If you live in Salt Lake and are into good food, presentation and atmosphere, you really need to come here. First off, location and building are great. Every wall is an enormous window that lets in immense amounts of natural light. The restaurant is hip, but no off putting. Its clean and simple with an enormous covered deck so you can dine outside if you like. The service is phenomenal. The server checked in the perfect amount of times, kept our glasses full and dirty plates cleared off. I hate when an empty, dirty plate is left on my table. Thats the entire reason I pay to go out and eat. So others can clean up my mess. They were extraordinary at this. The menu is exactly what I love. They dont have a huge amount of options, but the options that are there, are excellent, and the menu changes often. I came here for our anniversary and I cannot speak higher about this location. I made reservations on Open Table, and as dumb as this sounds, I was pleasantly "surprised" when I gave them my name and they took me to our table that they had ACTUALLY saved for us! Amazing right? I cant even estimate how many times Ive made reservations at restaurants only to be told I need to wait 25 minutes. What was the point of the reservation then? Current is not a cheap location though, however I do feel that every extra cent I paid on the bill was totally worth it. This is the exact type of place I dont mind paying a little extra for. Afterwards you can head right next door to Under Current, the bar that is owned by the restaurant. Apparently they also have a small food menu over there as well.

I was excited to try this place Ive heard good reviews and love seafood. We reserved a table at 7 30, and things went down hill from there. Honestly my experience was only bad because of the service we had. We ordered our drinks and appetizer, all we ordered was the clam chowder and two hush puppies. We waited 30 minutes for appetizers! I was starving by then so I asked we could hurry and order, we also ordered two coffees. Now its 9 and we have still not seen our food, our waiter never checked on us either. Finally I had to walk around and find him and ask for an update, I casually asked why service was so sloe tonight, he said its really busy, to give credit I understand its out of the waiters control how busy the kitchen is but not once did he ever check on us or explain why the wait was long, he only had 2 other tables and us, Ive been a server in the past so I get how crazy it can be but this was just poor, I mentioned how never brought our drinks and coffee which had nothing to do with the kitchen, he says he forgot and will bring it out, finally our food arrives at 9 35, I was so hungry and irrattated I scarfed the food down and hurried and asked for a check, we didnt leave the place until 9 40 so I was annoyed being at a dinner over 2 hours. Needless to say I cant really gave a fair review on the food. I was so hungry from waiting long I would of eaten anything, if I ever go here again which I really hope I dont, Ill make sure to go on a weekday night.

This is the seafood restaurant SLC has needed for a very long time. Theres still a couple newer places Ive not been too, so I wont be dogmatic, but I still love what I see here. The facility is top notch. The service was stellar. The fish was cooked correctly. That as high a praise as I can give. I like my crab cakes and chowder better, but I give them kudos on their interesting takes on the dishes. I prefer to leave the original brine in an oyster when I shuck it. No doubt it is rinsed out to remove any shell pieces left from a less than perfect job shucking the oyster. It also removes a lot of character. That said, they did a perfect job on the branzino. Im ready for the day kale is no longer de rigeur everywhere, but I felt no need to eat the kale used as a bed for the fish. I look forward to the day we have more restaurants serving whole fish.

Excited to finally see a place in Salt Lake that is really striving to get in right. From the decor and ambiance to the beverage program, food and service. I dont think its fair to compare Current to restaurants in other metro areas, as the critics in cities like SD, SF, and Portland are much more harsh. The food here is fantastic, service has been top notch everytime Ive been here, drinks are inventive, good wine list for Utah. Only complaint Ive had so far is the bread (a foccacia I believe) is less than stellar. Would rather see the type of bread you see served in Italy or France, a crusty hearth bread. But since Moore bread shuttered its operations, great bread is not as easy to find in SLC. Keep up the great work, hope to see more of your restaurants popping up in the future

Ah-mazing food, service, and ambiance! I came here for lunch and ordered the grilled calamari, clam chowder, cream of mushroom soup, and fish n chips. My favorite was definitely the grilled calamari -- the smooth and chewy texture of the calamari with seasoned potatoes laid in lemon aioli made for the perfect blend of favors. The soups were also good, I greatly enjoyed the clam chowder. The only aspect that disappointed me was its portions. You will need to order more than one dish to be satisfied. However, I left happy and not too stuffed. Overall, a great seafood restaurant, definitely give this place a try.

Wow. Salt Lake City you are full of surprises. Who would have thought you can find such excellent sea food here?! Their oysters are fresh and quality and so is everything else I tried. Their sea scallops with their carrot and ginger flavoring are amazing. They also have several salads using mostly organic ingredients while keeping the mix creative. The atmosphere here with the high ceilings is great and gives the place a chic and cool, modern feel. Service is friendly and fast and knows what they are doing. They have a good selection of drinks. I love their beers which mainly contain German style beers.

Ate my day of birthday dinner (not to be confused with my day after birthday lunch) here. We walking in without a reservation - did not want to wait for a table, so we sat at the counter. The decor is very modern and nice. I started with oysters, which they have a very interesting selection of. My main course was delicious and they service was very friendly (but not overly). My only complaint was that they served the food a little too quickly (the main course came nearly on top of our starter), but they made up for it by splitting the salad we shared (a iceberg wedge) in the kitchen.

We needed a restaurant to impress an out-of-town client with difficult dietary constraints. I called and Andrew, the manager, spent 30 minutes going over menu options with me. He assured me that our client would have not just one, but several, options. Current exceeded our expectations. Andrew and staff made us feel like we were bringing a celebrity to dinner, and our client was impressed and happy. Zoe was an attentive server. Nothing could have been done better! Kudos. Big Kudos. Go here for excellent food, service, atmosphere and to feel special.
