We seem to get back over to this restaurant about every 3 to 6 months because it is a little bit of a drive. Poppy and Mommy were there. It is definitely a Mom and Pop shop with Pop behind the counter and Mom at a table in the dining area trying to figure out the business program on her laptop. We were the only ones in the shop at three oclock when we ordered our large specialty meat pizza. After 30 minutes and no pizza, Pop came over with some free moz triangles and marinara sauce apologizing with an explanation of pressing the wrong button and our pizza not being done. That was a nice gesture as we were starving for our first meal of the day. The specialty meat pizza with extra cheese came directly from the oven to our table with steaming fumaroles and vapor wafting into the air. Giving the molten mass a few minutes to cool down, we gingerly took a bite of the stringy moz and italian meats which were good with just the right amount of tasty sauce. We each ate two slices of the "giant" large pizza and the rest came home for another meal. Mom and Pop as well as Son (the cook) told us that they hoped we had enjoyed the pizza, and we had. Still have yet to make the lunch buffet.

We placed an order through the Slice app last night around 8:00pm. It was our first time trying Poppys. The estimated delivery time was approx. 60 minutes. Did I mention it was pouring rain due to Hurricane Harvey? About 9pm I called to find out the status and the staff at Poppys confirmed that my order was about to leave the store...the problem was, one of the items was incorrect! Rather than a large supreme pizza, our order was taken as a large veggie pizza. My family was initially really disappointed but we were starving and too impatient for a new pizza to be baked. :) The delivery driver arrived shortly after my call, and considering the rain and road conditions, I felt a little over an hour of waiting was impressive. Our family was SUPER impressed with the veggie pizza, and we look forward to ordering again from Poppys. I received a call today from a staff member who advised the next time we order we will get our Supreme pizza for free due to the mixup last night. I really appreciate the restaurant calling to make things right amidst the rain, terrible driving conditions and cranky customers. Give this place a try, I know we will be ordering again for sure!!!

11/20/2015 Edit: Just wanted to say, once again, great pizza! Prices the same as what you would find at any of the major chains but the quality is much better. If youve got the need for some NY pizza, this is the place to go. Exceptional pizza! Ive been in SA for 2 years and tried the other "best" pizza places but stumbled onto Poppys after getting fed up with the poor service at a well-known pizza place across the street. The price is fair, not bargain basement cheap but certainly not expensive. The taste is what will bring me back! The sauce has a great flavor to it and the dough is fresh. I tried taking a small home but it didnt survive the ride back. I started eating it in the parking lot and didnt stop until it was gone!

If you are one of those people that say "Yeah this place is good but I really like (insert sloppy pizza chain restaurant here)" THEN YOU DONT DESERVE THIS PIZZA. The pizza here is very good and the large is very large (only the crust is a little on the hard side). Ive been looking for good New York-style pizza ever since I left New England and this place is pretty dang good. I had two special requests for my pies that werent on the menu, but they kindly obliged. Thats how you know this is a good place. If you ask for a dang meatball pizza, they make you a meatball pizza. BONUS: Owned by a former Marine. Be sure to thank him for his service and ask about their military discount.

Pizza was okay, now Im a pizza lover this is all I literally eat, wasnt nothing special about this one, wouldve picked up little ceasers or anywhere else if I could have, heard talk from one of the workers "thank god I dropped the pizza" now idk if Im raking it out of context but my girlfriend and I were the only two eating pizza at the time in the store, so we were pretty shocked from what we were hearing, once we started leaving, was given dirty looks from women who made the comment about dropping a pizza and it being good to do so, so yeaah, will not be coming back take your money else where, if I could get my 28 dollars back from the large pizza and 2 drinks I would

Came here with a Groupon for the buffet and was so good. Very cool folks behind the counter and great food. The buffet doesnt come with a big variety but what they do have (pasta, spaghetti, salad and pizza)was really good and savory. Will definatly be coming even if there are no more groups for this place. PS: The pizza that comes with your buffet I think comes with 3 slices and is put out on the buffet so just be aware. But if youre slices are eaten up by the rest of the patrons they are nice enough to give you more so no need to get upset. Its a different concept but i think it works well to keep a good variety of pizzas on the buffet. I had no problem with it.

The Verdict : Iv gotten the chance to eat here a few times, hardly ever go out for pizza but if I had to chose a place to go for some Italian Food " Poppys Pizza" would definitely be the spot to go to. Though the names says "Pizza" in it, They have the best meatball subs and mozzarella triangles Iv ever tasted. I have yet to try the wings however, I am most certain; enough to say that, they would be delicious! Great atmosphere, family oriented, great staff, great menu. Nothing but good things for Poppys Pizza! Highly Recommend this Restaurant! Comments: They need to deliver across all of san antonio and open more locations lol.

Eww. I ordered a greek salad and breadsticks from UberEats recently. The salad was good if only I couldve eaten it with italian dressing like I requested. Instead, I receieved an oily mixture of herbs. Great, now I get to eat my salad bare with oily breadsticks. The bowl of breadsticks were literally swimming in oil. After taking a bite, oil spewed out. Disturbing experience. I requested Poppys again for the high reviews regarding their salty pizza and cheesecake. Guess what crunchy item I found in my cheesecake...? No, please, guess. I dont know what it is, but Im its not part of the general ingredient list for cheesecake.

Wish I could review the food, as we have been wanting to try Poppys for awhile now. We placed an order online at 7:10pm. I called at 7:24 to check to see what the rough estimate was so that I could make sure to be at the door as to not wake the baby. The lady informed me that it would be about 30 minutes. At 8:15, I called again to find out what was happening with our order and was told it was leaving in 5 minutes. When 8:45 rolled around, I called once again and spoke with manager Jeff to cancel my order. No explanation was given, just a quick "I apologize, we will issue the refund." Extremely disappointing.
