I just ate at city base not more than 30 minutes ago. A little background first, I stopped eating at Armadillos (McCullough Ave) for roughly 8 months because the food was soo greasy and I was tired of sending food back. But we went back a month ago (McCullough Ave) and the food was once again awesome.. So we tried the City Base today since it is closer to my home. Well Im assuming the original cook from McCullough is here..The food was sooooo greasy that i was unable to taste the meat! The Onion rings were dark from being soaked in grease and still dripping and soft to the touch. I ate a quarter of the burger and My girlfriend left more than half of hers..and we did not bother with the onion rings. We politely asked for the check ( since Ive been down this road with them) and paid for the inedible food. This is unfortunate because Armadillos is capable of making such a great burger. I will say that enjoying there burgers is a hit and miss based on their cooks...It would be awesome if I knew the name of the great cook who is currently at mccullough location.

I went to armadillo last with my brother and cousin, the total order was 2 cheeseburgers and a chicken fried steak. We first came because of the high Google reviews of the food which quite frankly did not live up to the expectation at all. The patties of the burger tasted like they were preheated and almost near cafeteria quality. As for the chicken fried steak we all had a bite and concluded that it was very hard to chew and resembled the taste of rubber and to top that off the meal itself came on a paper plate.Due to the quality of the food I had to take a trip to the restroom and as soon as i opened the door I saw a cockroach behind the toliet which was the deciding factor for us to leave the establishment, and if changes arent made we will certainly not be back

This is quite possibly my favorite burger joint in the whole city, there are no gimmicks or games with these burgers, just fresh hot and juicy patties the right amount of fat and juice in every bite the tots, rings and fries are always crispy, the food is always out quick and staff friendly. If you are ever in the downtown area and in the mood for a real burger this is a must.

My wife and I eat Pearls almost every weekend maybe more sometimes. Its amazing were not fat.Place is awesome.The burgers are so good.They have Buffalo and Kobe beef burgers, which are great, but just a straight burger there is my favorite. Shakes are solid too. Staff also great. Cash only is a downside, but that slight inconvenience should not stand in anyones way.

Service was fast but not very attentive. The fried pickles were tough, like they had been sitting under a heat lamp then reheated. The tator tots were soaking in grease... they also tasted like bacon... did they deep fry bacon?! What?! After all the reviews, I was expecting a great juicy burger... that wasnt the case. I was very disappointed in this "burger joint".

We drove past this place but turned around and came back and glad we did! Food was awesome as well as the service and the atmosphere! Our food came out after about 10 minutes if that and the staff constantly came by checking on us. I highly recommend this place if youre looking for a good burger and a relaxed place to hang out! I think we found a hidden gem

Went there for a quick bite while waiting for my wife to get out of surgery. They cook up a great burger. The menu is to the point and the options are terrific. They offer giant 1 1/2lb burgers also 3lb double for the adventurous eater. Theyve got wings, salads, etc... I was very pleased and the service was great too.

Awesome cheeseburger and cheesy nachos today. There was white and American cheese on the nacho and it was tasty. This was my first time here and was very happy with the food and service. I saw one of the 3 pound burgers but its too big for me so I had a half pound burger. Ill be back again soon for the mushroom burger

Horrrible service they sat us down, didnt offer to ask what drinks we wanted...waited 10min until someone came to ask if we have been helped, then had to call over a waiter to get an order taken. DAMN SHAME and we were sitting in clear view to been noticed that we have not been helped. Never coming here again.

Good reasonably-priced burgers and dog-friendly terrace, friendly waitstaff. Ask them to unlock the outside gate if you bring your dog. Watch out for the two potted six-foot-high cactuses just outside the terrace, dont walk into one as I did once, very sharp spines! Surprised no one has been blinded yet!

Ordered the burger with bacon, pretty good. Nothing wrong with it meat tasted like if it was actually homemade and grilled. The thing that sucked was that they took FOREVER to give us our food. The staff were nice, I wish I didnt have to put my own mayonnaise or mustard on my burger though.

Just picked up food from there. The fish was not cooked all the way. The cornmeal batter is still raw. The fries are old & cold. The fish itself is a generous portion, too bad its a waste. My sons chicken strips are hard enough to knock somebody out. Thanks for helping me to waste my money.

This was the first Id been there and I tried the mushroom and swiss burger with chili cheese fries. They were both delicious and the service was great. Limited seating though so if you dont like sitting next to strangers while you eat, maybe eat outside at the picnic tables.

Most underrated burger in town. They kept the menu pretty close to the old Little Hipps, which is fantastic. Order the tater tots with your burger and definitely get the shy poke eggs, which are cheese nachos with yellow and white cheese that looks like a sunny side up egg.

This place has to be my favorite burger place in San Antonio yet! The bean and cheese nachos are good, the frys taste like homemade deliciousness, the wings are awesome, and the burgers are bomb! Definitely would come here again. A San Antonio must when I visit!

Excellent service! Food is really good too! The area seems a little ghetto and the outside looks like its a hole in the wall. But hey, places like that usually have great burgers. Lol! The inside was a pleasant surprise! Texas oriented and Starz abundant!!

Very good burgers, pretty cheap and great service. 9 year old said best burger ever. Only downsides in the gun toting proud American side of me were the owners placarded ban on concealed or open carry and the lack of military discount.

These burgers were AMAZING!!! I love eating a good burger anywhere I can. Ive tried 54th Streets, Chillis and Apple Bees and none of them compare to Armadillos! Looks like Cris Madrids and Mad Macks Burgers got some good competition!

I decided to take my family today. the service is fantastic and the food was very delicious. these burgers are definitely Genuine! I will be bringing my family here vey often from now on. oh, and the price is very reasonable.
