B&D Ice House now joins a very short list of fairly decent to actually pretty good, if not great, BBQ in the San Antonio area. Ill start with the ribs, my least favorite choice. The ribs seemed to have decent-enough quality, and smoked well enough. That part was done right. It didnt fall of the bones, but tore easily enough. However, the Big Red marinade is disgusting. It felt like I was eating Big Red. Im all for sweet ribs, but Big Red is an artificial, chemical concoction. It is not honey, molasses, cane sugar, or anything nice. Its garbage, and it tasted like garbage as well. The sausage was quite above average. Juicy, meaty, decent snap, and tasty. Ive had better, even here in San Antonio, but Ive had far worse. The brisket was the star of the show, and its so refreshing to see brisket done well when nearly no place in town can manage halfway decent brisket. The brisket had a clear smoke ring, the bark was delicious but not crispy, unfortunately, and the meat was tender and moist for the most part. The flavor was something Ive had to go outside of San Antonio to get, and it could possibly compete with Harmons in Cibolo and probably overtakes The Smoke Shack (Congers). (It doesnt touch Franklins, just to be clear...). The BBQ Sauce was a tomato-based sauce with the right touch of sweetness and great spice. Its one of the best BBQ sauces Ive had in San Antonio. In short, B&D Ice House seems like the real deal (other than the ribs). It joins the short list of other places in and around San Antonio I would recommend such as (Congers) The Smoke Shack and Harmons BBQ. Franklins in Austin is still the best BBQ, by far, Ive every had, however.

I am a believer! I had previously given B&D an average review as there was an issue with the brisket & ribs. Well they saw my FB post and invited me back to let make up for the problem meats. And make up they did! The brisket was tender & juicy with great flavor and the ribs melted in your mouth. I now see why all the raves for B&D - the meats are fantastic and the sides are wonderful. Clearly a lot of love was put into the recipes. I cant say enough how impressed I am with their handling of this! ***UPDATE AT BOTTOM****After reading all of the great reviews I was very excited to try this place. A friend & I were there when they opened and bought a variety of things to go. The brisket & the ribs were both dry & over cooked - so disappointing - especially for the money we spent. The flavors were good, the chicken & sausage were both good and the sides were excellent - way better than most barbeque places. The most disappointing thing is it HAD to apparent to the guys packing our orders that the meat was dry & overdone - yet they gave it to us any way. ***UPDATE*** OK - So I am impressed - within a couple of hours of posting on their FB this was posted on my page: "B&D Ice House Thank you for your feedback Christi. Sorry you felt our smoked meats were not top notch. We do smoke fresh briskets & ribs on a daily basis to ensure only the freshest bbq makes it to your order. Our dedicated staff is commited to making sure you have a fantastic dining experience. Feel free to stop on in 7 days a week and we will make it right for ya. Hope to see ya real soon.

We picked this placed based off the overall review score from this site. I dont know what these reviews are based on, but if this is what people call good Texas bbq...I dont think I want to ever eat Texas bbq again. First, the prices are ridiculous. I believe the reviews stated only 1 $. Not true. Second, the brisket had little to no flavor at all. The sauce didnt even help (and really of you have to put sauce on meat...it not worth eating). Third, the ribs had more flavor than the brisket, but kind of dry. The one shining light of goodness was the beans. The beans were very good. They had a very unique flavor I could not identify, but nonetheless, outstanding. Lastly, our order consisted of 1/2 lb brisket, 3 ribs, beans, mac n cheese, a beer, and water. The tab was $28. Doesnt sound like a one $ price tag kind of place to eat to me.

I may never try another piece of brisket anywhere again just because I dont want to experience the impending disappointment after slurping down those wonderful succulent slices of meaty greatness. Their BBQ sign is hand painted, the benches are old and warped, the dude working the front is constantly busting his ass and is super friendly. You might have to stay on top of your order, but its well worth it. This was the stuff of goodness right here. And this is probably the first time in my life that Ive had baked beans that I actually enjoyed. Absolutely incredible.

Who woulda thunk it, a real Texas BBQ joint right in the heart of South Town. If you are looking for a real Texas Q experience then you dont have to look any further. Authentic, old time barbecue restaurant -nothing fancy here. Lots of Texas beer choices, including many craft beers on draft. With top-notch meat smoked on site, and Bob Wills playing in the background this is the real deal. It will certainly be the only place for me when its time for Q. Thanks to Vincent and Spencer for serving up a memorable meal.

Were always looking for out of the way/local places so when we visited San Antonio, we did the same. B&D didnt disappoint. We walked from our hotel near the Riverwalk and were there in no time. The brisket was really good and the ribs outstanding. When BBQ is good, it doesnt need the sauce. B&Ds did not need sauce (although the sauce is pretty good, too.) Mac and chees for the side was a good twist to an old standby. Good beer selection and the guys running the place were helpful and a lot of fun.

Excellent brisket (be sure to order it "moist" for some extra fat and flavor in it) and delicious BBQ sauce to pour on it if thats your thing. Try the Bruno sandwich - its chopped beef on a bun, with BBQ sauce, cole slaw, and their TO DIE FOR green chile mac n cheese. OMG. Theres limited indoor seating, so if the weather is rough, you might have to wait to sit. Otherwise, there are plenty of available picnic tables outside.

Phenomenal food. Came to San Antonio on a vacation and was in the mood for authentic Texas BBQ, this was one of the highest rated places in the area, and it didnt disappoint at all. The Brisket was fork tender, the Jalapeño Mac n Cheese was spicy and nicely textured, and the banana pudding (with real banana slices) sealed the deal on my satisfaction. Ill most certainly go back before my flight leaves tomorrow.

I tried sausage, chicken, brisket, mac and cheese, and BBQ beans. The sausage and beans were some of the best Ive had. Everything else was good. The portions for everything were on the small side and it was a bit pricy. You even had to pay 54 cents for pickles. The selection of beer is good, but was pricy and small in portion just like the food. The beer is $6-$7 a glass for what seemed like less than a pint.
