Amazing restaurant in an amazing location/area. I went here with a friend on a Saturday night and the environment and restaurant were absolutely amazing. The food prices are affordable considering what the place looked like. It is a very upscale type restaurant with dim interior lighting, which is great for a date with your special someone. Has a great bar and some good drinks with typical prices. Parking lot is a little confusing as there is not dedicated parking lot this restaurant and customers are expected to park on the street or the (free) parking garage. The restaurant sits on the perimeter of the Newport News City Center pond, which means that the outdoor seating here offers really good views. 4 Stars because it seems like the waitress did not care to work that day. Never refilled the drinks, napkins, or even brought silverware - my friend and I had to ask another waitress for silverware. With better service, I will edit and change this review to 5 Stars.

Last night I had the pleasure along with 10 other beautiful ladies of celebrating a very special and close girlfriends 44th birthday. The food and atmosphere was great! Sadly to say the service from our waiter and waitress was horrible. We all felt forgotten... It took the birthday girl to say something, because none of us wanted to ruin the night for her. We were just going to make the best of it. Unfortunately the waiter gave her excuses instead of apologizing or offering to resolve the issue. Our party of 11 came to the conclusion... that since the servers knew that there would automatically be a gratuity added for a large party, they didnt have to give us good service. I may consider going back only because my oysters and shrimp were delicious....

Have been to the Cove several times, including the one that used to be in Williamsburg. If youre looking for a great meal and good drinks you wont be disappointed. The place is well done, the staff is very good, and the foods great. Love the fresh potato chip dip App with ranch, the pickles and spicy dipping sauce are very good too. They have a pretty good burger if youre there for lunch. The Shrimp & Grits is really good, as is the grilled Flank Steak. I highly recommend the Cove for lunch or dinner, even group functions. Actually going there with a large group in a few weeks.

Eating here on a nice day feels a lot like being on vacation. The view outside is great, the staff friendly, and the decor is a little tropical. The food is good, as are the portions. However, it is what I think of as "us foods good." Nothing we had really stood out as special or necessarily made there. It is one of the more expensive lunches I have done in the area, with appetizer, 2 meals, and a beer costing almost $60 including a good tip. Our total time there for the meal was an hour, but we are slowly because we were enjoying being there.

Am I being PUNKED?? ARE WE TALKING ABOUT THE SAME RESTAURANT?? Walked in stood in front entrance waiting to be acknowledged, bartender never looked up and I knew that he saw me!!! A couple of a different race came in behind me and the bartender greeted them with almost open arms and never looked my way. No I was not rude nor was I on the phone. This was a very humiliating experience with all that is going on in todays society. I turned around and left out very ticked off!! I wouldnt eat here if my life depended on it. Still stuck in time!!

Terrible bouncers and staff. Not welcoming at the door whatsoever, patted down at the door for weapons, sent to the waitress to be seated who was playing on her phone and twisting her hair. After interrupting her mobile experience, she tells me its 20$ to enter....Was there at 115 AM! Charge someone 20$ for 15 minutes of meagerly made, overpriced drinks? Miserable place that obviously has no idea how to value customers. City center is slipping allowing them to stay in business. ✌

It is "Restaurant Week" in Newport News and The Cove is participating. We went for lunch. We ordered an entree from the "Restaurant Week" special. The chef forgot to cook the bacon which was an advertised ingredient on the bacon cheeseburger. At least the chef remembered the burger, although it lacked seasoning and flavor. The waitress was very pleasant and attentive, thus the two stars in lieu of zero stars.

This was my second visit (first for dinner) and it was just as amazing as my first visit (farewell lunch for fellow Soldier). The atmosphere is great and the food good on the eyes, tongue and belly... The Server was great and our order arrived fast and hot. I have and will continue to recommend this establishment to friends and family.

My experience at The cove Tavern in Newport news was amazing, my waitress was so friendly and pleasant, talked to my husband and myself, our portions of food were very good, my daughter got a kids meal and it was shrimp. The shrimp were real shrimp not minced shrimp. I give The Cove 5 stars, my family and I have a new favorite spot.

Went here to celebrate my dads 60th birthday, I was able to make a reservation for 11 the same day, which happened to be a Friday night.Once we arrived we were seated right away, our waitress was wonderful, service was fast and the food was delicious! They even allowed us to bring in our own cake. I will definitely be returning.

My husband brought me here for my birthday, after a couple of days of "is time from the kids." The food tastes great and the waiter...he was absolutely awesome! I absolutely loved the she-crab soup. Well be going there again....its a little costly, but worth it, to me.

Excellent! Sat out on the patio for a birthday dinner and everyone enjoyed their food. The Crispy California Salad was delicious. I only ordered a half salad and it was plenty! Friendly and pleasant service, relaxing atmosphere, and an extensive menu selection!

The bartender that night was awful.. The drinks we ordered, which were standard bar drinks, were horrid.. We sent them back and had water. On the other had the food we had, appetizer sampler, was ok but nothing to write home about.
