Very disappointing experience. When we first walked in we immediately noticed the huge selection of not just bakery items but also a little deli meat section as well as some German groceries which we were pleasantly surprised by. A minute after walking around the store a lady walking around the store asked if we were ready and we told her we were still looking. Its a big selection and store so it takes a minute to see everything and figure out what you want. Not a minute afterwards she asked loudly "are you ready yet" . We told her that we were going to order once we were ready to order which took us another minute. grabbed some Bienenstich, Some Napoleons, Some Sacher Torte And some sweet pretzels. The pretzels were good, the cakes seemed to be days old, kept refrigerated. The Bienenstich absolutely not edible, hard and stale. I am from Germany and know what this stuff can taste like, even these would be way better and pretty authentic, but sadly you get days old cakes that are dried out, which such a huge store and selection I guess they cant make everything g fresh daily. Expectations ruined we wont be back.

Heidelberg Pastry Shoppe (& Deli) is the real-honest-to-goodness-deal. So many delicious cookies, cakes, tarts, pies, doughnuts, croissants, turnovers and other pastries as well as REAL bread - YES truly real bread - its impossible to list them all. Beautiful birthday cakes baked with love. Colorfully designed cookies. Pretzels both savory and sweet. Delicious German sausages and German delicatessen foods galore. Yes! They make sandwiches too! Charming area to dine inside. Cute area outside with shade trees and tables topped with umbrellas. Theres also a small market with gourmet German foods, herbs and spices for bread dipping, birthday cards, candles, colorful paper napkins and plates. While waiting to check out there were German folks in line ahead of me complimenting the staff on their cookies, cakes and sandwiches. Remarking that they "always come here" for the best European baked goods and authentic German-style sandwiches. And the staff are so nice! Actual smiles and sincere thank yous. This place is a true treasure. Please support this locally owned family business. You will not be disappointed.

My favorite place for pastries! This German pastry shoppe is a staple in the Arlington area. I have ordered the meats, cheeses, lattes, cakes, cookies, oversized german pretzels, and plenty more! The pastries are not overly sweet and are so beautifully decorated. At its peak times, it gets quite busy so they have a ticket system. Usually I just try to go in the non-peak hours to avoid the wait. The parking lot is not big but Ive never had any issues finding space. If you do, Heidelberg is located close to a residential area that doesnt require permits to park so customers could temporarily park in the residential area. Be aware! They are closed on Mondays.

I wanted to get real donuts for an office party. I e-mailed them in advance to find out if they use any preservatives, artifical flavors/colors, or "natural flavor" (a fun word game that the FDA allows food companies to play). I got a vague response, but I thought Id give them a try anyway. The donuts looked real from the outside, but the raspberry and strawberry fillings were less than spectacular (it tasted kinda fake, plus there should be seeds in it if its real). I saw cakes there with bright red and green frosting (those are nasty chemicals). So, its back to Whole Foods and/or making donuts at home.

I lived up the street from this bakery for two years. The intoxicating smell of bauernwurst on the grill in summer often brought me down for a quick lunch snack. The donuts and pastries are excellent and often sold out of choice varieties within the first 30 minutes of opening. I still say the vanilla cream donut tastes how I remember them in my childhood. Lines can be long but they tend to move quickly. The parking lot is laughably small for such a popular place so you may have to park on the street and walk. Either way, this is a great little neighborhood bakery with consistent quality goods.

I ordered a yellow cake with lemon icing and apricot filling for my sisters birthday. The cake was delicious, if oddly decorated. It was my fault for not specifying what colors to use to decorate it. The lemon icing was yellow, and the writing was primary colors, but for some reason the border was hot pink. It looked weird to me, but it was so good, and obviously I didnt care that much if I didnt specify how to decorate it. Ordering and paying online was easy, and everything was ready when I picked it up. The donuts here are also delicious. This place is worth your time!

Its pretty good if you special order something (my sister ordered her wedding cake and petit four wedding favors from here and they were excellent), but in general, the quality doesnt justify the high prices. I spent about $6 on an extremely stale slice of cake and have never been very impressed with the taste of the cookies. Yes, there are a lot of item choices to select from, but mass quantities/selections doesnt equal quality. Additionally, its usually too busy to get very good service...the staff is always rushing you along to get to the next customer.

My daughters wedding was 2/13/10. She had ordered a wonderful sheetcake with raspberry filling. You delivered it in a timely manner, despite a week of record-breaking snow. Our guests loved it. After the event, I put my unwashed sterling silver cake knife in a paper bag to bring home. When I got home two days later I smelled the knife----like fresh raspberries!! Wow. She also ordered from you several dozen Valentine cookies for the occasion---another class act. Thanks!

Being a transplant from the NJ area I can say that this is the only place in the DMV with real new york style bagels. They dont make a lot of them so if you come in after noon on the weekend you may not be able to get a dozen or your pick of flavors. They also have great cookies and cakes. My favorites are the seasonal cookies. Parking can be a pain in the butt though so Id suggest getting there early.

A gem in Arlington. This is real food, not some sales joint that has products shipped in. Real German Bakery. And as it turns out on Saturday morning a mini farmers market too. And on occasion live music. Great sweets, breads and other treats. Looking for unusual good gifts, this is the place. Just dont sample on the way home, cause it smells so good, you will be tempted to.

Probably my favorite place in Arlington. Just go there. The baked goods are the obvious draw, but they make yummy spreads, breakfast sandwiches, and wursts. The BBQ cart is always a special treat. And keep your eyes peeled for the open house every September. They open up the bakery upstairs and you can sample the foods while seeing how everything is made.

Our family has been enjoying Wolfgang and Carlas bakery for a bakers dozen years! We love all the scrumptious pasteries, sandwiches and bratwurst. The cakes are always delicious and beautiful. Free coffee with your purchase is sweet! The bread is wonderful. Plan to spend some time selecting your tasty foods and then enjoying them right there.
