The NoCo neighborhood is really starting to come into its own and the Starving Artist Cafe is a nice addition. I had the Mary Cassatt for lunch and give it 5 stars as far as a lunch-time sandwich goes. Basically its a BLT but the roasted red pepper, mozz and pesto mayo - I could have eaten another one it was so good. The spot was much bigger on the inside than I had imagined too and word is they are going to start being open for dinner. Plus, they serve breakfast all day - extra points for breakfast all day.

The atmosphere was trendy with a nice bar and television, but the staff was more distant than friendly, but that may have been my perception since there were several groups at tables discussing business ventures and not requiring as much attention. Menu items were appealing and my eggs with goat cheese and avocado was delicious. The server greets everyone with a mason jar of ice water and theres ample seating to accommodate small groups as well as seating on the patio out front.

The Matisse sandwich was stellar and the broccoli and gouda soup was a touch too salty, but delicious nonetheless. The staff is awesome, as is the atmosphere, but Im rather upset that I paid $5 for a milkshake that was composed of ice, milk, and chocolate syrup. I think the proper name for that would be a chocolate milk smoothie. I appreciate them saving me the fat content and calories, but it wasnt a $5 drink :/

Ive had different experiences everytime Ive gone here. Sometimes the espresso is on point, sometimes its not. Most recently, my drink came out looking and tasting like a strong cup of coffee rather than a double espresso. All this being said, Id never complain about my experience here, because whatever they bring me always tastes great in its own right.

We stopped for a light lunch while visiting the Chrysler Museum, and boy were we glad. The courteous host seated us at a table for two, upon which we were delighted to find real pewter silverware and stylish cloth napkins. We drank a few cups of wonderful coffee while deciding (I asked-it was Tidewater Brewing coffee).

Great local spot. The food here is very good. Absolutely love the Gouda Mac & Cheese. They have the best cold brew coffee in all of Hampton Roads. I have yet to have anything here I didnt enjoy. The owners and staff are very friendly and inviting. The muffins are delicious (nice and moist).

While we are locals, regrettably, we have only begun to enjoy the incredible food, cozy atmosphere and wonderful service from the entire Staff at the Starving Artist. We are lucky to live close enough to walk and hope others will check the Café out by foot or car soon. See you there!

One of my favorites spots for an iced vanilla latte and the now classic WOMLETTE (yes - omelette prepared in a waffle iron). Fresh food made to order. Great space for rotating local art! Also has local music, painting parties, and super staff and owners!!

Tiny place with a nice vibe. Very friendly and welcoming staff! Eggs Benedict was a little too salty for me, but good. Was able to get almond milk in my latte which was nice. Free wifI was also nice as I was there to get some work done.

Food was good, but it took forever. Waited a good 45 minutes for our food after we ordered. Wasnt very filling either. Its a nice hangout spot, but if youre looking for a square meal theres a Cogans Pizza across the street.

This coffee house was awesome! Cozy, convenient, and it has lots of character. Their internet was fast and the coffee was good. I had the "Womelet" and it was perfect - not too filling but very satisfying.

Cute little cafe featuring a solid brunch selection. Food was good, vibes were solid, and service was friendly. I have not been there for dinner so can not comment on that.

This is a little slice of Nashville-esque local foodie enjoyment; excellent food (we had brunch), excellent service, and interesting art on the walls.

“Their fries were really good and well-seasoned, and I spotted chili fries that I will most definitely try next time (along with the custard shake).”
