Dont let the location fool you, despite being in a humble strip center near Kroger in Rockwall, Basil Cafe is a 5 star standout that will absolutely impress you if you give them a chance. The sushi here was VERY fresh and reasonably priced. The service was fantastic, with the kind waitress knowing just when to come by and bother you and refill your drinks. The menu had a nice varied selection of items. The atmosphere here is small, cozy and upscale. Reminded me of eating at the little joints in New York City. Very cool. This is a fantastic spot for a business dinner or romantic date. For you parents reading, they even have a high chair. We had to bring our 2 year old with us (yes, we are those people) and it was a pleasant experience despite the upscale atmosphere. This location has had many (failed) restaurants in it before, but from what I experience Basil Cafe has the ingredients to break the curse. Try it with confidence.

Like many recent Yelp reviews on Basil Cafe (which is apparently not reflected thus far on any Google reviews), I do not understand the overwhelming love for this place. The sushi is average and prices are medium to high. This restaurant is not bad--but neither is it outstanding. It is a run-of-the-mill sushi place. My wife and I ate the following: (i) dumpling soup (no flavor), (ii) pork buns (decent--get if you like mushrooms), (iii) volcano roll (pretty good roll) and (iv) salmon and tuna rolls (the raw fish was room temperature and mushy). I feel like this is a 3-3.5 star restaurant at best.

Very delicious had the soup dumplings very savory.... next the pork sandwiches super tender mushrooms super delicious. Had the mango salmon wrap loved them!!! And for desert there green tea ice cream and a similar nanner fried Brule. I am definetly going back service was incredible had three people tend to us

Great date lunch with the better half! Really nice atmosphere, great service, and really tasty food. I had the Salmon Thai Curry and loved each bite. The lunch plate had a really nice variety as well. It is a small place so I bet it gets busy quick for dinner, but well worth a visit.

The Rockwall Roll and Indian Pancake are a must for your first time here. Who would have thought one of the best sushi places in DFW would be at small fusion place in Rockwall? I might not have to drive into North Dallas anymore for amazing sushi or Thai dishes.

Great service, beautiful place and great food. I had the pineapple fried rice with shrimp and it was delicious, served in a half pineapple shell with very well prepared shrimp. Place is immaculate and really nice ambiance.

Got the sushi for two, and thoroughly enjoyed it! Great service and atmosphere. Presentation was beautiful. Miso soup was delicious. Oh, and I highly recommend the Indian Pancakes appetizer. I will definitely be back.
