Zero stars. We ordered $100 worth of food for take away, to feature as the main culinary entree for a Fathers Day celebration. We placed the order online, before traveling over an hour to Fredericksburg, only to find that when we arrived at the designated pick-up time, our order had been completely neglected. As lamentable as this oversight was, the customer service that followed was downright deplorable. After an initial period of confusion during which the young woman out front admitted the mistake, a manager decided to lie to us without shame, saying first "You have to understand, were busy," only to follow that with the ridiculous suggestion that they just wanted to make everything fresh, which was the real reason everyone had overlooked our order for hours. As they clearly scrambled to start cooking the large order on the fly, the manager lied that it was already finished, except for the breads. When we declined to be persuaded by this obvious lie, he rudely reverted to the "were busy" excuse, and unapologetically told us, basically, to take it or leave it. We left it. We have eaten at Taj before, and had enjoyed the food, but this was not the first time the service was atrocious; it was just the worst time (and last time). Their shameful indifference to the experience of their customers was shocking . . . rather than trying to make it right, after ruining an important event for a frequent customer, they chose to not care in the least about the damage they had done. If you want to pay lots of money to be treated with contempt, Taj is the place for you.

This place is REALLY good. I like indian food and have been to a lot of both north and south indian restaurants and this is among the best Ive been to. Their buffet had very good selections, staff was nice, service was good, atmosphere is very nice, they make their naan fresh and bring it to the table as needed - all around good. My wife doesnt like indian food as well as I do, so we ordered pakora and chilli chicken for her as I knew she liked those. But after trying a few of the selections I had from the buffet she agreed that even she would likely get that next time to sample the different items as they were even to her taste. I particularly liked the Chicken Methi which I hadnt had before, thought it had an especially good marsala. There was also a channa dish that was the best of its kind Id ever had. I only wish they would have offered Dosas, but thats just whining - this is easily the best indian restaurant Ive found in Fredericksburg and would definitely recommend it.

Never cater from TAJ! We had 140 guests, still ordered 150 plates, they charged for all 150 people and brought way less food! appetizers were short, naan was short, desert was short, salted lassi was short! and they are blaming people ate too much! they DO NOT have respect for customer and started blaming our guests stating they ate a lot! really TAJ? when my wife went to pay them they NEVER agreed that food was short and like I said they started blaming US and our guests! I ordered 10 more people food and they only bought food for 125 people! even owner said they bought 120 naans and said no one can eat whole naan! seriously? what if I had paid for 125 and had 150 people guessing none of my guests will eat that much? thats NOT the logic you apply when you cater! you lost lot many customers TAJ!

A year ago we loved this place. The food was fresh and delicious every time. Recently, however, we were disappointed. Not sure if its a new chef or perhaps the head chefs night off...? The tandoori was very dry and not properly marinated. Seemed as if we were served leftovers from the lunch buffet. Also the atmosphere was not so relaxing...loud pop music from the tv and speakers made it difficult to have a conversation. Wait staff was overly attentive...checking us every 5 minutes. Then once we finished they were nowhere to be found. We left thinking it was probably our last visit Taj... :-(

When I gather with my best friends of the last 25 years ... we always try and include one Indian meal - our fav! After ordering $90 worth of take out ... we were pretty disappointed in the amount of food we received. The entrees were quite small and only ok tasting. Chicken was a bit rubbery and they only gave us one plastic container of the sauces that normally we like to add generously to our meal. With a $90 bill (and $15 tip) we expected a more and better tasting food.

We went to this restaurant with whole family. We saw its rating on line and thought "lets try it". Food was not bad. It was not great either. Very pricey. One thing I did not like about this restaurant is that they charge $3.99 for pickles. That is ridiculous. I have been to so many Indian restaurant, this is the first one that did it. I drove 25 miles to get there. I dont think I will visit them again.

Very courtious staff. Wonderful buffet. Clean and tastefully decorated. We have been going and bringing family there for about a year and we love trying food from different cultures, then finding the best of the best of that kind of food. TAJ in Fredericksburg has it!!! Prices were reasonable considering the high quality of both the food and the spices used. ***suggestion... try a variety of the breads!

This place used to be really good. The service was good the food was excellent. After a few bad trips here I quit going. Today I decided to give them another chance. Maybe the service and food made an improvement? ?? Not the case. 3 stars is generous. I would say more like 2.5 stars. The service was mediocre. The food a little less so. All of the dishes were over salted.

The food is really great. Very deep in flavor. Unfortunately the service was terrible. The waitresses ignored our table for 15 minutes. When they did come to take out order they were quite rude. The manager was nice and attentive but I think he should seriously reconsider his hires. I think this will be a nice place for carry out until the service improves.

Went in for the lunch buffet because we had a buy one, get one coupon. So glad we tried it! Food was delicious! Friendly staff & clean. Price for buffet was $11...very reasonable. The butter chicken was amazing, & there were some little purple sweet cinnaminy balls that I would have stuffed in my purse if I could haha... Yum! Will definitely go back.

Ill grant that the food was good albeit on the pricy side. What makes me say I will never and I mean NEVER go back is that they have a posting on the wall that says they certify that they submit to SHARIA LAW in the way the meat is butchered. I will never support an establishment that openly admits to submission to Sharia!!!!!
