We arrived after 9pm on a Wed. night in mid-September, just as the families and kids were exiting. The atmosphere was not crowded, but cozy; the music not too loud. Greeted warmly by several staff, and seated. Menu (check website) ranges from complex to rather basic Italian. My choice is always the complex dishes too much trouble to make at home (even if I were capable) and I chose the Pork Tenderloin. Now, how complex does that sound??? Well, it is the way it was prepared --- placed on a beautiful baked polenta, crispy on the bottom and creamy though out, with a sauce of portabella mushrooms and dried cranberries. It was just too good!! But, I had trouble deciding on my entree because another dish was served with risotto -- having voiced my dilemma to my server, I nice sample portion appeared. Now, that risotto was pure magic -- sultry, a little smokey, and rich in flavor. My partner had a pizza. It was flavorful, thin crispy crust. It was different than a usual pizza in that the meats and vegs were in small pieces blended into the cheese. It was tasty, but very different. If I could return (we are on the road and probably cant) I dont think we would order pizza -- especially not with the other dishes which are far more intricate and speak of a chef with a creative and imaginative talent. Great feature -- they seat you up to 11 pm!!!!!!!

This was my first and last time in this establishment!! Food was okay at best however the worst part was watching the chef in the open area kitchen preparing pasta and pizzas. This was on Dec 1st 2015 around 2:45 pm. This man was wearing a glove on his right hand while no glove on his left hand, holding and talking on his cell phone. This went on for about 10 minutes, him changing the phone position between his left hand and his left cheek. He would then use BOTH hands to prepare the food in front of him. He at least twice SAMPLED the food he was preparing with his ungloved (left) hand while switching phone between cheek and hand. I should have left while giving my comments to the manager on duty. Im sure there are many things that go on behind a closed kitchen environment?, poor poor hygiene actions are disgusting!!!!

The food here is so good that my husband and I put up with the inconsistent service. Everyones usually nice, but the service can be really slow and last weekend it was non existent. After getting seated right away and given some waters from the busser, no one ever came to get a drink or food order. We could see the waitstaff chatting in the kitchen. We made eye contact with several of the servers and no one came to check on us. After this, the hostess walked into the dining area, we made eye contact with her, and she walked away. She could clearly see we had no food or drinks. After at least 20 minutes we flagged down the bus girl and told her we were leaving. Its interesting that the food is so great here but yet the restaurant isnt very busy. Maybe they should take a look at their service.

Stoneground was OK a few years ago, but has really gone downhill. Went there twice recently (had two Living Social coupons to spend) and both times went away vowing to never go again. First time the pasta (seafood diavolo, since removed from the menu...hmmm) was so salty it was inedible; today for lunch the salad I had was obviously prepared last night with limp greens, rotten greens, dessicated shriveled cucumber, and mealy, disgusting tomato. What cook or waitperson would dare serve such a thing? The chicken parm sandwich was dried out, and had clearly been reheated under a broiler to the point that the edges of the meat were like jerky. Im very angry to have spent any money at all at this place. Never again, when there are so many great and good and so-so places to eat in SLC.

Stoneground is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. I like to get their Turkey Cranberry sandwich for lunch sometimes... so good! I had also got their Steves Special (pasta dish) a few times and I liked it. Havent tried too many other pasta dishes from this place, but they all sound pretty good on the menu. When we go to Stoneground together, my friends and I like to order a couple pizzas to share. I think their mushroom and goat cheese one is amazing. Overall I really enjoy their food, but I think the wine and beer menu can be improved. There are also people playing pool (not necessarily good players - they drop the balls!) sometimes and it can be annoying.

Although it is above a random tattoo shop on University Boulevard (400 South) , do not let the location and surroundings dissuade you from a visit. Perfect for anything from a casual dinning experience to a special night out, Stoneground Kitchen offers a modern intimate dining experience that nicely balances familiar Italian dishes (lasagna, Bolognese) with trendy cocktails and less traditional fare. Appropriately priced, Stoneground kitchen is the perfect venue for your next spontaneous night out, or special occasion. I recommend the Bolognese $20, with a beverage of your choice and then the "Aeroplantini" (Bourbon, Grand Marnier, Aperol, Lime) cocktail for desert.

Excellent overall experience. The atmosphere was dark and rustic without being contrived. Service was exceptional; Our server (Hannah) was helpful and polite without being overly present. The line between being pragmatic and excessive is thin in restauranting, but Hannah executed that balance with the precision of a professional . The calmness of the restaurant was soothing and surprising for a Friday night. The food was superb. Margherita Pizza was packed with flavor with a crust that was chewy and flavorful. The overall experience was great. This place tops the list of fine dining in downtown Salt Lake. Five stars doesnt seem like enough.

Great food at lunch even had one low-carb salad added chicken as option. Was work team outing with visiting VP. Seemed all enjoyed great food even the one vegan found a good vegan option. Did not wait long for food though arriving late might have reduced. Would be great for weekday lunch if local as walking distance includes City Hall and even the courthouse. However for us arriving in several cars for workday lunch, parking was difficult though perserverence paid off. Would say allow extra 20 min if need parking weekday lunch. For dinner and weekend lunch seems more options as reserved business parking is freed up.

Probably the most tender and juicy Tenderloin Ive ever tasted. The atmosphere was wonderful and definitely unique. If you are in the mood for some excellent service and eats, the please consider Stoneground. We had never been here before and asked our server what he recommended. We ordered the two favorites and will probably get them again next time. The Pork Tenderloin and Steves Special. As I said, the Tenderloin was absolutely heavenly and the hint of jalapeño in the Steves Special was to die for. Two thumbs WAY up for Stoneground. Youve got customers for life.

Very fun atmosphere and the food was delicious. A little pricey for the small portions, but the staff was friendly and the ambiance made it an overall positive experience. I look forward to coming back and trying some of the other items on the menu. We went on a week night with a few other couples and it wasnt very busy which was nice. They need to fix the ceiling, however, as they had buckets catching water underneath. Im hopeful this was a rare circumstance because of a heavy rain the day before and hopefully theyve fixed it since.
