The Caboose is an excellent local restaurant located on Mount Vernon Avenue, the "Main Street" of Alexandrias Del Ray neighborhood. By day, it features a cafe-style menu, with sandwiches, soups, and other standards. The lunch sandwiches are very good, although a tad pricey for a simple sandwich. Vegetarians will find options available, although they are limited. After 5PM, the dinner menu becomes available, with both "conventional American" fare and Ethiopian dishes served. I highly recommend the Ethiopian side of the menu. The dinner menu is also very reasonably priced, and includes more options for vegetarians. The Caboose is also a bakery, and has an excellent selection of cakes, available by the slice for dessert or for purchase whole. In addition to lunch and dinner, The Caboose also serves breakfast, but I have not sampled it myself.

Firstly, if you go on a certain night, you can get a mad deal here! 35$ got us (if i remember correctly....but the appetizers might not be included): 1 App 2 Entrees 2 Deserts 1 Bottle of wine WORTH IT! We had a very pleasant date night here. Its also a very pleasant blend of Ethiopian food with a hint of American fair here and there. The Ethiopian food is all I can judge because its all we had...because American fair is just meh mostly. The desert was pretty much a defrosted chocolate cake thing, and im not big on sweets, so I add to much weight to that on my review. It has a very mom and pop feel when it comes to decor. Nothing fancy, but nothing trashy either. Bathrooms had a changing station in the mens room as well! YAY #EqualRights Food 4/5, staff 5/5, Desert ?/Aesthetics 4/5

Caboose Cafe has a wide array of sandwiches (Like the delicious vietnamese) and salads for lunch (not to mention great quiche) as well as pastries and standard breakfast fare, but dinner here is what sets the caboose apart from any old cafe. Its evening ethiopian menu makes this place spectacular. It has small plates of individual dishes, but if you are sharing dinner with someone, I suggest getting a platter. The platters are large, though, so if your table for to isnt particularly voracious, I suggest getting the platter for one to split. I suggest the lamb as a single dish, though. Everything is reasonably priced, which is great!

A nice coffee shop, with a great selection of Ethiopian and Italian dishes. A surprisingly nice place to have a nice meal. Ethiopian food provides lots of good vegetarian and vegan options, dinner on the spicy side. In the fall or spring sit at an outside table for a nice meal in a nice environment.

Normally I like this place. Unfortunately, the last time I was there it was so noisy that I had to leave. Two different types of music eas playing....loudly. Also, I think I got food poisoning. I have had a good experience so many times prior to this that I may return at some tim much later

Surprisingly delicious and fun! Our waiter was friendly and helpful and the food was excellent! My friends and I all loved our food and we all chose from the Ethiopian menu. Chicken infillay, Beef Alitcha, Zilizil Tibbs, and the Doro Watt all delicious! We had samosas for appetizers, excellent!

From Eric P -- We like "Caboose Cafe" down on Mt. Vernon Avenue in DelRay. Its a combination Ethiopian Restaurant and Bakery. If youre there at closing time you can walk out with a complimentary loaf of baked bread! Its become our #1 Ethiopian Restaurant. Very family, and budget, friendly.

Nice quiet space with good service and food. The coffee is delicious (light or dark roast); the breakfast wraps and sandwiches are very good. The only downside (not a deal breaker) is the potatoes, which have a funny taste. Overall a very solid spot for lunch and breakfast.

Went to try this place based on existing reviews, for a weekday date night. Definitely a cozy place with friendly service. We both went for Ethiopian food, and it was delicious! Portion sizes were quite impressive, especially for the cost. Im pretty sure Ill be back.

A nice little place to eat, something for the Vegans and Carnivores in your group. Some of our party had European some of us had Italian, we were all happy with the food. Leave room for dessert you wont be disappointed. The chocolate ganache is particularly good.

Usually friendly and usually very good service - and, to managements credit, an honest attempt to reach out and make up for a less-than-satisfying experience recently. The food is very good, as is the coffee. All told, a very nice place run by good people.

I loved this place. What a surpise to find ethiopian food at a restaurant called the Caboose cafe. I like the vegan options noted in the menu. We got a decent amount of food - no doggie bag like other places though. The variety of sampler options was great.

Very personable staff and pretty solid sandwiches and bread. The muffins are too rich for me, but everything else is tasty. Nothing fancy during the day, but they have excellent Ethiopian food in the evening for a fair price.

Friendly, intimate environment. The two cashiers were fun and helpful. I had the egg, tomato, cheese sandwich and a strawberry-banana smoothie. The sandwich was great, the smoothie a big sugary. But overall, a great meal.

Stopped by for the first time to grab some take out- FULL carry away boxes and delicious food. Watch out for the red stuff on the vegan sampler- it is hot. Totally delicious, and massive portions. We will return!

Wound up here for brunch when our first choice was way too full, and we were not disappointed. The california omelet was delicious, and the organic Ethiopian coffee was a wonderful surprise.

Nothing special about it, ham sandwich had one thin slice of ham. I can make a better sandwich with same ingredients. Out of potatoes. Definitely not the 4.5 stars it currently shows...

Great normal breakfast options and some interesting Ethiopian fare as well. The bagel and lox was fantastic. They also have a dessert case with some great shareable options.

Great place to eat breakfast or lunch. Many places to sit (patio, window, or tables inside). I visit it frequently as a cozy spot to write while eating lunch.

Do not order a cuban sandwich. Mine was on greasy flatbread and was slathered with mayo. Other things Ive had there were fine, though. Hit or miss.
