Down to the basics. Amma has great traditional South Indian food that reminds me of food back home. As a south Indian myself, I rarely eat out at Indian Restaurants, but Amma is definitely an exception. They make amazing dosa in many varieties. My favorite is the Rava Masala Dosa. Everything here is vegetarian and that is a BIG bonus. They focus on the simple task of making delicious healthy South Indian food and they do it well. I read all the reviews about poor service. I just want to put it out there that Amma is NOT a fine dine restaurant. Its a mix between casual and fast food. You walk up to the counter and order your food. Pick a table and sit down with your party. When your food is ready, they will call your number and you get your order. I really do not see how any one can mess up that service and have never experienced poor service myself. I usually go there during lunch or dinner rush and they are pretty packed. Again, this is not a fine dine restaurant. If you are looking for a red carpet treatment with a host, waiter, drinks at the table and other fancy stuff, go visit their other restaurant Turmeric. Amma is great if you want to eat GREAT Indian food, relax and hangout with your party at a very casual and family friendly spot. I recommend this to everyone.

Hard to rate food when you are disrespected from the moment you walk in and your entire meal is served on Styrofoam disposable plates and bowls with plastic silverware. If you are not from India (or perfectly know your way with Indian food) you will be ignored before finally taking your order and not spoken to further. If you have to ask what the foreign named dish on the wall menu includes, youll be pointed a photo on the counter of what it would look like served somewhere else (on ceramic dishes). One copy of a menu on the counter that actually describes ingredients of dishes youve been attempting to ponder while the clerk finishes conversation with other customers or gets off their phone screen. Your tiny cups of food contain little substance, though they appear full. Even the samosa are tiny. I doubt Ill be back to create a pile of Styrofoam trash again.

Very poor service. The customers are not treated equally. You might be the first person in the queue to place an order, but the staff might take the order of the person next in the queue. The staff need training. They carry out business in a society, yet they do not know how to treat customers equally. They need to understand that customers pay for the food and that is how they run their livelihood. However, the staff are not educated enough to know how to treat customers and lack basic manners. They feel that they are doing a favour to customers. The staff in Amma need serious training and bit of coaching on how to treat customers equally when doing business in a society. Poor mannered staff who lack skilld to run a business.

This is the worst south Indian place I have ever visited in my Life. I ordered veg Uttapam and all I got was corn, green beans and carrots in it which were you can tell frozen vegetables. My wife ordered masala dosa and it came as you feel like they have put it in the microware for 30 seconds after getting it from refrigerator, totally cold. We gave it back saying that it is totally cold and they said they will get other which was no batter than 1st. after finishing I vent to Taco Bell which is just there. I would say DO NOT WASTE your money on this. better to go to taco bell and have a cheese wrap.

Well. I will be truthful. The taste is quite close to home. It tastes good. The service is awful though. Prices are sky high. For a simple snack at Amma, you can actually eat a full meal at other places. I have never left the place with a less than 25$ bill. I agree with the others, the cashier is a weirdo. He will not smile at you unless you speak mallu. The way he calls out you rnumber is also wierd. When I first started going here, the restaurant was packed. Now they are swatting flies. Guys can you see why? Improve your servie and reduce your prices.

Great place to eat the nostalgic authentic Indian food. Most commenters are Indians and you know Indian people attitude, they want everything for free. The place is not a fine dining, its a casual dining. You get what you pay for. Food is great and fresh. I regularly eat from here. I know some people personally, who bring (Indian people) bring small steel pots to take sambar for free. Funny? Silly? Cheap attitude? The staff is few they try to cater everybody demand but mostly nice to their customers unless they are too pressured of workload.

Very crowded. The rudeness of staff reminded me of India. Same attitude as a restaurant owner in India. Go here if you want to have snacks only. We had a veg family visiting us we took them here for lunch. Could not find a place to sit and we did not like that you have order your food at the counter and fight for table. We left and went to other restaurant as we did not wanted to get embarrassed in front of our guests.

Being Indian I am critical about Indian food in USA. This place disappoints me greatly - service is BAD - the guys behind the counter never smile and are always in a rush - this totally spoils my eating experience. Food is okay - nothing to write home about... Go there for the cheap prices. I work a couple of miles away from this place but it is generally not on my list of places to eat at :(

Although this is a great restaurant the service is quite lacking as well as the atmosphere. The only thing that keeps people coming is the food. I had ordered an extra bhatura rather than speeding up the process for someone who is in the middle of eating they continued with other ordered and even forgot it until I had to go up to check on the status. Love the food but not the service.

Avg food quality is not on par with other restaurants in this area. The sambhar served is made from ready made mix, coconut chutney made from frozen coconut gratings which doesnt bring the authentic taste. Madras coffee smells like hazelnut... Vada they serve is not fresh, they are kept in fridge and reheated... Only consolation is their location and decent interiors

The only reason for a 2-star is for the tasty food. The service is terrible, especially when theyre trying to close the kitchen & restaurant. They started sweeping & cleaning while were in the middle of our lunch; and, it wasnt just us. For the kind of food that was served, improving the service wouldve helped. Extremely disappointed!!!

This place is overrated. They always mess up your order and then keep you waiting for 20 mins. Whenever I interacted with staff I felt as if they were doing any favor by serving us. Idli, medu wada quantities were very less. We ordered curd rice and was too much sour that we had to return it. I am not going to visit them again.... ever.

Food is ok but the management is so daam cheap. They have so many hidden charges if you dont check your invoice. I have been going to this place for eight yrs and these guys have no shame at all of doing such cheap things.they charge 50 cents to dollars without even telling you. Its a shame on the greed of money by lieying to people.
