I have been eating real Peruvian food all of my life since I am a native Peruvian. I have lived in all regions in Peru, meaning Coast, Mountain and Jungle so I can say I know Peruvian food. I am not sure where all these other comments come from saying this is a real deal when it is not. I ordered a Jalea Mixta. First of all, it was a pile of a bunch of things where you could hardly recognize what you were eating. The fish was almost wet since it was mixed up with the diced onions (which we call sarza) and it was too juicy, therefore it made a mess of the soft texture fish in the Jalea. Then I ordered a Bisteck a lo Pobre. I have no idea where the cook has learned to do this, but it was so poorly presented and done. The rice was completely dry, there were a million French fries as if by having more fries would make it better, the plaintain was way too thick and soggy, the egg was as if it had been deep fried in a gallon of oil. Bisteck a lo Pobre usually comes with a hot dog as well, the hot dog itself, not with the bun of course, but this one did not have it. I think there was no more room for it. It seems they believe in quantity over quality. Then we ordered also a Pescado Frito. It was so tasteless, I have no idea if the cooks know how to use condiments. It lacked of flavor and presentation again. The chicha morada was decent, not great, but decent. The hot sauces (ajies) were presented in these things I dont even know how to call them. One of them (the rocoto one) was almost water. Way too runny. The waitress was very nice and attentive. That I will give to them. But if they want to present authentic Peruvian food, they have so much to learn.

This is an amazing restaurant but excellent service does not seem to be consistent. I had never been compelled to write a review for a restaurant until I went to this one. The food was great and the service was out of this world! The owner is very friendly and was so nice to us. We didnt know what to get for dessert and he offered us some samples of cookies and even gave us a few free Peruvian candies. I wanted to come back very soon. I do advise that you go when the place is not so packed though. Went mothers day and it took forever to get our orders taken. When our drinks were finally taken to us, you could clearly see much of the ice had already melted.... Then they tell us certain food items were not available because they had ran out since earlier in the day... And our food took over an hour and a half to get to us. We were so hungry!! And I got upset that they didnt bring out our tables food all at the same time. I got my plate first before anyone else and didnt want to start until everyone else had their food but I was so hungry. We were only a table of 5 as well.. Honestly, it is a great restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere and great service but I guess you kind of have to get lucky to go at the "right time".

I went here because I received a Groupon as a gift. Ive never had Peruvian food before but I would absolutely go here again!! The guy who served us was so friendly and I think he might have been the only person working at the time. Even if he was, he was still so cheerful and happy to serve us. We ordered Lomo Saltado with Carne, Cau - Cau, and a pesto pasta dish with steak. the 3 plates fed 4 people which was more than enough- huge portions! and it was all SO GOOD. we all agreed we would come back even without a Groupon because it was excellent. Then we ordered alfajores for dessert, which is basically a cookie. it was really good! Our server brought us a mango drink to try which was also phenomenal. I wish I ordered that with my meal from the get go. I dont even write reviews of places but this place deserves higher ratings after the experience I just had there last night!

the place wasnt so busy when we first got there but as time passed it got packed. i asked what was going on since we have Never seen it so busy and owner let us know it was Peruvian independence day. i have no complaints from my handful of previous visits but this particular day was Awful. we waited forever to order, when we ordered we were first told they were out of papa rellenas then later told they had them.then we wanted to order something else so we Tried ordering but owner said it would be a while before he could put our ticket in b/c a Big family came in and ordered so we waited. we asked half hr later if hed placed our order and he said no he couldnt yet bc of the big order. 20 mins later were asked to Leave bc they needed the table for another family. all this took place w/the owner. i truly we were discriminated against for not being Peruvian.

The experience started out OK. The owner seemed happy to see us at first; however, his true personality and his lack of understanding of customer service became unpleasantly obvious when I tried to pay with a gift certificate which I bought with money. There were two of us presenting 2 separate certificates and he said he would not accept one of them, even if we paid separately, which was against his agreement with the company from which we bought the certificates from. when we insisted, he kept refusing and developing an attitude. We gave him the certificate he did not accept, in addition to the payment, and told him that we would never ever visit again. He did not seem to mind our decision, so please be warned before you go and waste your energy getting upset at this joint. We really had to try hard to not get upset.

Wow. Its...OK. Not bad but not good either. If you want home cooking Peruvian style, this place is for you. If youre Peruvian its REALLY for you. El Tesoro is not high dining by any stretch of the imagination. I just felt like I could have made any of the dishes we had at home and made them better. Its not very complicated food and the spice palet is very limited. If youre expecting a version of Mexican food youll be disappointed. Avoid the rice and seafood dish. The restaurant is using frozen seafood mix like you get at the grocery store. While it gives you a mix of muscles, shrimp, scallops and squid/octopus it also makes everything taste like cheap fishy low quality seafood. But hay, if you like it then please have at it.
