost our patronship. We will be finding a new chinese restaurant nearby.

So disappointed in China Star. Ive been coming here for at least 5 years. I came by on Mon Aug. 8 2016 but I had scatterbrained forgotten my wallet. My kid was with me and he had been causing a ruckus and yelling about getting some chinese food. I took him here. The lady behind the counter knows me immediately when I walk in the door and we shared a lot of laughs together. Especially when I would hang around a little bit and help her improve her english. What happened was I asked the lady if I could take our meal home, and I would come back the next time and give her the money then. Plus the money for the next meal. I thought she would immediately agree to it. I was wrong. She denied me even with my son standing there in front of the counter. It didnt matter to her she knew me and we were long time customers. She said if we wanted the meal I had to go home and get the wallet now, because she would never{ risk the customer never coming back { I told her she wouldnt have to worry because I am her long time customer and that it was an inconvenience to drive back home because it is a 20 minute drive. I even offered to give her my address to my house to show her I would not cheat her. I dont know why but she wouldnt give us the meal. We left the restaurant unhappy and with no meal. We went back to get my wallet and we went to another chinese restaurant. I know some people might say Im stupid why didnt I just turn around and get my wallet well you dont expect people to be so money hungry and distrusting. Especially when you have been going to a place for nearly 5 years. I also didnt know until I was looking for it on my person in the parking lot. It just goes to show how some people are. This is that ladies true colors. She cares more about making money than keeping her customers happy. It is very unfortunate and i am very disappointed also let down

China Star is the best chinese in Roanoke. I have eaten at China Wok and several others This place beats them all. China Stars general tsos is my favorite dish. just one small thing. if you come regularly they will get a little nosey. at least in my case.... I appreciate them remembering me and my family however i dont appreciate them asking me where is my wife and why i dont bring her to eat with me. I recently have come here by myself on about 3 or 4 occasions. once i got a meal to eat inside the restaurant, the other 3 times got take out. on the time i stayed to eat at the restaurant they asked me several times why does my wife not come with me and asked if we are having issues. Where is your wife? I have not seen her a long time! Where is she??? Please dont ask. A customer is a customer regardless how many people are in the party. Again i appreciate them remembering our family... but it would be nice if they wouldnt ask these kinds of questions.. there are no problems with my wife and I. i even put our picture on here. She just works late and usually doesnt have as much time as i do, especially during this period of time me being laid off and searching for work. it kind of makes me a little annoyed them asking these questions...... The kids in the restaurant are adorable and they sometimes play a little but they dont do what other reviewers have said. As far as i can tell they are well behaved children. Enjoy this place and they are by far the best chinese in Roanoke and possibly some of the surrounding areas.

We also live close to here, as another reviewer does. We have been coming here for a long time. The food is always great! Just one complaint. The last time I came, there was a little girl running around and a little boy sleeping on the chairs. The little girl spit on the floor and threw a crayon across the restaurant. I told the little girl she shouldnt be doing that, and she muttered the F word under her breath. I told her mother, the manager of the restaurant, and she just laughed about it! But I am still not sure if her mother actually understood what I was telling her, or if she thought I was joking. Her mother seems to have a very limited understanding of the english language, and only understands basic things like what customers want for dinner, or what they want for lunch. Other than that, her english is limited. When I was walking out of the restaurant with my takeout, the little girl was smiling and whispered the F word again in my direction. I waved my finger at her and she waved her finger back and said the F word for a 3rd time. Ugh. I hate to see kids doing that type of stuff. Cursing at customers.
