I REALLY like this place. Ive always passed it and thought to myself, "I need to go there" but then never got around to it. Yesterday, I got around to it. Its located almost as far east on 2100 South that youre at Highland Drive. Its a really great area. Some restaurants are really great, but when you look out their windows you may see some busy highway or a parking lot. At the Dodo however, you get to look at the beautiful green grass and trees at Sugarhouse Park. The entire restaurant is open and breezy decorated in earthy tones. So its a calming morning environment after an evening of binge drinking. It seemed as though this place was packed but there was no waiting or squeezing by other patrons, we walked in, and were sat immediately. They have a full bar here, so lets make that abundantly clear.(Although a little pricey, 8 bucks for a mimosa!) In any case the waiter who served us was in high spirits and brought out our food(eggs Benedict, and my turkey avocado sandwich with house salad and dressing, both VERY filling) about 7 minutes after ordering it. The manager, or owner, or whoever he was made sure to get around to every table and assure that all our needs were taken care of. When we left every single employee made sure to give their goodbyes, and you know what? It didnt seem forced at all. They were all very genuine and seemed content to be working there. For 6 to 9 bucks a plate I highly doubt you can ask for a better experience. Its as much or less than you would pay at McDonalds. So I say screw the burgers and fries today, come to Dodo and get some delicious food, great service(and drinks) at a fantastic price.

Not sure how I havent written this review already, since Ive been to the Dodo many times. I would give this place 4.5 stars overall (the .5 being for the awesome desserts) but the service has not been totally on par every time Ive been there, so Im rounding down. The Dodo is a pretty happening spot in Salt Lake City. Its one of the more moderately upscale restaurants in the area and seems to always be busy. The food itself is usually excellent. I particularly love the cheese plate to start and every entree Ive had here has always been pretty good. The desserts, however, are where this place truly excels, and I know desserts fairly well. Pretty much every option is good. The Tollhouse pie is their signature dessert -- think melted cookie dough in pie form. Really good. The raspberry chocolate mousse pie is excellent as well. You really cant go wrong with a dessert from here. Prices are a tad higher than the average meal in Salt Lake, but not astronomical.

I went here on Saturday night with my nephews for their birthdays. I was really excited to get their desserts because I have had them in the past and they really are very good. When we got their they told us it would have been a 15 minute wait. We were sat over an hour later. I will be honest, I was upset and it wasnt helping that I was really hungry because I had skipped some meals during the day. When we sat the waitress apologized for our long delay and they offered a free dessert. They also bumped our food to the first in the line and we got it really fast. This really changed my mind and really made me like this place more. I enjoyed my meal but I thought their menu was a little pricey or I would have given their a five star review. The desserts are really good, our group had the coffee cake (by far the best), the key lime pie and the chocolate sin cake.

This was my second visit to The Dodo, and I enjoyed it as much as my first. The food is great, lots of unique dishes. I love the fact that theres regular off-menu specials for both deserts and entrees. When I went this time, it was extremely busy and a little loud, but the hostess managed to seat our party in a more secluded, quieter area. Next time Ill try to go earlier in the afternoon, around 3pm or so. The service is overall great, and the servers are peppy and fun. One negative thing thats happened both times Ive been: At most restaurants my wife often orders custom salad of only lettuce, tomatoes, and olives. Both times weve come here, theres been diced onions somehow mixed in (which make her sick), and last time it took us two requests to have the kitchen remake it properly. Next time, were probably going to skip the salad altogether.

Solid dinner option with some great menu items. Excellent desserts and non- typical pie offerings ( try the coffee cake and the blueberry sour cream pie). Semi-trendy vibe without being obnoxious. Limited menu can make repeat dining somewhat boring and predictable after the first few visits. Parking fills up early but its Sugarhouse-traffic comes with the locale. They accept phone reservations so call ahead as you start your drive so youll have a table ready and waiting when you get there. Barring this trick, youre likely to wait upwards of 30 minutes on a weekend to get a table. Give the Dodo a try. Youll have the added bonus of wondering why the heck Sizzlers parking lot is full as you leave the place.

I was an employee at this restaurant for 3 months. I have autistic spectrum disorder as well as rapid cycling bipolar and ptsd. So needless to say I require a little patience to be effective. However that did not happen. While I was employed by them they would make fun of me in Spanish they would work me the hardest shifts and finally when I had a panic attack at work because I ran out of one of my meds, due to a screw up from my doctor, they fired me for the reason and I quote "your disorder make the people you work with uncomfortable and you cant work here any more. IF THATS NOT DISCRIMINATION I DONT KNOW WHAT IS. SO IF YOU ARE DISABLED OR KNOW SOMEONE WHO IS DONT GO TO THIS RESTURANT.

My husband and I went to The Dodo for the first time and absolutely loved it! I was skeptical at first but cause it is a cool one of a kind restaurant. Which in the past for me has meant snotty servers and overpriced food. NOT the case at The Dodo! I was SO impressed. The atmosphere, the food, the service was all incredible. The whole staff was very warm and friendly, in fact I dare say we had the best service weve ever had at a restaurant! The food was also unique and delicious. Prices ranged from $8.00 a plate to $20.00. Dessert was so tasty and worth stuffing ourselves for. Overall we highly enjoyed our experience and will be going back many many times! Thanks Dodo!

Our service was great. Nice and friendly. The food was extremely unpleasant. We came here for dinner and ordered The Polenta, Quiche, Ravioli and Spicy seafood pasta. The polenta was undercooked and mushy. The quiche was lacking flavor and slightly over cooked to the point it became spongy and the tomato soup was sour. The spicy seafood dish definitely had a kick but zero flavor. The Ravioli was good and the only thing we were able to finish. I heard great things about their breakfast though! :) Decor and cleanliness was perfect. Great for groups.

The food is fresh and tasty but the entrees are not exceptionally tasty, they are just well prepared and use local ingredients (I think). Most of the tasty in this review is associated with the desserts. I do not believe that there is a better dessert place in Utah. However, do not take the pies home because they are not as good that way. The coffee cake with ice cream is the best dessert in Utah, bar none. I have never had a dessert at The Dodo that wasnt great though, and I believe that I have had all of them at one time or another.
