I have been to this location twice since it has opened. The first time was the Friday night of their opening week. There was a long line and we waited 40 minutes until nearly closing time to get to the front. They did not have any of the kinds of donuts we wanted that they advertise as having all the time. Given that this was opening week that could be understandable. We got 6 other donuts. They were decent. We went back a couple weeks later at 1 p.m. on a Saturday. After a 10 minute wait we got to the front. The reason we went was to get some maple bacon donuts. They did not have any! It has to be their most popular donut and they didnt have any left less than half way through the day. We walked out without buying any. They advertise that they always have maple bacon donuts but they dont make enough to ever have them in stock. The setup of the store could not be worse. One display case on the right side that causes the line to cross in front of the door. Nothing is labeled, which slows everything down having to have an employee explain every donut. They also do a terrible job of segregating donuts with potential allergens from other kinds, like coconut. Having a long wait allowed me to observe employees moving donuts with these toppings from rack to rack next to lots of other kinds of donuts. These kinds should be separated and not ever placed with non-allergen donuts. Someone could end up in the hospital. I give the store 2 stars because the employees are nice and the donuts they had in stock were good.

Just went to Sugar Shack and it is the first week it has been opened in Midlothian. Walking in the first thing you ntoice is that there is not enough doughnut space. The bulk of the whole horizontal space is coffee and no one, if anyone, was buying coffee. Obviously, doughnuts are the draw here. Also, no labels or listing of the doughnut flavors offered for the day! They have to fix that-- some customers with children or older in age were asking for review of the doughnuts multiple times and the line was out the door. They really need to rethink this new location and tweek the space to serve the customers better. The doughnuts looked fantastic and it is a very fun buy-- who wouldnt like a doughnut with candied bacon on it???? Glad to have this gourmet option in the Southside!

So 4 stars because havent actually eaten the donuts yet ;-). Staff was informed when picking out donuts. Space wise I think the rest of the reviewers are being too harsh. For the space they could do a but better but its popular and retooling the counter and display setup would only make it so efficient. Not Noteworthy. My criticism is the frontage is horrible! Went at 7at night which is fantastic for all the donuts available but the outside is so dark I drove right by at first. The little tiny bulbs they have under the eaves do nothing to light the front up and the sign by the road is not lit. So couldnt even tell with the teeny tiny neon open sign blinking that they were open from the other side of the road. Normally fantastic donuts though!

OK, I hate giving a good place a bad rating, but I am frustrated over product availability. Today was my third visit over the past several months (Since I live Roanoke I only get there once or so per month). I purchased nothing! Wanted cinnamon buns but for the third consecutive time none were available. Asked for Tale Tell dark coffee, no longer available. I am not sure I will go back. I know it will not hurt SS, but it does hurt me not having their cinnamon buns. Business model seems to be "you can have what we offer, but not what you want." Sorry.

Hands down best doughnuts in Richmond! Firstly, the staff there is so helpful and friendly. David and his coworker hooked me up. I really appreciate them going above and beyond to make my and my coworkers day. Their doughnuts are out of this world good and the flavor selection they have is unbeatable. Also, even though its not at this location I really appreciate that the company is accommodating to different diets and makes vegan and gluten free donuts at some stores. Way to go Sugar Shack!

I came to sugar shack today... all I can say is incredible. The donuts were amazing, my whole family was very happy with the donuts and coffee and hot chocolate. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and when they didnt have the donuts in the case we were looking for, the staff member behind the counter went out of her way to go into the back and ice the donuts and make them for us. I was incredibly pleased with this visit and I will be happy to return as a regular customer.

We visited this location just a few days ago and we had a great experience. The staff is super nice and they even made me a coffee doughnut when I inquired if they have anything coffee flavor. Thank you!!!! My only recommendation, would be to have seating area inside, just like the Parham location, to grab a coffee and possibly get even more doughnuts. Our favorite is salted caramel. I wasnt a fan of the with cream inside (cant remember the name, boston cream?).

Has some interesting doughnut options, and they have always been tasty. Outside of a few standard flavors, the variety of doughnuts changes constantly, so have a backup option in mind when you go. Their cozy/casual environment is nice during low traffic, but it quickly descends into chaos if they get a sudden surge of customers (fear the childrens soccer teams!) Setting up some theater-style line barriers may help with this.

Love Sugar Shack! Great simple glazed doughnuts but also awesome specialty doughnuts that are never the same. This location is cool as well, as they left some of the older features of the building untouched but with a nice modern feel inside. Not much seating inside, but there is plenty of parking. Wont break the bank either, like some other specialty sweets places.

Good variety. Many original flavors. Consistent quality of both flavor, texture and freshness. I like that they color their red velvet with beet juice instead of food coloring. Downside is that I cant go there and expect to get a certain doughnut no matter how much Im craving it since it is a constant rotation of bakers choice.

very crowded location. went for the gluten free donut truck. we love the option. only complaint was when you buy so many donuts you get points. we have not been able to use our rewards for the gluten free truck. have been told we have to go inside. wish it was available across the board because we dont eat regular donuts.

delicious and unique donut flavors, and the dough is the perfect texture and consistency every time. the interior is fun and shabby-chic. only downside is you have to ask about every flavor because theres no signs and they vary constantly. but the employees are friendly and happy to answer questions.

The cult following baffles me a bit. The donuts are interesting but overrated. The registers slow the checkout process down as people try to figure out the (intentionally) confusing tip screen. This creates a line that doesnt have anywhere to go. The store location and layout are horrible.
