Coming from Texas, Im well versed in barbecue, and though I understand that regional variations exist in the Q, there still that picture in my mind of what a barbecue place should be.
You should be able to smell the food from miles around. Open pits arent a requirement for good barbecue - I would use an enclosed solution at home, for example - but in a restaurant setting, theres such a disconnect between my idea of barbecue and the sterile, open kitchens which contain the smokers somewhere in the back.
I ordered a pulled pork sandwich. They were offering a Carolina-style version on special, which came with a "tangy" coleslaw served on top. What I received was a nicely toasted bun with their standard pulled pork* - an adequate, though sometimes a little dry affair with moderate bark and no smoke ring that I could see. I was expecting the worst with a thick, heavy, and sweet sauce, but Hog Wild exercised a good deal of restraint here, which I appreciated. The coleslaw was your standard supermarket product and not particularly more tangy than any others Ive tried, though Carolina style is less about the coleslaw and more about the vinegar-based sauces. I didnt really expect the restaurant to get this aspect of the barbecue correct, and I think it was more of just a re-employment of things they had lying around.
*As an aside, if theres one thing I think the Texans have wrong about barbecue, its the choice of cow rather than the pig. I understand that cows (rather than pigs)were abundant in the Lone Star state and vice-versa for every other states.
The curly fries were rarely more than slightly curved, but they were pretty standard and underwhelming. I should have tried some more standard sides, like the beans, but it wasnt meant to be (read: it was lunchtime and I didnt want to).
When I moved into the middle of the barbecue belt, I was expecting a lot from Wichita. Unfortunately, Hog Wild didnt meet my expectations. The food was serviceable, sure, but there has to be something else in the River City.

We keep going back to Hog Wild because the meat is so good. Before I go, I try to get pumped up to enjoy something different, but I nearly always get the rib dinner. The dinner is a half slab, some grilled Texas toast (not bad) and two sides for only pennies more than just the half-slab by itself. Sometimes when Im avoiding carbs, I just order some brisket by the half pound. I also like their hot links. All of their meats are tasty. The down side is that the sides are not the best. The fries are so-so, mashed potatoes seem to be instant ones, and the cole slaw is bought wholesale instead of being made there. The baked beans are okay, but they are nothing special, either. With my aforementioned rib dinner, I usually order two sides of beans. There are other BBQ joints in town that have pretty good meats and much better sides. Once is a while Ill go to one, but it is hard to beat the ribs at Hog Wild.

Stopped in last Friday during a tour of homes in the area. What a great surprise. My only complaint was that I ordered a two meat platter for lunch and my wife ordered a single meat platter and she got significantly more food than I did for a couple bucks less. But all of the food was delicious, well prepared, properly hot and properly cold, and the coleslaw was clean and crisp and slightly sweet, just the way I love it. We decided to buy a home nearby and we will likely use Hog Wild as our go-to restaurant in the area. Well done!

The food is normally great, but the past few times Ive been the fries have been extremely soggy. I use to love the crisp and now its gone. Then on top of that today when I went in, I normally go through the drive thru, and they gave me all kinds of rudeness about where to go to get barbecue sauce. I was told by an employee there one thing and then kept being told something different by other employees. Your drive thru staff is always so nice but your restaurant staff inside is extremely rude.

Just moved to Wichita from Chicago, we stopped at Hog Wild to get a taste of Kansas BBQ. I ordered the 2 meat dinner (ribs and beef brisket) and the person I was with ordered chicken and brisket. The ribs and brisket were delicious, the chicken, while the flavor was great, it was rather dry, could chalk that up to us getting there at around 1830. Overall the atmosphere was great, the food was great and the price was great. Definitely will be coming back here again.

No way, we wont go back. We ordered beef brisket at the drive through and when we got home we found a fly in it. Not a fresh fly, one that had been there for awhile, one that apparently drowned in barbecue sauce. When we returned the food to the restaurant we went inside and low and behold there were flies all over the kitchen, landing on everything, on exposed meat and fixings. The manager didnt seem to care either. Get some fly tape people...

Prices are reasonable, atmosphere quiet yet constant radio reminders of the business is a bit much. The dining area was clean but limited space in the restroom department for larger crowds. Workers not overly friendly on my visit but may have been tired from long work day. Ribs did "melt" off the bone though. Rating of three because nothing really jumped out at you different from other rib locations.

The meats were good, but not special. The sides were bland except the baked beans. The sauce was sweet and the hot version was not hot. However, the hot links were spicy, and good. For drive thru food its great. But I wouldnt go out of my way to come back. The restaurant was clean, service was fine, prices were fair, portions were fair too. Everything about this restaurant was average.

I have been to Hog Wild a few times and have to say that the BBQ there is really pretty good. But the customer service there is horrendous :( No personality, not very polite, and most of the people working behind the counter seem to really not care about what they are doing. The atmosphere would be enhanced 10fold if the customer service was worked on a little bit.

No star, is most accurate. Ribs were nasty and 90% fat....2 small bites of meat and the rest was bone and fat, couldnt stomach the second one as it sat in a quarter inch of grease. I asked for Dry ribs, so they apparently wiped the sauce off and returned them. Lol...I guess thats a "Dry" rib!

I got a baked potato with ham and it was delish!!! Husband got the rib dinner and he said it was really good. The portion was larger then expected. Baked beans were awesome!! They need to work on the macaroni and cheese...it wasnt great at all. Texas toast was yummy!!

Worst bbq I ever had. My children didnt care for it either. Only thing was hot were the baked beans. The turkey and pulled pork was so dried out. And the ribs were so greasy and fatty. The worst of the worst. Wont be going ever again.

Good food and very clean. Went over lunch and it was very quick we had barely got our drinks and sat down at the table amd our order was ready. Had the 1 meat dinner, with turkey. It was moist and delicious.
