I admit, I was a bit skeptical at the thought of "Indian BBQ." But last night after trying out Choolaah, Im definitely a fan! Choolaah is located right next to the Angelika movie theater and its a large, open space that is minimalist and bright. The concept aligns with Chipotle, Cava Grill, ShopHouse, etc. For their tandoor BBQ bowls, you pick your rice, protein (chicken, lamb, salmon, paneer cheese, veggie croquette, or tofu and veggies), naan (regular or wheat), and toppings (tikka masala, chickpea masala, black lentil, yellow lentil, or eggie masala). If you dont want a BBQ bowl, they also serve Indian classics like chicken biryani, chicken tikka masala, lamb tikka masala, masala bowl with chickpea and rice, and more. For those fulfilling their New Years resolutions, they have salads too, everything from choolaah salad to a simple chopped salad. And if you prefer something akin to a burrito, they have tandoori wraps. Want more? They have street snacks like samosas and pav bhaji and desserts like malai and mango kulfi. I ordered a BBQ bowl with rice, tofu and veggies, and tikka masala. All for $9.99. The food was really good. I liked the tofu and veggies, and it was filling! I tried some of the chicken too, and its tender and perfectly cooked. The tikka masala was nearly as good as some of the higher-end Indian restaurants Ive been to. Im definitely adding Choolaah into my regular dinner rotation. Check them out!

Waste of Money... I ordered the BBQ Meal for $8.99 all I got was 3 Lamb Meat Balls a bowl full of rice some Tikka Masala(which was watered down) and some Naan. Soft drink was $2 more which is standard in NOVA. They dont give you anymore vegetables, but they do have a wrap or salad option. They claimed the meat balls were spicy, but the were more bland than anything. The sauce bar in the middle is pretty good. Just a little pissed for what I got is 3 meat balls and a bowl of rice. I guess the rent in that space is over $7000 a month they have to make up for it some how. It is a beautiful space they have. Save your money, go next door to Cava, Chipolte, Nandos, or something else youll get more for your money.

We visited at 11:30 for an early lunch. The restaurant is nice, clean (as it had just opened) and well lit. They were out of the paneer so I requested the veggie croquettes. In general, I found the food to be mild to blank in flavor. The additional sauces were okay, but felt imbalanced; too much sugar in the apple, too much mint in the yogurt mint. I wish the plates and bowls were compostable or at least recyclable. The handwashing station is cute. I used it. I will definitely go back and try some other things. If you LOVE American restaurant Indian food, you may find it bland. For quick Indian it might delight.

It was really good! Order at a cash register and pick up at the counter. The staff was also very knowledgeable and helpful in describing some food options. The Chicken BBQ (with rice, naan, and Tikka Masala) was delicious and was a lot of food. For the BBQ meal, everything was served on a dish seperately for you to combine vs. getting everything together in the Specialty Tikka Masala (no naan on the specialty bowl). For a more traditional Tikka Masala flavor use one of the optional spicy sauces in it. Definitely will be returning! Also, the hand washing station was awesome.

This was my first time at any kind of Indian restaurant and I was very pleased with my experience. The interior decoration is spacious, modern and trendy. It is probably the most modern restaurant decor out of all the ones in entire Mosaic District. I was greeted by a manager during my visit and after explaining that I am new to Indian cuisine, he helped walk me through the menu in a way that I could understand. I ordered a Chicken BBQ plate with mango lassi. It was all delicious! I am planning on returning and spreading my wonderful experience to others.

This was my first time in today. Choolaah was giving free bbq meals to Mosaic employees! I had to come in and try it, and I am so happy I did. Even though I did get my meal for free, the price isnt too bad for the quantity and quality of food youre getting. Richard, who placed my order, was super helpful with helping me choose different parts of my meal. The Lamb Meatballs were seasoned to perfection and so juicy and tender! Im totally going back and have already recommended this place to my family and will to my friends!

Food was great. Meat was tender and naan was made fresh. The cleanliness and open-floor plan really made for a great experience. Customer service was superb. My initial order was placed and 30 minutes later I still hadnt received it. I checked on the status, the manager profusely apologized, gave me complimentary samosas and made my meal within 2 minutes. He then proceeded to refund me for the meal and my drink. They stress customer service and back it up with a great meal and experience. I am actually going back tonight.

Great Indian food, street food (ok, US street food) prices in a modern setting. They do salt and sweet lassi, and have kulfi in traditional style, good mix of dhal (the chickpea dhal is really nice as well as the more usual yellow split-pea). Electric Tandoor cooks everything fresh. Beers and soft drinks. Good for kids, small groups, casual dining. Theyve apparently been in Cleveland for a while and branched out here, well worth a visit if youre nearby. Good vegetarian options.

As experimental cuisine lovers and at home chefs ourselves, we are regulars at Choolah and hence it is a must try!!! Choolah is a avante-garde contemporary take on an ancient tradition. Succulent meat and soft and crispy whole wheat Roti made right at the moment for your hungry eyes. The assortment of sauces, drinks, dessert and good meal portions is added bonus. Thomas, thanks for your hospitality, letting us try the Veggie Biryani and also accepting our constructive feedback.

An interesting concept, well executed. Everything is fresh, inexpensive, and served quickly in a modern and simple space. The flavors seem authentic, but less intense than I am used to. Is it watered down for the mainstream American market? No matter. Its all good. Lots of seating, but the friendly staff was having trouble keeping it all clean.

Unfortunately food was just ok...I ordered paneer tikka masala and asked for it to be spicy and was told only comes mild. They do offer a variety of spicy sauces you can self add to your dish but its not the same as the paneer being cooked in spices. No one in my family enjoyed their meal.
