Traditionally whenever a reviewer critiques a location, they never compare one place with another specific one; they generally make a broader comparison as to how this business competes generally not only with other local restaurants but also with local places having a similar menu. Im breaking that rule with this particular eating establishment. The fact is, this is Asuka with a different name. The fish tank inside the lobby is the same, the outside hasnt changed a bit, the tables are the same although they no longer place the regular soy sauce at the tables only the light. The roll I had was different as well. More of that later. Like I said -- I cant help but compare this place to Asuka in its prime. After all, that was the expectation I had when I arrived and the expectation of several others who arrived at the same time. The staff was extremely polity and helpful -- I give them full marks for that, but this just doesnt compete with Asuka. If youve never eaten at Asuka and are expecting a review unbiased by its twin, this is definitely not that review. If you remember Asuka and think these two are identical twins keep reading. Youll thank me later. As Asuka connoisseurs might guess, the first question out of my mouth was, "Do you still have the all you can eat sushi lunch?" The answer, of course, is no. Apparently the twin is a la carte. That was the fist disappointment and meant that I could only order one roll instead of the typical sashimi/nigiri combination that I have come to really enjoy. That, however, is forgivable. After all, times are tough, the twin had to have left for a reason, and there definitely comes a times when you have to let something go no matter how good it is. Thats definitely not a deal breaker. Messing with my favorite roll is. I loved Asukas Vegas roll. My coworkers and I would sometimes order three or four of those rolls and polish them off in addition to everything else. We would save a roll for the end because we knew no matter how full we were we could fit in one more Vegas. Vegas just isnt what it used to be. The thing that set the roll off for me apart from its big size was the fried guacamole. I loved the way the guacamole mixed with the tuna, sour cream, rice, and seaweed. They would even put additional guacamole inside the roll and top it off with a special sauce. It is a winning combination that would make me excited to drive across town to get it. However, they exchanged the fried guacamole with tempura. Definitely a major let down; tempura just doesnt cut it. It doesnt blend as nicely with the other ingredients as the guacamole did. And its a smaller size than it once was, which has a good side because it no longer breaks apart in the distance between the plate and your mouth. But a smaller size means not as filling. It was a good roll once. I wont get it again. Having said that, though, I probably could have loved Kyoto, if it hadnt of been for Asuka. The problem is, you come expecting it to be the same and it isnt. It has lost the quality and vision that once made Asuka great.

Kyoto was so amazing. The service is so nice everyone is so kind its like my family. The food is delicious and well cook and the shows are nicely done. The tables and restaurants overall design and look is so cool and makes me feel like Im in Japan which is amazing and genius. The sushi is even great too! Not many areas have sushi bars so I recommend checking them out because this place is really good. Im not just advertising them Im being serious they really are good. The service and food is great and the environment makes you feel welcome and home-like. Its fantastic, I highly recommend checking them out because a lot of time went into the beauty of the whole building and I hear they are working on adding in even more fun aspects like karoke and so on its really good. I love this restaurant and I highly recommend you check them out because they are worth it. Dont think about the bad reviews from other people they dont know what they are talking about if they think that this restaurant in anyway has bad service. Im sorry but I just dont think that those kind of people can tear this restaurant down especially when it doesnt deserve it. The manager is named Tom and he is very sweet and understanding of his customers its like he sees them as friend how friendlier can he be? This restaurant is great and I hope you all give it a chance, ignore the bad reviews because thats not the Kyoto I went to.

DO NOT go to Kyoto, they have the worst customer service ever. I have brought so many large parties to this restaurant and have been going for almost 2 years but their new management has got to be the most disappointing management I have ever dealt with. I was given a coupon for buy one get one free hibachi grill to celebrate their grand opening. I went to their restaurant to redeem it and they said that I couldnt do it because it was a Holiday even though it said nowhere on the coupon that it was not valid on Holidays. I just tried to redeem it again along with 2 free sushi rolls that their co-owner offered to me due to my awful experience the time before but they will not allow it because the person that gave it to me no longer works there. I asked them if they would rather lose customers than redeem the coupon and the managers answer was "uh, yes." and then OFFERED to cancel my reservation I had just made with him. I will take my business elsewhere, I would rather pay full price at SHOGA for each roll than support such awful customer service, Shogas sushi is better anyway.

Kyoto a restaurant that serves sushi and Japanese styled food cooked with hibachi skilled men. If that isnt great I dont know what is. The place is nice the food is delicious and its actually so fun to be there. The place is welcoming and the employees feel like my family. They treated me so nice and the manager Tom is so lovable. Hes so friendly and sweet and he understood me and others. I have been to plenty of japenese restaurants trust me but this one just felt different. It felt so homecoming and it was great. The restaurant LOOKS fun it has a fun design that makes you feel like your somewhere in Japan how genius is that? The employees are nice and the food is delightful. I dont know who directed these bad reviews towards Kyoto because maybe the problem was them if Im being all honest. This restaurant is really nice so treat them like your family be nice and have fun. Dont just go there to start drama and disturb the peace that this restaurant is keeping for others because that just makes you look like a fool.

Out of 10: Food: 8 (sushi 9) Staff: 9.5 Wait time: 6 (opening night. Ill be going again because I know the wait time will be less when they are fully staffed) Entertainment:10 Overall experience: 10 Would I go again? Every week! We were just going somewhere to get some sushi. What we got instead was a pleasant surprise! Everyone was so nice and the sushi was the best I ever had! But the entertainment. The chef puts benihanas to shame! He was very good and upbeat and it made the whole thing an excellent experience. Also surprisingly affordable for that kind of place. We paid under $30 before taxes for the 2 of us and we were stuffed! Weve paid more at IHOP! Will DEFINITELY be going there again. Kyoto, youve got yourself a life-long advocate!
