So far, I have only been there once, with my family. It was pretty expensive, but honestly, for the quality of food (which is AMAZING), the cleanliness of the establishment and the attentiveness and friendliness of the knowledgeable staff its pretty much worth it. It is more of a $$$ than a $$ rating, but you get what you pay for. I do wish the prices were a little lower, but with everything else being so great, its not even enough of a draw back to merit giving it less than 5 stars. The staff knew about their dishes and were very thorough in giving details and willing to answer question. They were also personable and friendly without being overbearing or disruptive. The price makes it more of a "special occasions" restaurant for me, but I highly recommend it. They have a good selection of wine (We only tried a pinot noir, but it was very good). My family and I tried various soups, salads, entrees and deserts and everything we ordered was superb. The deserts are decadent and fabulous. I would go there just to get the deserts.

If you are undecided about which restaurant to select within 15 miles of Portsmouth you will make the right choice by selecting Cafe Europa. I hosted a dinner for eight customers two weeks ago at the restaurant and was treated to one of the best culinary experiences in 35 years of travel domestically and abroad. French born owners, Michael (chef) and his wife Veronique we learned opened the restaurant 25 years ago. Every aspect of meal was perfect from the appetizers and wine to the selection of fine french deserts. In terms of value, we actually thought the bill was added incorrectly (too low). We had Veronique double-check which she did and of course it was correct. I personally think Cafe Europa offers a superb Product at a very reasonable price.

Had a nice quit dinner here last night. The atmosphere was cozy.the service was amazing. The food was very upscale and gourmet. I would suggest a dress or a collared shirt as I felt a bit under dressed in shorts and a button up shirt. The price was somewhat more reasonable than one would expect for a dinner of this caliber. There is quite a bit of art on display throughout the restaurant which really enhances the experience. For this reason I would say the atmosphere is what I enjoyed most about this hidden little gem nestled behind an understated facade in downtown Portsmouth.

Cafe Europa is a fine restaurant, tastefully appointed and attractive in ambiance. The wait staff is very attentive and friendly, makes us feel comfortable there. So far, the food we tried are excellent and have never been disappointed. We used to love "Painted Lady" in Norfolk. Finally, we are ready to give our endorsement and say, Cafe Europa has become our favorite restaurant that we can depend on for our night out for great food and service.

Wonderful! We were walking by and decided to wander in and have coffee and dessert. It was expensive but very good quality and definitely worth it. My husband had a wonderful bread pudding and I a slice of cake. With two cups of coffee it cost 35$....so for a whole meal I would imagine you would drop a bit of cash. Only complaint is the.restaurant smelled of fish and that was a bit off putting.

Mediocre and overpriced. Ive been to many establishments calling themselves "fine dining" in this area, and this is not one of them. The food is uninteresting and uninspired, and unfortunately it is priced way above what its worth. The wait staff, far from being attentive, was overbearing, obnoxious, and dramatic. If you want a good meal and a good experience, try somewhere else.

Very old fashion, in a fussy grandmother way, but aside from that staff is very inattentive. Food was okay, but hardly worth the 45 minute wait. And portion size was very small. Waiter never came to check on us after we were served. Our drinks were never refilled, and we even had to walk up to the front to get our check.

Went here for desserts and coffee. Was a delight! Our waiter was exceptional and the owner came and chatted with us after dinner. Definitely a place to dress up to, felt very underdressed in jeans. But dont let that stop you! And judging from the party behind us, their entrees are amazing as well. Definitely going back.

This is our favorite restaurant. We have yet to have a bad experience in two years that we have frequented it regularly. We have spent four weeks on trips to France during that period and we would place the Cafe Europa at the top of the list which included some renowned restaurants. Strongly recommended.

Came for coffee and dessert. Great interesting choices and mine was awesome. The bad reviews on here some more like from the cafe Europa in North Carolina. That place, the service was inattentive and had to flag down for water refills. These two are completely different in style of dining.

Now this is a memorable dining experience. Magnificent food, professional service, good wine list. The prices are on the high side, and the menu could be more extensive, but everything else is simply superb. Probably the best restaurant in terms of sheer quality in this area.

One of the best dining experiences Ive had in a very long. Quiet, classy, old-fashioned ambience, absolutely delicious food, and friendly, knowledgeable staff who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and made sure we enjoyed our meal.

This is a fun place with delicious food. There is so much to look at while youre eating. Everything you see, you can buy. Once you find it, you will enjoy it. GPS will get you there. Great place to go and have lunch.

Truly no better upscale food in the 757. Decor is definitely dated, but the quality of food and service is unmatched. Dress up and enjoy the exquisite dining in a very romantic setting

Good food and ambience, but nothing bold. Continental is a better description than Mediterranean. The staff is attentive.
