I ordered to-go ribs and sausage 30 minutes prior to closing time. Atmosphere inside the restaurant seemed subdued because not many diners were eating at 6:30 PM, I guess. Typical BBQ joint where diners order while standing in queue. SOME but not all serve staff doling food onto plates either dont speak English or they were apathetic to answer questions, and the prices are well above average yet the quality did not justify the price. Please be aware that the BBQ sauce contains mustard just like a South Carolina mustard-based BBQ sauce except that Lulings sauce is spicier. I like it; however if you dont like mustard then bring your own sauce. The only sides are potato salad, slaw and pinto beans; no corn, greens or other vegetables. Also the sausage meat is bland with minimal seasoning yet its smoked thoroughly to flavor; would be nice to have well seasoned sausage to accompany great smoked flavor. No cheese inside the sausage (thank heavens). I also didnt see beer on the menu board, but the soft drinks are fountain style plus there is a small cooler behind the cashier with Big Red and Fanta grape and orange. There was a separate alcohol bar within the place so you may have to pay for alcohol separately. This meal was okay but didnt make my mouth water. It cost $50 for one person without dessert, which is a lot higher than I have been paying for decent BBQ in other places around the southeast Texas region.

I ate here today 12/13/2013 and will not be back. This was the third time I have eaten here and today was the straw that broke the camels back. Like most "quality" BBQ restaurants, they serve everything a la carte. This works from their perspective, but it royally hoses the customer. The brisket is tasty, but at $7.50 for 1/2 pound, that may be all you can get. Side orders are over $2.25 a piece!! As I told my friend... "no ones potato salad is worth that much per serving!" Add in drinks that start at over $2 and for a basic meal, you are paying $12 - $15 (tax included). Aside from the brisket, everything else is average at best... the exception being the sausage which is horrible. I have tried both kinds, beef and spicy, (separately since it costs almost $5 for one link) and although there is some flavor it is so dry that it tastes almost gritty. My friends reaction when I asked him to try it and see if I was losing my mind... "um, I didnt like it the first time I tried it and it doesnt look like much has changed". Lunch for two that costs almost $30 when all you are getting is one meat, a small side and a drink... it needs to taste much better. I am sure this place has seen greater days, but for now I would avoid it and look for something better... better for your taste buds and better for your wallet.

Impressions from last time I craved BBQ (note: this place is 5 blocks from my residence): The place is a phony, wood-interiored BBQ joint located in a strip center outside the expensive Afton oaks neighborhood near the Galleria. The noisy, crowded bar *area* -stocked with good ol boys and their younger friends- crowds the front door inside. There was a cluster of people crowding the front door outside smoking cigarettes on the "front porch." The place isnt family-oriented, or particularly friendly, to my eye, therefore. They dont serve french fries. I like french fries. Its not cheap enough or good enough to make up for all the above. This LAST time, I left, and went next door to get some takeout pizza, from PIZZA HUT. The time before that, my aunt and I got sick from eating at LCM BBQ. All done! Theres a Goode Company up the road, a Hickory Hollow within an easy drive, as well as Pappas Burger even closer. They all beat this place to heck in every way.

Found this place by accident (you know trying to avert traffic) and was not very excited by 1) the service and 2) the food. I went this weekend and when I asked about a plate or combo, they had neither. Items are sold individually which makes for an expensive meal real quick. When one pays almost $3 for a side of coleslaw that is below par it is not a good day. However, sides are just that sides, the meat I have to admit was not bad but was also not great. I got both the Beef Brisket (1/2 lb) and the Pork Ribs (2 ribs) for $16 together which was more than a generous portion but the sauce really was what made the meal. Otherwise the meats were really flavor-less granted they were smoked but tasted more of smoke than anything else. I will probably not come by again. As a first timer on an empty Saturday afternoon I was not treated very well and the speed of service was SLOW. Food was decent but very price for what it is. You are better off somewhere else.

I come from a small town known for fantastic local bbq, and one of my biggest gripes about Houston is the lack of good bbq. The first thing that I try to test out a new place is a regular chopped beef sandwich, as if a restaurant cant get something so basic right then how could I expect them to do anything else well? The chopped beef sandwich was of a decent size, but the buns were cold, the price was rather high($7 for just a sandwich), it cost $.65 just to add pickles, and tasted like a mouthful of pepper. Really all I could taste was the pepper; I could tell that there was some good texture to the meat, and some kind of sauce included, but it was just pepper, pepper, pepper for each bite, until I couldnt taste anything by the end. If a place cant manage something so simple, Im not going to bother with anything else. I wont be going here again.

I find the negative reviews on this site puzzling and maybe suspicious. As a Texas transplant to the DFW area in the 1980s, I adopted the bbq cuisine voraciously and enjoyed Angelos, Sonny Bryans as well as the normal, neighborhood places that are all over Texas. I enjoy brisket - chopped or sliced, pork ribs, sausage as well as chicken. Its all good as long as its authentic, smoked and simply prepared/presented. . Lulings represents the cuisine very well - setting is typical convenient, right off the beltway. Has a bar if you like/need an adult beverage. Food and presentation is authentic, delicious and fairly priced. I was in this part of Houston for a business trip and went twice in 3 days!

found this place on google. visited the restaurant around 3pm, has a full bar in the front, and you have to walk to the back to get your food. Its likea cafeteria line: grab a tray and cup, choose your drink, 50/50 choice of coleslaw or egg salad?, extra for pickle spears or peppercinis, and you order by weight 1/4, 1/2, or 1 pound... they have beef, pork ribs, and chicke. I had the 1/4 lbs of beef brisket and por ribs. $13 for the combo which included a drink. The ribs were tiny, the brisket was dry... wasnt impressed. The portions are small, the food isnt to my liking, and the price was no bueno for hte amount of food you got... will not be going back.
