My longtime friend and I visited this bar on his recommendation. I was pleasantly surprised as I didnt take him to be a craft beer enthusiast, at least certainly not to my level interest. i have long been a fan of the craft beer scene in Texas, especially in recently years, supporting breweries from all over Texas, including Karbach and Lone Pint. Our time started out well here, with great food and a variety of selection enough to begin to whet my experienced craft beer palate. Much to our dismay, after having a round of 7% ABV beers *and* food, well before midnight, we were shut off from ordering any other rounds. We had just come from the Rockets game, both outwardly demonstrating our fanhood with hats. We had intended to have 2-3 rounds of beer and food and leave via Uber - which is how we arrived, incidentally. I was willing to show both our arrival via Uber and our planned departure via Uber, but the barkeep was not having it. We were not demonstrating any drunkenly or disruptive behavior, and were having a good and measured time with our round of beers and food. This could be a Houston thing and something Im not aware of, but this service was far too limiting and severely costed this establishment what could have been a much larger tab and tip. Needless to say, we left little to no tip, as well as very dissatisfied. For their sake, I hope to see an establishment such as this get their act together and provide the type of service a Rockets fan who poses no risk (in the slightest) to the precious traffic within a few blocks of the hotel they are staying at.

Cozy space in a laid-back environment with a touch of hipster flair. Mongoose VS Cobra is a nice space to grab a few drinks with friends to enjoy your night. You can either order at the bar or have a seat at one of their long tables and a waitress will assist you with ordering. They have over 40+ beers on tap, with several from TX, largely ales or IPAs. They do have spirits and can make a few decent mixed drinks (their Old-Fashion is okay). Along with the drinks they do have a few bar foods to snack on from peanuts to bratwurst, take your pick. The environment itself, closer towards the weekend, is rather bustling and lively with mostly young adults/professionals. Overall, Mongoose VS Cobra is a really chill place to go grab a drink and converse with friends but if you want to dance better look somewhere else. Prices range from $5-10 for a drink, more for foods. Side note: parking is going to suck if you go at later times (after 9 pm) especially on weekends.

Hands down one of my favorite bars in Houston. Hence, it was quite unfortunate that I discovered this a day before I left the city! Nonetheless, we made the best of it. We were a group of 2 and got a seat at the bar. We arrived just in time for Happy hour and went on to stay till 9PM. Yes, it was THAT good. Our bartender, Andy, was absolutely fantastic. He would have us try out multiple beers to get a feel of our preferences before suggesting anything. Not to mention, he is open to making drinks that are not even on the menu! M vs C have a huge collection of beers and for the beer fanatics, this is a great place to unwind. The ambience has a very industrial yet outdoorsy local feel to it. It was packed with a lot of business professionals (could be the proximity to downtown) but also had a good number of casual drinkers. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a beer bar. Must visit! I will definitely be going back!

Cool bar. Wide selection of beer and spirits even serves a small selection of food to accompany your drinks. I ordered the cookies to go with my Mezcal. A odd pairing, I know, yet I was excited about the fresh made cookies they had on the menu. Ultimately the cookie was "ok".I shouldnt have expected this great cookie being I was at a bar. Yet, being at such a cool place I had high hopes. The cookie fell flat, from my point of view. They have awesome drinks and cocktails, but thats not why I gave it only 3 stars. The reason for 3 stars is because every time I go here there is no major crowd or feels like I am at a place to be. It almost has a somber feel to the place. If you want to be by yourself, not bothered, and want a drink? This is the place to go. If youre looking for a bar thats hopping and full of people, you might want to try a different place.

The most A-maze-ing homemade tonic! So, I arrive at Mongoose v Cobra last Wednesday for a networking happy hour type thing and I wasnt really sure what to expect. Lets just say that I arrived and left completely pleased. First, I wasnt really sure what I wanted upon arriving; so, i just went with my go to bev...vodka tonic. The server comes over with a small glass because the tonic is made in-house and she wants me to try it first. It was yummy! I loved it. So, of course, I had the vodka tonic. Its served as vodka on the rocks with a side of tonic (in an old school tonic bottle). So charming. I didnt really try much food, but there were a few things to munch on. I did try the spicy pumpkin seeds and I certainly found it to be a creative twist on the traditional. Ill definitely be going back to experience more of Mongoose v. Cobra.

First of all I will admit to possibly being biased. I am a borderline regular at this bar. It is incredibly close to me and therefore convenient. Ive also become friends with one of the bartenders. That being said, I highly recommend this establishment. The selection of micro-brew beer is large. The drink selection is out of the ordinary. The staff are friendly and very knowledgeable. Personally I really love the music played as well. It tends toward classic blues with a twist. The crowd tends to be in their thirties and forties, professional, and what I call "beer snobbish." I seem to have joined the ranks of the beer snobbery in the few months Ive been going here though.

My absolute favorite bar in Houston. I have never had a bad time. Incredible craft beer selection and amazing cocktails - the Gin & Tonic is a must! (They make their own tonic). Also, some great snacks! Get the pretzel "midnight special" or the cookies. The decor is amazing for both a date (sit in the back with the lamps) or for a big group (get a table). The staff is incredibly friendly and I always love seeing them. This place seems to attract the nicest people in midtown. After getting enough drinks in ya at Mongoose, head over to Barbarella to dance the night away.

Best bar in Midtown, hands down. The space is beautiful and theres free parking in the Greensheets lot. They are also along the METRO rail and have a Rail Ticket Buyback Program, where they will credit your tab with one round trip fare of $2.50. I tend to avoid it on the weekends, when its more crowded (and more Midtown-y). One of the best beer lists in the city, but they also make great cocktails and have Topo Chico to drink. I particularly like their food, especially the Ploughmans Pail and the Pretzel. Dig into the cheese and pickled eggs!
