I Think It Has Potential #TBD I have literally been anticipating the opening of this place for 3 months now. Ive been passing by it everyday on my commute and was so excited when I finally saw the open sign. I always love a great small burger joint! Upside To Burger Joint: Arrived at 1:47pm and there was no wait. It was very easy to place and order and access the menus. I was immediately greeted by the cashier at the bar when I walked up. They also have these really funny shirts that read: "I like big buns and I cannot lie..." Additionally, the seating and patio is very welcoming and the place is clean. Free Wifi too is an added plus. Downside: I ordered the regular burger and regular fries and it was a total of 37 mins before I received my order. Although, my onions werent grilled as I requested, the actual burger gets a B+. The bacon was over-cooked, but everything else about it was good. It appeared that many patrons waited awhile for their order based on the sighs and constant gazing towards the swinging kitchen door. The burger, fries, and cup of water ran me about $12 bucks total. I wasnt offered a receipt, so I am just assuming I wasnt overcharged. Unfortunately, my fries were stale and not very warm, so I sent them back for fresh ones. I got another basket of fries and an apology, but sadly this basket was worse than the first. I really hope they didnt just drop my originals back in hot grease because it sure tasted like it. Because I am a lover of all things burger, Id like to come back at least one more time. This was their first Friday being open and I hope some changes are made soon so that this place gets a good rap and stays open. Today, the most I can give is 2 stars for the potential.

This place was amazing. Took it on faith based off the reviews (excluding that one star review that makes zero sense). The fact that the owner takes the time to reply to both positive and negative reviews was nice to see, and actually contributed to our trying this place out. Good reviews and management that cares means a lot, and its rarely seen. From the staff to the food and venue overall, it was awesome. Yes, there is limited inside seating. However every table outside has an oversize umbrella, the TVs are in shade boxes so you can see them despite the sun, and there is a plethora of fans to keep you cool and the bugs at bay. It was 88° today (not bad at all), and even still it was perfectly comfortable outside. For an primarily outside venue, it was extremely clean. Staff actively cleaning and ensuring a nice presentable eating area, and the little bit of landscaping and shrubs combined with the music and white noise from the fans does a phenomenal job of blocking out the street noise from the busy intersection. Delicious burgers that were turned out quickly, and it wasnt exactly a slow time when we showed up. Real bacon, properly cooked. The burger itself was moist and juicy, nicely seasoned and perfectly cooked to order. I cant say enough about the burgers, theyre damn good. Cannot attest to sides and fries as we didnt have any. My only gripe is parking is... snug. However Im the one that decided to drive my family to eat here in a lifted Excursion and not the wifes subcompact. Regardless, there is parking available on the side street if the lot is full. Great place, will gladly make the drive out of my way to eat here again.

Now... if you are looking for a Ruby Tuesdays (defunct in Houston), or another fancy restaurant where they serve premium burgers: sorry folks! Youre in the wrong place. However, if you dont mind the limited parking, the (primarily) outdoor seating that you share with the crows -- who by the way, eye your food, and wait for a chance to steal it -- come on in! Now, in spite of the crows, who look at you and tell you, "You ARE going to give me some of your food, arent you?" the burgers and the fries are ON POINT: juicy, tasty burgers, with lots of variations on the theme (theres even a greek lamb burger which has all the trimmings of a good gyro). The fries hit the spot: I got the Bacon-Parm fries, which are covered in a cheesy/savory sauce that made me abandon my diet, and indulge. (Sigh!) I guess Ive gained back a pound or two...a decadent indulgence which was well worth it! (aaaaahhh) But, everything on the menu looked good -- even the messy (according to some reviews) Kimchi burger -- and there are many more choices Id like to try. Even the hot dogs looked very tasty. So, if you want a cazh, yet friendly place to hang out (inside or outside) -- and here in Houston, if the suns shining, its warm -- this little joint is definitely worth check out. Good for the kiddos, as well. So for all you "Wimpys out there, who appreciate a good burger (for which Ill gladly pay you Tuesday -- if you recognize that, youve been around for a while -- ) and the choice of good local brews, shakes, salads and even a veggie burger, then *run*, dont walk (and preferably drive (or better yet, take an Uber) to this piece of burger heaven.

Just went for the first time, and per the lady behind the bars suggestion I ordered the turkey bacon burger with a side of mac. Was a little worried about ordering a burger outside the classic condiments and ending up with a Hubcap-esque experience, where although it was good I probably would never eat it again. However, the lady knew what she was talking about and I would eat that hipster burger any day of the week. My culinary senses arent the greatest, but I think they use real cheese in their cheese and mac, which is more than I can say for some of these other places and their use of velveta on things like chili cheese fries. I realize its not an apples to apples comparison, but just wanted to illustrate they pay attention to and dont compromise on the details. I definitely enjoy the gritty, classic burgeria atmosphere of a place like House of Fries over the is that a valet at a burger place? atmosphere of The Burger Joint, but then again Im in the make less than $30,000 living in the Heights minority who doesnt desire such fancyness. I would say that their boasting of having the best burger in town is plausible. Barring further research I would put them above Hubcap, but Im not sure yet who wins between The Burger Joint and House of Fries. But burger to burger is what counts, and if I ever want a burger after 4 pm (I guess actually being open counts too), so far The Burger Joint will be my best option.

Sometimes food taste better behind a great story. A story of humble beginings or small start ups winning one for the struggling small business. I dig the vibes here. Walking in the completely newly renovated location there is a feeling of good times and cool people behind the bar and in the kitchen. From the classic burger menu with a local twist to the wall of craft beers The Burger Joint already sets itself apart from competitors. It is also mostly outdoors with an amazing patio. Obviously rain will kill the experience then again it is Houston and rain will ruin anything right? Explosions of flavor is the best way to describe the burgers. Having broken buns here a few times I like the classic double with my own additions. Bacon, chedder, just so much yum. The Smoke Stack Burger is not sure much burger but has this bbq-ness that hits my food heart strings. The Mushroom Burger is my favorite non classic burger. My favorite fries are the Bacon Parm Fries. I mean bacon makes everything just a little elevated. Not for the faint of the financial heart. It is more expensive than people are initially willing to spend on a classic American meal. Expect to spend upwards of $20 for a meal without beer. Perhaps this the the gripe that most people will have. Good ingredients are not cheap and I dont mind spending a few bucks for small biz. Remember this isnt big business...if you want to spend less than $10 you know where to go.
