My boyfriend just got back from deployment so we were expecting a great date night in town. While we were waiting to be seated, we also had to wait till the hostess finished having a conversation with her friend. I was literally about to seat myself because she took way too long to acknowledge us. That was strike #1. Once we were seated we ordered two jumbo margaritas. Just for some background info, I am a bartender myself so I know how the drink should have been made. The margaritas were completely watered down, we were being very compliant customers and just requested for some more alcohol in our margaritas. They brought another margarita to our tables and we tried them out and it tasted just like straight sour mix. Instead of trying another drink made by the bartender we just decided to order a draft beer. My boyfriend and I ordered the Shrimp Camarones with rice and beans. The good thing was it didn’t take long for them to make our food, but to describe the food in one word..HORRIBLE! The sauce on the shrimp was supposedly their “Mexican Sauce”. I’ve tried Mexican sauce before and I have never tasted a sauce so bland. That Shrimp Camarones should’ve stated on the menu “Shrimp with Tomato Sauce”. The rice tasted like it has been sitting around all day. My boyfriend and I barely touched the food because it was just a waste. Their plates were not even cleaned thoroughly. The server was being very polite and informed us that she will send the manager over to discuss the food. Once the manager came to the table she immediately said “If you didn’t like the food why would you order it?” I was at complete shock just to hear that from a manager who is supposed to provide great customer service skills. What kind of question is that? We were originally going to just pay for the food and just find somewhere else to eat, but we decided to take it off of our bill and just pay for the beers because that was really rude. BUT WAIT… IT GETS EVEN WORSE!! One of the staff members that didn’t even provide us service walked up to the table and said to my boyfriend “I heard you didn’t like our drinks, and if you couldn’t pay for the food why would you order it? Hopefully the beer was good” We paid for the beer only and left. All we wanted was a simple fun night in town. If you want to have a bad day please make sure to go to El Loro “Mexican” Restaurant.

My husband found this place online and said it had good reviews so we decided to try it out. When we walked in the smell of it made me feel at home(California), so I was super excited. It was busy in there and they sat us right away. The guy came right to our table and made us fresh guacamole, which was really good. When the waiter first started he was really good but went down hill very quickly. After he took our order we didnt see him for a while. We had empty water cups the whole time and he didnt notice it. It turns out he was working behind the bar also. The server who brought my food out dropped my plate of food on my lap. I picked the food off my lap and put it on the plate and the server started to walk away and expected me to eat the food that fell on my lap. He didnt even help me clean up the mess or even bring me napkins. My waiter was so busy behind the bar that he didnt even notice anything. After a while he comes up to the table and asks if everything is okay and i said no and he said good and walked away. He was so busy he didnt even notice i said no. They ended up bringing me another plate of food and didnt even apologize or try to make up for their accident. By this time i was over it and took my food to go.

Aweful experience. Place 2 takeout orders requesting separate bags for each order but will pay for the orders together (which means separate chips and sauces). Waitress says i can only get. 1 order of s chips and sauce unless i pay for each order separately (why ?). After discussing with waitress that this makes no sense she put the oder in. The food was brought to us in 15 minutes or so and we went home. We removed food from the bag and found the container with the2 burritos I ordered nearly half filled with water; opened bag containing chips and sauce and the 2 container of sauce were less than half full each (really ?). I believe this to be act of retaliation for me questioning the way the order had to be rang up. I ve gone to several Mexican restaurants in Chesapeake and surrounding areas and never had this experience. I recommend Plaza Azteca in 2 Chesapeake locations, providence rd Virginia beach or main street in suffolk. They know how to treat a customer. Good food, good service, smiling faces and no pettiness. Im telling you, in short, dont go there. Im giving you the condensed versions of my experience...

This is a 4-star Virginia Mexican restaurant, however I emphasize the Virginia modifier Im a snobby Californian when it comes to Mexican food, but Ill be realistic. Being the only Mexican restaurant in the area that I have seen offer al pastor, I was moderately impressed. The meat was, however, a tad dry. I also ordered corn tortillas but initially received flour (they were quick to fix it, but it just gives me pause). I enjoyed the table salsa, it actually had both spice and flavor. The guacamole was also good, and obviously fresh since it was made table-side. They seem to have good happy hour type deals going all week, so if you want a place to come unwind its not a bad spot.

Weve stumbled upon this place by accident and Im so glad we have! This is by far the best Mexican food in the HR area and weve been to quite a few Mexican places! We live in Norfolk but well travel the 45 mins just to come here! Looks wise it doesnt seem much but the staff are great always friendly and the food is always fresh hot and amazingly authentic and oh so yummy! I loved the guy rolling to each table making fresh homemade guacamole right in front of u! Ive ordered the chicken tamales, carne asada, carnitas, and the beef tacos in the past and all were amazing! The serving sizes are very generous and fill u up quickly.

I love Mexican food and Ive been here several times. It seems like the people who are not servers do not care about the customers. I got some take-out food and the guy who took care of me convinced me to get something more expensive than what I wanted and then charged me extra for something I did not want. Then he complained that I dont like spending money. After that he kept being rude to the family behind us because they wanted to use a coupon. I wouldnt recommend this place. Theres better restaurants just a few minutes away with a lot better service.

Found this place and chose it based on the high reviews. When wife and I arrived we were seated promptly. I order special number 21 which came out the kitchen scary fast! As in it was maybe 10 minutes at most from the time we put our order in. The food was good but it wasnt magical as many people described. I would say its a little above average. Dont get me wrong the food was good but wasnt as reviewed by others. I gave it an extra star because the food cam out the kitchen both fast and hot. We had Jessica (Server #: 13) and she was good as well.
