The beer is awful! The service is awful! The food is awful! Did I say the service was awful! The staff is known to hang in the back and not attend to customers! They would not allow us in because we were wearing backpacks! They told us to leave and go on our hippy camp out! I would not even give 1/2 a star, but that was not an option! We are both women who own homes in the neighborhood and work in Forensics/Law Enforcement. We cannot understand the discriminatory attitude of the staff at this restaurant. When they first opened up they were struggling. Their reputation regarding food and service was quite bad. Despite this, I lobbied in their favor because they were bringing a unique and convenient new restaurant to the Avenues. I urged my friends and colleagues to give them another chance. Despite all my good deeds, I have never experienced adequate service and the last time I tried to eat there my friend and I were literally asked to leave because we were carrying backpacks. Can you believe the nerve of this place? I can guarantee that I will no longer support or defend this establishment. If they continue down this road they are bound to fail. If you havent already experienced the pretentiousness of this restaurant please feel free to check it out yourself.

Our party of 3 arrived at about 10:30am for Sunday brunch. We were given the option of being seated in the dining room or the bar noting that alcohol wouldnt be served in the dining room until 11:00am. We chose the bar of course. We started off by ordering $3 mimosas and $3 bloodies. The mimosas were quite good but the Bloody Mary was just okay. After looking over the menu, 2 had chosen the chicken and waffles and I had chosen the Proper Benedict. I also saw an offer at the bottom of the menu to add a side of house bacon for $3. Well I love bacon so I decided to add a side. The service was relatively quick and the presentation was well done. But the flavor of the food surpassed all expectations! The Benedict was prepared well and the layers of flavor just danced in my mouth. Im very glad I tried the house bacon because it was some of the best bacon Ive ever eaten. It seemed to be caramelized in maple with a spice kick. I could have eaten a pound. Were also noticed that after 11:00am that people started to line up at the door (glad we came early). Overall it was a great experience, good food, and decent prices. We will return and recommend to others.

Love these boys, usually love this place except for last night. We (and a whole line of people) waited five minutes for a host to show up, who didnt apologize for the wait at all. Our server was basically non-existent, as was his personality. Didnt say "thanks", smile, or ever check on us at all, a pretty reasonable expectation, I think, especially when you have people as awesome as Jackie on staff. Wondering about the new managers hiring choices (which are clearly based on hipster appearance and attitude, and a presence of thumbrings and man buns). Feel like this place needs someone as kind and charming as Andrew to take his place in the front of house -- it lacks the great vibe it used to have. Also, "wet floor" signs are really helpful for when there is, well, a wet floor. Totally landed on my ass on the way back from the restroom because there was water on the floor. And I know how to walk properly, I promise. Veggie burger was overly spicy and bland at the same time. Fries were actually really good, pickles were good, as usual. If the pickles are ever bad, then Ill worry. Miss the charm this place used to have.

Decidedly my favorite place in Salt Lake. A true neighborhood pub with just the right touch of class one expects from the Aves. The food comes out well plated and remarkably fast even on a busy night. Their chef, Justin, is always coming up with new ways to incorporate high quality and local ingredients into then menu and specials. I recommend the Proper Breakfast (Saturday/Sunday brunch only) in particular. Service is just want you want when headed out for a Sunday brunch or casual dinner. Professional and attentive without being overbearing or rushed like youll find at other brunch spots. It was especially nice to arrive to find Tai at the host stand ready to seat guests (instead of having to wait for the host, and for a table) and Ellie provided excellent well caffeinated service and was very knowledgeable about the menu and the beers on tap. My only regret is that they only have a seasonal club licence so I had to buy food just to fill up my growler. However the taps at proper just keep getting better and Ive especially enjoyed Rios more experimental brews such as Gose the Gozarian and the Skittlebrau.

Weve been here a few times lately. Its become our go-to place for excellent "pub" food- but AP really covers the full spectrum- far more then just pub food... For example their house pickled veggies are always good- a nice light starter. Tonight our party was able to span the distance between the pub classic waffles and chicken, to a sous vide cooked beef fillet. Both were executed very very well- really couldnt ask for much more with the food- and I think they do a much better job of it then most of the other "similar" establishments. Our only gripe with AP is the light duty beer. When youre used to full strength, the familiar styles- IPA, Saison, etc- come up so short served @ 4%. They were also out of Gose tonight- if its going to be 3.2 it might as well at least be interesting. :) Cheers guys!

Ive been hanging out here A LOT. When I have a choice of where to go, this is my first option lately. The var is AMAZING, they have so many cool local beers and Whiskys and Gins its hard to beet the service. The food is seriously awesome, last night I had the burger with the cheese sauce and tomato jam WOW! I had the Red Oatmeal stout and it rocked my world (I had read about it on-line and had to go try it... Yah... it was worth going) There patio is one of my favorites, the Avenues are so peaceful and yet hip and happenn... Brunch on Sunday is one of my favorites, seriously love this place. oooh, ooh, yah Whisky and Proper Flights Local High West Whisky with AP Small Batch Beer Pairings... SO DAMN COOL!

I came from California and didnt know about the law that you have to get food if youre drinking, which by the way is so ridiculous. Anyways the food was not good. I had chicken and waffles and it literally looked like a frozen waffle with cold chicken and a egg on it the price was pretty high as well. Tried to get passed that and tried the hopspital IPA... Worst IPA I have ever had period and trust me I live in the land of craft beer Ive had many IPAs. I really dont understand how this place has over a 4 star review. On top of that our waitress was rude. Definitely not coming back here again next time Im in Salt Lake City.

Delicious food, very good beer, nice vibe, and great staff. This is one of our regular places, weve been dozens of times, and it is always good. My kids especially like the childrens options and are more than happy to wolf down some buttered noodles or waffles. Unfortunately, we dont go as often anymore as the menu is pretty static with not many options for vegetarians. The veggie burger fries are great, and the gnocci is also excellent. So, if were in the mood for either well gladly go. There are a few vegetarian options on the small bites menu as well that you can pull together with a salad for a meal.
