We visited here for Sunday lunch buffet with a friends family. The restaurant is right in the middle of a busy office area in Richardson and we assumed it should be good. 1. The food presentation was bad. 2. No focus on making sure food is hot in a buffet. 3. Naan and Dosa are NOT made hot for you. They are pre-cooked and kept on the buffet counter for pick up. I have not seen any other good restaurant charging $13.99 for an adult buffet doing this mistake. Breads should never be served stale and cold. Restaurants need to learn it. 4. There are lots of items on the buffet just to justify the high buffet price tag. The focus on quality was clearly lost. 5. I spoke to the person on register and his explanation for high price was the high number of items. It is actually a trap for a consumer. An average adult is never going to eat all of the items and hence, more items just mean more profit for the restaurant. As a consumer, you might feel good after seeing hundreds of food options, but, in reality, you will not get your moneys worth. 6. Ample sitting space is a plus. 7. I was impressed with the restaurant using newest technology (Apple systems), tablets to take the payment, signing directly on the register screen and all that fancy stuff. I hope they show the same kind of advancement in their food taste and quality to win more customers. 8. I am from Delhi, but I still love South Indian food and must say that there are many better options available. 9. The texture of the food was so bad that I did not feel like even picking up chicken biryani and putting it in my plate. 10. We visited the place around 12.30 PM when the food is supposed to fresh, but some of items like Veg biryani (more of peas Pulav), looked stale. 11. Curd rice was the only savior for me. But, my friend did like the Goat Liver and Fried fish. I did not try those simply because, they did not look that good, just by looking. 12. Restaurants have to understand that one eats first with eyes, nose and then mouth. 13. As a north Indian vegetarian, you might just find yourself short of options as the only sabzi worth trying was Paneer tikka masala. 14. Desserts had Sewaiyan (good), Beetroot Halwa(okay), Mysore Pak (okay), fruit custard (okay), rice kheer(okay). As a matter of fact, I ate more of sewayain than the food that I came in to eat.

We went to this restaurant around three weeks back for lunch buffet with my better half and 10 month old son. I had heard good things only about them after this experience only came to know theres another branch in Frisco and didnt know two branches can be that far apart in terms of food. Once we reached there, one gentleman came and told us there would be 30 minutes wait time since theres a party going on and after that he came back again and accompanied by another gentleman and they both invited us inside. We were really happy and impressed to see their hospitality. They asked us to take all we can from the buffet and we were really pleased even though they were busy they could accommodate us Then came the downsides, the foods were almost gone. The foods were party extras!!! Biriyani rice was so dry it felt like raw. They took out few pieces of appetizers in a plate from kitchen all were cold and broken pieces of kebabs and fish. They even served us a bowl of mutton Kurma which was again extra I guess. In summary most of the things were gone or cold. They should have carried on with the party and told us we will not be able to serve us. And after that we saw they let 3-4 people in to eat the same food we were having, imagine what they would eat that day :( at the end they charged full for this buffet and when my wife told the person who was taking our check that the food was cold and most of them were finished he didnt seemed to bother to justify. We left disappointed that day.. So heres the review I was trying to write for a long time. Thanks for reading..

After hearing from some of my colleagues that "Chennai Cafe" has opened another branch near Richardson, we had decided that we will give it a shot today. We were a group of 3 and it took us around 5 minutes to get the table, considering it was during peak lunch hours (1pm on Friday). By the time we got to the buffet line most of the items were empty. So we started with what was available and 15 minutes later when we went for 2nd round, those items were still empty. For a place that claims to offer "Grand Buffet", it was neither grand nor was it buffet. Since we were on the clock, we couldnt wait for any longer and had to leave. Apart from the food even the service was pretty bad. Our tables were cleaned along with the silver ware, which was never replaced. To add to it they didnt have any extra silver ware near the buffet line. Same with the napkins. It is a common practice to replace napkins/silverware with new ones when the old are taken away. Somehow that was missing here. We were expecting something similar to the service and food offered by the Frisco outlet of the same chain, but it was a very disappointing experience. Overall I will stick with my 2 star rating for now and will update my review if and when I visit this place. PS: This review is 3 weeks old. Just posted on google reviews from Yelp. The manager was kind enough to give us a discount and charge only for 2 people. But this still doesnt make up for the quality of service. Hoping for a better experience next time.

I had planned my kids birthday party at Chennai cafe, Richardson. Place was booked for 2 weeks in advance for 35 people. Advance amount was paid too. Everything (menu, time, price) was discussed, agreed and noted. On the day of the event, when I called them few hours before to check if I can come a bit early for decoration. To my surprise they had FORGOT about the event. REALLY?? I had to rush in to check. I was told that it was my mistake that I had not reminded them of the event earlier even though everything was written and booking amount paid in well in advance. On top of this their owner Binoy was super rude and arrogant. Now the event started and after some time comes in the owner and says he is super tired and want to leave. So I had to pay the remaining amount right away (when the party is still on). There is more to it. He even charged for the kids aged 2 - 4 years. This now started to freak me. When I asked him why kids are being charged, he told me that IF YOU MAKE SURE THAT YOUR KIDS (2 - 4 years) DO NOT EAT A SINGLE BITE, ILL NOT CHARGE ANYTHING FOR THEM. This was super rude. Really bad customer service. Though the food was ok, but all this left a bad taste on my special day. Really not going to this restaurant again. Again customer service SUCKS!!

This is my first review ever. I never thought that I will write a bad review about anything. But today evening experience at chennai cafe richardson was the worst. We went there for dinner around 9.30. There were hardly 4-5 other tables occupied. We were seated as soon as we entered. Then we waited for 15 mins for someone to get the order. No one even came to gave water. Then we asked a guy to take order and give atleast water. He told he will send another guy. Then we waited for 15 more minutes and no one turned in. From the look of other 2 families there I understood that they were waiting for more than that. Appreciate their patience. We just left from there. First time in our life we walked out of any restaurant. After this we went to another restaurant near by and we got our food in 15 minutes. I dont have an option to give zero stars. Wish to see a review from whoever else was present there at that time.
