The old la strada was known for alcohol pyroclastic queens and marginal food. This place is no different. I really think some restaurant(?) locations are "haunted," this location has seen at least four fails. Must sink into the walls somehow. Also, if you want to really know how youre doing as a restuarant, ask us single older smaller guys dining alone who know the industry. No, I am not grumpy (yet). This place is terrible. Service was bare ; waiter took my order, filled my water glass once, brought me what passes for food here and other than that never saw him again til the check. dining area manager should have been by for a table check. The food, oh the food; ordered the crab nachos a.k.a the night of the living dead nachos (enough said). Before I go further, the time was 6-7pm so absolutely way no excuse for what I was tossed to eat next- the tamales....ohh the tamales; they were an exquisite blend of dried out crispy ends, too much flavorless sauce and old masa with some thread of meat (I think). I was too hungry not to eat so I finished my meal and left hoping I could digest it. Somehow I did and lived.

El Tiempo is the main reason I could never move from Houston. I usually eat here every week or two and almost always get the fajitas. Ive tried a lot of fajitas around Houston and these are definitely the best. The meat is always tender, cooked perfected, and a perfectly seasoned/marinaded. Their rice is quirky...in a good way. It usually has random veggies, meat, and pasta in it, but it definitely spices it up. The margaritas are also really good. They arent your typical, sweet margaritas. They are more of a sour lime margarita without all the added sugar, which took some getting used to, but I love it now. If you still have room for dessert, go for the Choco Banana. Its like a banana and chocolate empanada...and its amazing. Service is almost always great, and food comes out very fast- almost too fast sometimes. If you are ready to order quickly, just eat some chips and salsa for a few minutes before you order.

Its not suprising that El Tiempos new location opened not-so-quietly and without a hitch. They have this down to an art. And the neighborhood has opened their arms to the potent, lovely ritas (and stumbled home after two, too many). The staff is patient and kind and full of personality - fits right in the trose. The upstairs is finally reliving its glory days of the old La Strada. Despite the earlier flops in this location, I think El Tiempo can finally stick to this location - one Montrose institution replaces another. Its only fitting. And it has already become the happy hour and lunch spot for most of the vicinity so be prepared to wait if you come at those times. Weekends and weeknights have not been as busy. The 411: Grab a table upstairs Order a margarita (their house rita is solid - no need to fancy it up) Order queso, add the brisket Split the fajitas (if its a special occasion, splurge on the Deluxe Parilla)

My wife and I went here with some friends and we absolutely loved this. First impression was the decor and atmosphere of the place was really nice. It wasnt just a Mexican restaurant but was a full immersion since the entire restaurant was done up. We ate upstairs and got the 1 pound steak fajitas to split between 4 adults and one child. They were delicious and we were all full by the time we finished. The fajitas come with flour, corn, and whole grain tortillas, but the flour is outta this world good. My wife enjoyed the corn ones, I thought they were alright, and I didnt like the whole grain too much. But we requested more flour totillas and they brought us more no problems. If its a warm day, sit up top and enjoy the nice street view. I absolutely recommend this place. We finished off with one sopapilla to split between us and once again we werent disappointed.

The food here is awesome as expected like all El Tiempo restaurants Ive visited. I still think they all serve the very best fajitas in Houston. We frequent the Montrose location quite often and as a group decided to try this location. The Saturday night we went there was a private party booked upstairs which made for a longer wait than I think is probably usual. The staff and all servers were very friendly. The one negative thing about this location in my opinion is the lack of properly planned outdoor space. We were seated on the patio facing Westheimer and it was very cramped and there were no patio heaters. Normally in Houston lack of heaters isnt an issue, but that night it was cold and we really needed a heater to keep us and the food warm. They still have some work to do to bring it up to the standards of the other locations.

The queso and guacamole were good, but the coconut margarita did not taste like coconut and I had to ask them to actually put coconut in there, though they never put the coconut flakes like on the drink menu. I love chilli rellenos, but theirs was highly disappointing. It looked like it was swimming in grease. I took one bite and the hot grease went down the wrong way searing my throat. I probably ate three bites altogether. It was a family party or I probably would have sent it back. I can still taste the grease from that today and my throat is rough. Might go back, but not for that. I would probably rather go to Hugos down the street if I was choosing.

I had ordered from this restaurant through UberEats and they had forgotten my drink. They made up for it and I genuinely appreciate that they went above and beyond to have my order completed and it didnt even take long for the driver to come back with my drink. I ordered the Pechuga Grillada and it was soooo delicious. I also ordered their tres leches which was on point because there are some places where they never add enough milk. El Tiempo has got customer service down to a science. Thanks to the workers for fulfilling my order you guys are awesome!

Ordered veggie fajitas.- Lunch sized and priced. First of all, was brought a HUGE basket of chips - More than four people would reasonably eat. The avocado salsa though is delicious. I could eat LOTS of that. I was offered a refill, but managed to say no. The veggie fajitas were great, lots of veggies. My only complaint is that they glisten a lot - too much oil. Still might order again, but all that oil knocks the dish out of the healthy arena. Service was excellent, very attentive. Frequent water refills.

Too noisy. If you want to talk and having a conversation with your friends youll need to yell. You could hear the next tables conversations. Variety of drinks are only in alcohol drinks, for non-alcoholic drinks they just offer sodas, ice tea, and cranberry juice. You do not expect this from a tex-Mexican restaurant, where it is possible to find nstural juices or even horchata juice. Food is really good, fast service and staff are really nice with customers.

This is my favorite Mexican chain in Houston. If any friends are in town this is a must stop. We typically share the fajitas with whoever we go with. Though if you want something a bit different I cant recommend the cannonball enough. It is a deep friend avocado with either shrimp or beef. :) The margaritas are also top notch. You can either go classy if a regular margarita or mix it up with several of their flavored varieties.
