Wasnt so impressed with the general tsos chicken. Just so-so on my 3rd visit. What turned me off the most is how rude Mrs lynn was to me.She is the manager and owner who is always there. Ive only been here 3 times now to this restaurant. but i probably wont return for anymore visits. Mrs lynn has only seen me by myself, because i came in all three times by myself. On my recent visit i sat down for a lunch and was asked by her [ You usually eat lunch and dinner by yourself, right] I replied to her [ No i usually eat dinner with my wife ] and she looked at me with her eyes wide open as if she was surprised and said [ Oh really so youre married] As if i wasnt married or something. I replied [ just 16 years now ! ] She was still acting surprised and said [ really? ] Mrs lynn looked downright serious and to be quite honest, it was downright weird. ill put it that way. I guess she isnt too happy of a person? Or she just enjoys asking rude, strange questions??? I dont know what her deal is, but she needs to keep personal life out of her restaurant??? Anyway, her service was poor and i had a pretty uncomfortable feeling........ I mean , just because my wife isnt with me during the meal , doesnt mean I dont have one! I mean.... come on! Thats honestly the first time Ive ever had some one suggest i didnt have a wife!

The owner, Miss Liou, I think thats how you spell it... Or just Lynn for short... The older lady whom is always around, is not very likeable. From what I understand, she isnt liked by many people. She came off as a know-it-all to me and my family, and also the family that introduced us here from our church. Its also my understanding she will talk bad about nearly anyone/everyone if given the chance. And shes a very suspicious person to others. Some people have told us she just doesnt have the happiest life. Thats not for me to judge though, Any ways, Lets just get to the food...and the restaurant... Miss Liou knows how to run a restaurant, and keeps it clean. Theres no arguing that. Many, many people love the food they serve here. We are also lovers of the food, there is nothing you can say bad. Whatsoever. Nearly 100 percent satisfaction is guaranteed if you try their General Tsos chicken! There are also so many other good dishes, makes my mouth water a little! Everytime we have came here people are sitting at tables across from us and commenting how good the food is and how much taste everything has. And you will see Miss Liou hovering around, sometimes asking people how their meals are. I would definitely recommend this place, to anyone wanting some excellent food.

I can not fathom how this restaurant currently has a 4.3 star rating. Ill just chalk it up to the incredibly questionable taste Ive found exists in the populace of the Roanoke Valley. My family and I ordered takeout from Taipei two nights ago and found ourselves incredibly underwhelmed and disappointed. The sweet and sour chicken was mushy and, aside from tasting like pure sodium, incredibly flavorless. The lo mein was as if the restaurant had managed to turn pure table salt into a food item strongly resembling your standard lo mein dish found at most Chinese-American restaurants. The General Tsos chicken was just awful too. The General Tsos sauce was liquid and didnt have any of the spicy sweetness Ive grown to expect from the dish. It was almost as if the chicken was cooked in pure soy sauce. There was none of the flavor of ginger, garlic, or peppercorns one would expect. The sauce was also water thin, with approximately 1 1/2" of standing thin brown liquid left in the bottom of the takeout container once emptied. The white rice that accompanied our food was acceptable. Literally every other food item was terrible and essentially inedible. In closing, this was a $45 lesson in disappointment. We wont be patronizing this restaurant again.

Stopped by here 2 times. Wont be back. As other reviewers said, the lady "miss lynn" is disrespectful. rude. I came by the first time and chatted with her a little bit while getting a to-go order. She was lovely and delightful on the first meeting. 2nd visit she asked me why I came alone. I was put off by that but answered her question anyway. She said people shouldnt go places alone and then asked me why I was alone again. Even though I already answered her question. Strange lady. She can be nice but shes strange. The food was good but good service goes a long way. After the way she asked me those questions I was just completely turned off to her restaurant. I dont think this lady realizes how she comes off to people. if she did she wouldnt ask questions and make things so uncomfortable. I actually felt insulted when I left. But she would never have been able to pick up on those feelings. I thought it was just me at first then I discovered other people said they had similar exchanges with this lady. Anyway, I suggest going to another restaurant. You can find food just as good at other restaurants in Roanoke and in the surrounding areas.

My favorite chinese cuisine in the valley – since day-one and STILL the reigning champ in my book. The food is always fresh and perfectly done, and the taste is not to be forgotten. The menu is comfortably priced and offers an excellent variety of traditional chinese favorites. The owner/manager, Lin, is not a fake-happy person and has a memory that is VERY impressive (customer names & favorite dishes), and her hubby in the kitchen takes great pride in his dishes – that becomes obvious as soon as you taste the food. Sometimes you just never know where youll find the gems in life - but THIS is one of them! Formerly Empire Wok, Tai Pei is similar to what was once a close neighbor Krispy Kreme – people WILL go out of their way to get THAT food experience. Try it once - youll be back, and Lin will likely remember you and any topics you discussed with her perviously.

Glad I found this place on my most recent trip over to roanoke. Pretty good food. But the little older lady, i presume is the owner, who was walking around the place asking everyone how was their food..... She asked me a weird question and disrespected me. She asked “So why are you eating by yourself?“ I said I was working, in roanoke on business. She replied to me “Oh really?“ in a kind of *i dont believe you* tone.... then she rolled her eyes at me. It made me feel really uncomfortable. When I left, she called me sweet heart and said “Next time bring someone with you“ That was just weird, and she was talking like she was talking to a child. Why did she feel the need to say that to a 1st time customer, in such a manner?

I guess some people like Taipei but I didnt. Chicken was way too salty. Felt bad throwing my plate away but I couldnt eat it. Miss Lin also was very VERY strange. More than just a little strange as other reviewers said. She asks some really weird questions and her mannerisms are weird too. One of her questions to me was why I had my mother with me, instead of my girlfriend or wife. Then she said most people dont take their mother out with them. At 63 and my mother being 91, I am very lucky to have her. I love taking her places and I dont have to go everywhere with my wife. It was just really weird and i dont understand why it even mattered to Miss Lin. It was very uncomfortable. I am definitely NOT coming back.
