4 of us went for lunch. We were hoping for Japanese food based on the JAPANESE name of the restaurant. I asked our waiter if they had Katsudon (popular Japanese dish) and he said no. I later came to find out that he was not of Japanese culture at all. Right on the menu, was Katsudon. Our waiter was having communication issues, which we dont blame him for, but as a food facility you should make sure your people taking orders know the menu and then can speak the language of the town. It gets better. My water plastic cup had lipstick on it. I dont wear makeup...even on Wednesdays. I asked for a replacement. That blue plastic replacement seemed clean. One of my co-workers who ordered the katsudon, that came with a small cup of "sauce", noticed a floaty in the sauce. Maybe it is the secret sauce, but on further looking, we discovered it was dead cock roach. I pointed this out to another hostess or waiter who looked shocked. No one came back to our table for some time, then, finally the original hostess came and said she was so sorry and the meal was free. They comped us all. That was nice, but this shows me this place is not up to cleanliness standards. I would not recommend this to anyone. You eat there....beware as you have been warned.

My friend and I ended up here because we were trying to go to Red Ginger which was sadly closed. We saw the 50% off and decided to give Ichiban a try. The restaurant looked run down and dirty. The staff were hard to understand...we were not shown a seat, just pointed towards a booth. The menu was overwhelming and when we asked what the difference was in the blue and white text the waitress mumbled something and walked off. We finally made our orders and ended up waiting the longest time Ive ever waited for sushi. The whole experience took over an hour and half. Ive been in and out of Tsunami faster. The sushi came out and niether of us was impressed. We both ended up eating a piece of sushi (from different rolls) that had a nasty taste to it. Were pretty sure it was rotten avacado. It was not pleasant. I would only recommend this place if you are broke and/or drunk (so you dont care what goes in your body) and HAVE to have sushi. Im not sure of the other location, but I will never go to this location (on state street) again. As my friend and I parted ways we both wished each other luck on not getting sick. You definitely get what you pay for here. ...and even then...

Place looks old and dirty from the outside and the inside. The person who sat us initially took the order and I asked for an appetizer while waiting for the the fourth guest. It was beef tatami, which I wouldnt recommend to anybody ever. I asked the guy what it was and he murmured something in his Chinese English accent and then said yeah. I said "okay Ill have that" thinking well its $8 dollars and it must be good. Turned out to be half cooked pieces of meat with tobiko on top. Thats fine until our server came who was very difficult to understand and completely forgot to add two rolls out of the five we ordered and when we mentioned it she just said ok and went back to eating her lunch on her break in the table next to us. I saw and heard a few other people complaining about the service near us as well. Definitely not the best sushi place and Im never willingly going back, when there are far better places for the same price. The sushi wasnt that bad, but not worth the nasty environment and incompetence of the staff.

Would give zero stars if I could. While sitting at the bar I was only a few bites into the meal when it was interrupted by two baby cockroaches that crawled up from between the refrigerated sushi box and the bar and went straight onto my plate. It sounds like something that is so disgusting it couldnt happen in real life, but there I was, watching these things make their way around my food. I didnt know what to do, so I just waited for the waiter to come by. I told him I couldnt finish eating and pointed to the plate. He was embarrassed, but all he did about it was kill them with his towel and say sorry. I shouldnt have paid, but I was too dumbfounded and grossed out at the moment that I just wanted to get out of there. Nearly puked. The incident was reported to the board of health a while ago and obviously nothing has been done about it, so Im spreading by word-of-mouth. I wish I had read reviews before going about others getting sick from this restaurant. Dont eat here, it is neither clean nor safe.

Ive been here a few times. The service is always lack-luster, and the food is... well... think The Panda Express of Sushi. You get what you pay for, and getting the 50% off pricing on sushi only makes this food and service combo barely digestible. I have tried moving to pick-up orders, hoping that just getting the food at good prices would suffice, but no luck. Even just picking up the food, they are inaccurate, disorganized, and have bad attitudes. I asked if my order included chopsticks and napkins, to which the girl at the counter replied sharply "YES IT IS", as if she wanted me to leave already. No chopsticks or other utensils, no napkins, we ordered 4 rolls between the two of us, our orders were mixed in the takeout containers (not a big deal), but then there was barely any wasabi and only one thing of soy sauce. Also, one of the rolls I had tasted like old fish. Disgusting. Not going back, and making it a point to tell others not to bother with this dog food and crap service.

Wow. This WAS our date night favorite spot but tonight was the nail on the coffin. If they take you out to the patio just know your screwed. Patio service in general always sucks. We were completely ignored tonight. It started with the sake for 2 which ended up with one glass with the second glass 20 mins later after we had ordered a second round and asked AGAIN for a second glass. The second round of sake never came. We never got Wasabi, ginger or soy sauce. I actually got up and got that myself. We never got serving dishes until after my husband got upset that we were ignored they finally got around to bring us dishes. The food was bland at best. No one came to check on us until we decide to just walk up front and pay then they came running. This place sucks. If you want good sushi go to Yi Sushi in midvale. Its a little ways from here but you get AMAZING food AND GREAT SERVICE. Good luck Ichiban, your going to need it. We will never go back.

Very VERY pleased with this place. As you can tell my clicking my profile, I very rarely leave a good review, in fact I have to be very blown away to be pleased and boy was I pleased! This place had by far the best sushi in the state! Best service and awesome cooks! Will be coming here again soon! *********************. UPDATE**************** came here with a business friend of mine, the food was spectacular until we saw a little friend crawl from under our plate. It was a baby cockroach! We were so discussed. We told the manager, she didnt apologize. She didnt even flinch. She just squished it and threw it away. Like it was no big deal. I am now home and I am sick to my stomach. I will be contacting the health department. That is GROSS! If you have baby roaches that means youve had them long enough for the eggs to hatch and them to grow! I am so sick!
