we ordered a meal for our family of 6 maybe 30-45 minutes before closing. Anyway...since we dont live in the area we got there a little late and maybe they tossed our food or put it away...im not sure. But she still had our order and although we had to wait 15-20 mins for our food to be re-made, they did it anyway. She also gave me and my husband some complimentary almond cookies in a box while we were waiting. they were yummy!!! We live in Millcreek but we always go to this restaurant thats around the downtown area. Ive been going to this restaurant since I was little so I dont like going anywhere else if I can help it. There is a difference in the way other Chinese Restaurants make their food and since Im accustomed to this place, its where I prefer to go. Food is great and hasnt changed much in the last 30-40 years or so. The ppl at the counter are always nice to me and hardly ever make any mistakes on our orders even tho we tend to order a lot. We ll keep going to Ho Ho Gourmet on state for as long as we can

One of the best most authentic chinese restaurants I have had in a long time outside of China. Restaurant has very good authentic dishes for the more adventurist diner, however, if you want good old amercanized standbys, this is the place for you, also. When you first walk in it seems to exude the label "whole in the wall", however, once you settle there is a relaxed atmosphere that the servers seem to encourage. I had read a previous review that persons of Asian background had priority over all others, however, did not experience that here at all. Wanted that to be VERY clear about this place. Unfair. I recommend the Salt Crusted Shrimp and the Shanghai chicken. Dim Sum dishes are authentic and some of the best I have had slumin in New York China Town. Found this place from recommendation of Chinese friends at work. Nuff said. Pros: Great authentic food, good service with friendly people. Cons: Little bit of a fixer upper builiding, parking not great. Probably not condusive to groups over 7 to 8.

Definitely a dive in terms of ambiance, however the food could not be better! We often go for dim sum on Saturday or Sunday morning. I wouldnt go any earlier than 11:00am as they dim sum doesnt start to come out until around that time. The a la cart menu is legit as well. The owner is the absolute best. He is so funny and very kind! Do not miss this place on your stop over in Salt Lake City! Its always busy...so expect a short wait. Additional seating upstairs for larger groups. Parking is limited at busy times, but street parking is available. My only criticism would be the condition of the restrooms. I only visited it once with my small child who absolutely could not wait. Thats the first and last time I ever ventured down there and theres a reason for that. Having said that, I dont go to Ho Ho Gourmet to hang out in the restroom. So...theres that.

I am originally from the east coast & over the last 8 years I have lived in UT; I have been on a quest for my favorite restaurants. After numerous chinese restaurants, I have now found my Favorite Chinese place. Dont let the location or look of the outside put you off. The food is surely worth going there for. Again & again.. I think Im a pretty tough food critic so if your looking for GOOD Chinese with LARGE portions, go to the HO HO Gourmet. The staff was friendly so what the previous poster said .. just ignore it. They probably didnt tip well or at all, in which case they wouldnt get treated well at ANY restaurant being repeaters that were cheap. I am white & thrilled to have found this place! Highly Recommend to Anyone that wants Good Chinese!

The restaurant itself is a bit of a "hole in the wall" but the food is great! We ordered the cream cheese wontons and potstickers for appetizers and were very pleased with both. The wontons were delicious and the potstickers also very tasty and were much bigger than any potstickers Ive had at any restaurant. Then we ordered the ham fried rice, mushrooms & beef, and the sweet & sour chicken for dinner. Everything was great! The fried rice was spectacular, the beef was very tasty and the chicken was fabulous. The chicken was actual white chicken breasts, not what we like to call "mystery meat", and the breading was perfectly crispy, even after sitting in the sauce. We were very pleased with our experience there and will definitely return!

Im glad Im not a chicken. But if i was a chicken, i would want to be made into General Tsos chicken. I wouldnt want to be confused with orange chicken, or have too much breading like some of the other places you go. No! I would want my precious white breasts to be made into Hoho gormets General Tso chicken. Only then, would i feel that my life had counted for something grand. I would be cooked to perfection in their special recipe sauce, and served up hot and just a little spicy. I would also hook up with one of those sexy cream cheese wonton appetizers, dipped in the most heavenly sweet and sour sauce you have ever slathered on anything. Yeah... That would be a dream come true... If i were a chicken.

I love the food at this restaurant, authentic Chinese food, big portions, reasonable prices. I personally enjoy over and over, the Beef with Oyster sauce, Beef with Broccoly and Pan Fried Noodles and the Wongtong. Would reccomend to visit the restaurant during weekdays for dinner, weekends are crowded. Restaurant looks outside and inside are not great and service could be better, but given the choices of Chinese food at SLC, I rather enjoy great Chinese food, than americanized sweet and bland versions of Chinese food. Eating at Ho Ho Gourmet brings to memory flavours of Cantonese food from other amazing restaurants located in Austin TX, Lima (Peru) and Guayaquil (Ecuador).

I want to give this place 5 stars because the food is amazing! The portions are huge and the prices are cheap compared to other places. I love the Dim Sum here. The one thing that they could work on is the fact that the place is super tiny and crowded. I stood at the front near the counter for a few minutes, which wasnt so bad aside from the fact that I felt like I was cramped in there and in the way of people trying to pay for food. The older guy who Im assuming is the owner seems like a great guy. One of the waitresses spilled some food and he was really kind to her and helped clean it up. I will definitely come back here for more Dim Sum!

I just read a review where this lady says "dont even question the appearance inside????" Are you kidding me?? Went there once and as soon as I walked in there I couldnt stand the nauseous smell, and all I could think of was "if this is how the dinning side looks, how disgusting and filthy can their kitchen be?" Seriously people if you just dont wanna get any diseases AVOID this place, I rather pay more and eat at a nice and clean place than sit at some cheap old mobile home where they might even have rats and all kinds of animals running wild everynight once they are closed. THIS PLACE IS GROSS!!!!
