Weve lived in the area for approximately two years now and loved this place! However, it has slowly and steadily deteriorated and as of last Tuesday, were no longer going to consider it. Our last three attempts eating here has been a major disappointment. Each time our food was either served raw (hamburgers) or ice-cold fries that tasted like theyd been rescued from the garbage. This place used to be busy and used to have food that was good, hot and enjoyable. What happened???? To be even more maddening, I specifically asked the waiter to please ask the Chef to cook a "fresh burger" from start to finish please -- trying to give the kitchen a fair shot at getting it right. Our food arrives and my sons burger was raw and cold, my burger was rare with cold tots, my daughters chicken strips were cold but my wifes burger was excellent! There was no more than 25 people in the restaurant on a Tuesday night around 7:30pm. There is no excuse for this. Upon informing our server (super nice) that our food had issues, he took them off of our bill. You could see the interaction between himself and the Manager, as if it was a frequent issue. The Manager threw his hands up in the air but never stopped by to ask us about our experience or to offer a replacement instead of taking of our bill. We were there to EAT for crying out loud! Anyone should be able to make a burger....amazing!!! Sorry Louie: you know the old saying -- "three strikes and your out!" Somebody needs to start caring about their food again! What a major disappointment!!!

We discover Bar Louie after getting impatient with the lunch service and food at BWWs. (If you have been there, you know what I mean!) Louies had just opened, so we suffered through the recently open restaurant pains; not enough servers for the crowd, cant find the wine in the wine cellar, sharing a bottle of ketchup with two or more other tables because no one had purchased sufficient condiments, and the kitchen crew was newly assembled, so the food quality could only get better. But today we went there with our kids home from college -- three adults and three underage college kids. We went through a bottle of wine talking and eating. We order a second even though we knew we could finish it, but also know that Virginia state law allows and recommends bagging the partial bottle and taking it home. NO! Bar Louies policy forbids anyone taking a partial bottle out of their restaurant. Nice waitress, so I ask to speak to the restaurant manager. The kitchen manager comes out, not the restaurant manager, (looked young enough that I would have carded him if he order cool aid.) Told us that regardless of Virginia state law they FORBID anyone from taking alcoholic beverage from their premises. Its their policy. There are better places in the area. Gave it two stars because of the helpful waitress, but they need to hire adult managers and understand state law.

If you love waiting for over two hours for your food and getting pushed off by two waitress, boy is this the place for you!~ should have known how great this place was going to be considering how we walked in with no one to greet and seat us but took forever for our waitress to find our table to tell us shell be right back. I had similar experience at this exact bar louie a couple months ago, I thought, let me give them another shot maybe theyve improved. Boy was I wrong, If your looking for poor service, excuses, and a perfect example of poor management and bad teamwork among the staff, LOOK NO MORE! I could go on about how long we waited for "our" waitress to finish up catching up with her friends at the bar, or how she forgot to put in our order TWICE, maybe the sea of excuses that was give to the table an hour and a half in of waiting for the appetizers.. you know that thing that comes out before the main course?...or perhaps how the manager didnt offer anyother resolution to the situation after asking for her THREE times. Im sure you could careless about it but not as much as bar louie ( gainesville)cares about their customer service, but theyre fine giving underaged prom kids their drinks without carding them. But overall, i give this place five starts for the worst experience Ive ever had.

Simply terrible. Listen it may look fun and be close but the food is mediocre and drinks expensive which would be doable IF the services was not so horrible. I have been 3 times to try and give a chance since Im local but its aweful! The bartenders dont care about you at all just so rude. The final straw was my friend and I wanted to have some drinks and watch a certain NCAA game. We sat at the end of the bar since it was empty no people and we asked the bartender to change the channel to the game we wanted. He told us the games are over there pointing to the side bar were tons of people where. I said you mean you wont change this single tv to the game we would like so we can sit in an area that literally has no one else?!? He responded rudley the games are over there. Not sure if its a women thing both of us being female. Its not even like he said sorry I am not allowed to change or I cant change he just said "the games are over there" he was then super rude the rest of the time getting us drinks and food. I will never come back and if your looking for a good place to grab a drink with a friend do not go here trust me it will seem like a good idea but you will only be disappointed in the end.

It didnt occur to me how above and beyond their manager Joe went for us last week until I recently visited another restaurant. We were on the patio last Thursday night, it was a little cold so we asked our server to turn on the heater for us. She didnt know how but as a manager approached her to say goodnight, he was on his way out, she asked him to turn one on for us. He dropped his bag and keys and tried to get the heater to light. Well turns out, since it was so freakishly hot the 4 days before he never went to get new propane. He fiddled with it and checked other heaters for an extra propane tank to hook up for us, but to no avail. Now in most cases this would have been the end of it. He tried, were out of luck, but they made the effort. Good enough for me. But no, this young man actually grabbed two propane tanks, took them to the store and got them filled for us so we could enjoy our drinks on the patio, taking almost another 45 minutes out of his day when he was already literally on his way out the door. Me and my husband both really appreciate the trouble you went through for us and well definitely be back to see you soon!

Tonight my wife and I decided to go out to eat. We prefer to sit at the bar so we dont have to wait for a table. Well all the bars in the square, bJs, uncle Julios, and Firebirds were all packed except for this one, and now I know why. The drinks are way overpriced the services sucks and the ticket times must be 25 min or more. I usually dont write reviews and I usually always tip 20% or better no matter how bad the services is. This is the first time in five years Ive left a one dollar tip and the first time EVER,my wife HAS EVER agreed with me about it. four drinks, calamari, bacon sandwich, and a hamburger $78, oh and it took over an hour and a half to get all that and then I had to scream across the bar for the check. I eat at this square 6 to 10 times a month. bar Louie will never see my business again. Please dont waste your money theres a lot better food and a lot better service and way cheaper prices within 100 yards of this restaurant
