This is my 1st ever Google review, because it is my absolute must as a Fairfax County native to share with you how special this restaurant is. Ciao Osteria is an unbelievable place. My grandmother, who is a Sicilian immigrant, immediately noticed how this was the first place shes ever been to that spelled the entire menu in perfect Italian. My other friend who is an Italian immigrant also noticed this, which was a first for him as well. So for them to see a menu like this, immediately set the tone for them. Then you get to the actual food: my God is it fantastic. Reminds me deeply of Holiday Italian dinners - and their food is absolutely on par with that. Its not often that you can go out to an Italian restaurant and rest assured that they will do an amazing job with a veal or eggplant parmesean - but this place straight-up nails it. This is as authentic as it gets, people. Also their pizza oven, directly imported from Naples, makes one of the best pizzas Ive had in the area. Pastas are very traditional and cooked perfectly, with fantastic flavor. Ive been to this restaurant 6 times, trying 6 different entrees while ordering the same appetizers (bruschetta, calamari, etc) - and every single meal has been fantastic. The ones that Ive ordered previously were just as good as the first meal, so this place truly offers consistently delicious food. Considering the area that this is located in, the authenticity of this food, and the overall Osteria experience, the prices here are absolutely unbeatable for the quality. Also would like to add that the portions are extremely large, so you really are getting a massive bang for your buck here. Ive traveled to Italy abroad, and this place has the comfortability and atmosphere of a true Italian Osteria. Sal, the owner, is a very nice man who will introduce himself to every table and have a genuine conversation with you. He is passionate about his food, the experience, and I have full confidence in him and this restaurant. Plain and simple, if looking at overall value - this place is the best Italian restaurant in Northern Virginia. Ive been a huge fan of Ristorante Bonoratti for a long long time, and I think that Ciaos food is on par with that establishment, but for a much cheaper price and with a more fun casual atmosphere that you cannot find at many places. I could go on and on with the positives, but Im just going to leave you with this - this restaurant is worthy of your time, and you will not be disappointed.

When my family and I went into the restaurant and had dinner, the food was great (ordered a wide variety of food), atmosphere was great (close quarters though), and the service was good until we got the bill. We were celebrating my sons 9th birthday and my son told the waiter. The waiter offered to comp ice cream (came out with a candle - it was nice). When we got the bill, we were charged for the ice cream. My husband was a waiter for many years and said this (offering to comp something and then not doing that) was an old trick that waiters use to get the bill higher. A few months later, we ordered takeout pizza. I arrived prior to the pickup time and the pizza was ready. No one had called to tell me that the pizza was ready. When I got the pizza home it was really soggy. That means it either sat too long or was under-cooked. Either way, we had to put it in the oven to crisp it up. By the way, we live less than 10 mins from the restaurant. I emailed the restaurant to file a complaint because the pizza wasnt cheap and we werent happy. The restaurant didnt bother to respond.

The two of us went on a Friday night when the tables were completely packed. Despite this, our food arrived quickly and our waitress came by multiple times. We ordered a single entree (linguini in vodka sauce with salmon) and an appetizer (calamari). Understanding our intent, they split the main dish onto separate plates for both of us. The food itself was delicious: calamari was crunchy and chewy, and came with two excellent dipping sauces; the linguini was well done and the sauce was creamy and delicious. They gave us ample amounts of salmon as well; I was expecting much less than what we got. The prices on the menu float around $15 to $20, which is fair for the amount and quality you get. I will definitely go back here sometime.

How to describe Ciao. This is the kind of place that is what you think about when you go, I want real Italian. The atmosphere is a bit boisterous and cozy as its not a huge restaurant. It gets very busy Thursday - Sunday but reservations are easy to make. The food is always wonderful, the pastas are fantastic, the pizza bursting with flavors and choices. The specials are always rotating and always gone to soon. The staff is incredible over all of visits we have had nothing but wonderful service. Most evenings even if very busy the owner makes a point to stop by and say hello and does recall tables hes seen a few times which give Ciao a fantastic neighborhood feel.

The pizza here is incredible. The service, fantastic. Our waiter was more than happy to change up the pizza specials to individual specifications, because they make it all fresh. The desserts were fantastic, and the waiter told us which ones are made in the shop. The owner stopped by to say hello, and hes friendly and makes you feel right at home. Definitely, a great little place and highly recommended. We went on a Tuesday, and this place was hopping!! Another sign of its quality. I am glad I used Open Table to make a reservation, and would recommend that you make reservations, on any day of the week.

We arent from the area and didnt know you had to make reservations on a Saturday night. We got there and it was totally full, but we were told we could wait for a seat at the bar. It ended up taking forever, and when we were "next in line" a couple was leaving and another couple who arrived after us tried to take their seats. Our bartender saved the seats for us and invited us to sit, ensuring that we didnt have to wait even longer. It was extremely nice of him and both bartenders were really awesome. The wine was great, the food was wonderful, and it was a good atmosphere.

SLOW DOWN! Food waa actually pretty good minus the old tomatoes for the tomato/mozz salad. Biggest complaint is service! Appetizers, Salads, and Entrees came out like 3 min apart! Pizza arrived before the salad too! Rushing to eat everything! In and Out in 40 mins when I wanted to enjoy my time. Wait staff breathing over me to take half full plates? Not even a busy night...dont get it! Mixed feelings about returning. Too bad cause I actually liked the food for the most part.
