I am convinced all of the 4 and 5 star ratings on are from people who are romanced by the hipster vibe of this place or dont know what a real pastry tastes like. The pastries and cakes are absurdly over priced for what you get. I was shocked at the lack of flavor. I purchased a canoli for close to 5$ there was no cinnimon in the filling or the shell, the filling had zero flavor, and was very dry. I also got sever different kinds of their cookies which are 11.95 per pound. Each and everyone of them was bland and stale. Its as if they ran out of vanilla and sugar that day. Also, please, for the love of God, do not try the Limone Sable. I have never tasted anything so awful. It was not just lack luster, it was actually terrible tasting. Clearly they do not know the difference between lemon zest and lemon peel. It was bitter and sour all at the same time, disgusting. Further more, the girl helping acted completely put out to take my order. She took everything out of the case I asked for, proceeded to lay it all over every counter and scale they had, then used 5 small boxes when I told her to put them in one large box. Because the items were literally everywhere, she forgot to include several of them and I had to point out she had left them around the counters. We also ordered Italian sodas which were seriously lacking in the syrup. If I wanted club soda with whip cream I would have ordered that. One of us bumped our soda on the counter and it fizzed over. As we were furiously searching for napkins to clean up the mess we heard two employees behind the counter laughing at our "classic Italian soda mistake" yet watched us scramble for a napkin. There was no offer to help clean up let alone give us a towel to do so, only condescending remarks. On the way out the hostess stood right by the door. Our arms were full of our over priced terrible pastries and she refused to open the door she was standing next too. After watching us struggle to leave she told us to have a nice day. This place needs a new chef, a new management team and to quit hiring hipsters that are too arrogant to do their job right. It was like I paid them 50$ to treat me like crap and sell me garbage. Never. Again. Do not waste your money, time or gas. I wish I could rate this negative stars.

We usually loved going to Gourmandise for lunch. But, by all means DO NOT go there for dinner. I asked the waitress what her favorite meal was and she told me the tri-tip with fingerling potatoes. When my meal got there I noticed immediately that the supposed "tri-tip" looked like a slab of Arbys processed meat and it even had that greenish/multi-color sheen to it that old meat has. It was so tough I had to saw through it using a sharp steak knife, which means it was not actually tri-tip. The sauce also looked like grey vomit with chunks of blue cheese in it (sorry for that visual). After pushing the meat around on my plate the waitress asked me if I liked the meal and I said "no". She then responded, "Oh, really? Well, its my favorite." She then walked away without offering to make it right. We ended up getting some pastries, hoping to make up for the horrible dinner. Nope. We got home and tried their croissant bread pudding, which could be compared to a hard brick-very dry and flavorless. The macarons consistency were also completely off, they had an almost soft bready texture?! So bizarre. I am hoping they just had a bad cook that night but who knows...We will look to spend our money elsewhere in the future. Les Madelines is pretty good if you are looking for authentic (edible) French food.

My husband and I are long time fans of Gourmandise. We have loved the atmosphere, the service and most especially the food and pastries. It makes me so sad that our last three visits here have been less than we are used to. The pastries in particular are not as good as they used to be, it seems like they are cutting corners with fillings that leave a bad aftertaste (Mille Fois). The tomatoes in my salad were absolutely mushy, as were my husbands. The quiche was oily. The restaurant itself was not as clean as it used to be with food splattered on the wall and dust on the windowsills. Also, my water glass, my lunch plate and my knife were all either visibly dirty or had hair on them. Im giving them 3 stars because our waitress Elena, who has waited on us several times, was efficient, accommodating, and so sweet. I did see a waiter spill quite a bit out of a glass of milk for the next table, he looked to see if anyone at that table had noticed (they had not). He wiped the milk off the outside of the glass with his hairy arm and served it!

Dont skip the savory dishes, theyre all absolutely delicious. I tried the soup in a bread bowl and I really recommend it: the bread itself is amazing and goes well with the soup. I recommend taking half a sandwich if you go for that option, to save room for dessert ;) Among the pastries, we tried the croissant pudding, strawberry ring, flaming heart and a petite red velvet cake for 4 people. I recommend the croissant pudding because it was served warmed with whipped cream and our choice of chocolate or caramel sauce. The strawberry ring was refreshing because of the fresh strawberries. I didnt like the flaming heart, the cookie was not very good, so I dont recommend the cookies or shortbreads there. The staff was very very nice. Its easy to find a parking spot around the block if the gourmandise parking is full (which happens very often). Overall, I loved this place. I went 3 times!

I LOVE this bakery. I live in Dallas, and I travel to SLC frequently for work. I found this place by chance a couple of years ago on my first trip, and I am SO GLAD that I did. Now I stop by every time Im in town to grab some treats for my meetings (nothing better than showing up with a box full of goodies!), and lunch for myself. They have a fantastic veggie sandwich. All of their bread is fresh and homemade, and the veggies crisp. Lunch is as good as the bakery! The service is good. Theyre attentive, and when I go in and just ask for an assortment of their favorite treats for a meeting, the counter attendants always put something yummy together. Ive never sat down to eat (always to go), but its always been quick and efficient. DEFINITELY stop by if youre in the area-- you will not be disappointed!

Ive only been here on a few occasions. Though a little over priced the bread is phenomenal, and authentic. The pastries that Ive had have been very good, Eclair is definitely one of the best Ive ever had. I have always tried theyre french dip "toasted" as they say, but it really was almost unbearable to eat. It had a strange bitter burned taste to it. And the meat was rather stingy. However I am very willing to try other things on their menu. the waiters have never been terribly nice, or memorable. But out of the 2 times Ive bought pastries from the counter the ladies helping me have been VERY VERY nice. Thats honestly why Im giving 4 stars. I remember one was shorter and had dark hair. Young. Very nice, and that ultimately is the different between 2 stars and 4 for me.
