I used to love SamPan, but wow have they plummeted. I was a long time customer who would have my lunch delivered because I work alone and cannot close up shop for lunch. Per my usual I was going to order but needed to have the payment split, most on my debit and the tip for the driver in cash. When I asked the person on the phone if they could do this for me she stated "No, the drivers dont like to deal with that." Im sorry? They dont like to DEAL with that? Then I guess you will get NO money. It was beyond ridiculous the excuse she gave me, she would have been better off lying about the reason why they wouldnt do it. The food as a whole was never amazing but they do have their shining stars such as the Snowball Chicken or their Teriyaki Chicken. Their pot-stickers are horrendous, they are doughy balls of goo that are not cooked all the way through, and have very little filling. Definitely not what I or anyone else for that matter is used to in a traditionally thin-skinned pot-sticker. The cream cheese won-tons are great, when you get a lucky roll of the dice and get a cook who doesnt allow them to sit and get completely cold and soggy. The lettuce wraps, which are supposed to be healthy are greasy and soaked in the sauce, the one time I ordered them the lettuce they sent wasnt able to hold up to the massive amount of liquid and grease in the "filling". I would always stick to my favorites, the items on the menu I KNEW were good and safe to eat. But now, with the attitude of the host and apparently the drivers, they have lost a customer, a customer who would order on average 2 times a week. Not only that, but they have also lost the business of the other people who work here, who also work alone on their shifts and would have SamPan for their lunch/dinner. Good going SamPan.

I am still having anxiety about our experience at Sampan last night. Upon arrival, we were seated in the front area with two very over served patrons. It was our family and three year old son and these two drunks. I have been a server for years and these guys were WELL OVER their limit! These guys were so hammered, yelling, screaming at one another--standing up and trying to involve my three year old son in their BS. I felt as though if I said something, it would be an altercation with has intoxicated as these men were. No one from the restaurant ever stepped in to ask these guys to leave, quiet down, etc. They were down right frightening to me. As they were leaving they hassled the manager and made a scene about the prices they were charged and appeared to get a deal. None of the serving staff or management said anything! They seemed as scared as I was. I was close to calling the cops to step in, thats how uncomfortable I was! I was literally shaking and distraught. When the server finally came back after this hugely inappropriate scene, I told him that I thought it was inappropriate and he got the manager who just looked at me dumbfounded and said, "uh...sorry". Compared to my experiences in the past, everything from the food (cold, cold soup, rubbery beef, limp veggies, out of wine) to the service (waiting, seeking help,) was awful. To top it all off, they charged us for all of the food which we were too disturbed to eat. We will never return to eat here. It took me a while to calm down from this experience and I am absolutely shocked at the ways in which it was "resolved". Sampan, watch the drink specials! Dont turn yourselves into a drunk mans paradise else you will run off patrons who expect and are willing to pay for a more upscale dining experience. Shocked.

"first off, we usually order from Sampan every other month. with this time being our last" food poison the cashew chicken should be called celery chicken as thats what they brought us. a box of celery with minimal anything else in it. they messed up our order of Mongolian beef only beef and noodles * specifically said only beef and noodles so when they delivered and the beef and noodles was mostly veg. they did come out and replaced our order for that. PETER took out order and claimed I got exactly what I said i wanted on the phone. which is insulting i had the menu pulled up and repeated my order 2 times to him but who knows what they put in it as my other half was in the bathroom half the night with diarrhea and cold sweats. they also took it upon them selfs to re charge my card to come back out and deliver the cream cheese wontons. the quality was so bad of all the food it was a 40$ order. General chicken who knows what they deep fried and called chicken it was little peices of yuckyness. WORST delivery experience we have ever had from anywhere in salt lake! order at your own risk.

Ordered from here for a stay in night. The wonton and hot and sour soup were both inedible and my wife and I had to throw them down the disposal. I did not try her wonton soup, but the hot and sour had no flavor at first then a terrible after taste. We also got the Moo Shoo Pork, General Taos Chicken and Cream Cheese Filled wontons. The Moo Shoo was the most edible due in large part to the tortillas, but the absolute filling was unsatisfying. I had to spit out the pieces of pork due to being so chewy. The Chicken smelled bad (wife said it was the vinegar) but also tasted equally as poor. The wontons were what I expected at this point of the meal, soggy and unsatisfying but tasted safe. Really if we wanted to get soggy, flavorless chinese food we coulda gone to the frozen food section of the store which is what we will do next time. The positives were the service. They were incredible friendly and professional and we both were very impressed with that. It is too bad the food was so poor cause it would be nice to be able to support that.

This is the closest Chinese joint to my home so its my go-to place for takeout. Its always fine. Im rarely disappointed, never amazed, but usually pleased. The restaurant is clean, service is quick, and the staff is friendly. The only real complaint I have about this place is their constant lack of consistency with their more complex dishes. Im a creature of habit who often orders the same thing but here, its often different. What you love one day will be totally different the next. The first time I had their curry I absolutely fell in love with it and couldnt wait to get it again. Ive had it twice since and its a completely different dish. Same thing with their Mongolian Beef, Lemongrass Chicken, and a few other favorites of mine. Regardless of how it turns out, its convenient and satisfying. The flavors, quality, etc, are very similar to what you would get at a Chinese buffet - only cooked to order.

A regular Friday night on May 2016. We were a group of 4 friends, and each one left his plate in the middle of the table, so that every one could have a try of different tastes. I had fried rice with pork. The rice was slightly burnt on the bottom and one could feel a light taste of burn; the tiny and scarce pork pieces were hard and tough. - Friend 2 had some beef with veggies and peanuts: this beef also was tough and hard. - Friend 3 had some chicken with veggies, just a normal taste as any regular chinese chicken. - Friend 4 had a linguine with (scarce and tiny) lobster pieces and few shrimps, all floating in a soup of peas and other veggies; which I did not dare to try. - Considering as appetizers we had some crunchy unidentified chips with 2 sauces, and 6 egg rolls, the final price of $56 was way too high considering the poor quality of the food. - Never again.
