TLDR: Meh+GO fail. This is the second time weve been to Anothai on 1960. The first was to try out the closest Thai restaurant to us (theres another one now though). The first experience was fine, but not mind blowing like that Thai place in Spring Branch. THAT is, bar none, the best Thai I have ever had in the city of Houston. The second experience was to redeem a Google Offers coupon for $9 for $20. We ordered the Fish Cakes to start and our entrees were Pad Thai and the Wild Curry with Mock Duck. I am not a vegetarian by any means, but I like my tofu and like to try different versions of it when possible. But Im getting ahead of myself. The fish cakes were just a bit on the fishy side and not in the accustomed good way. Now before you say thats what I ordered, let me say the I am Burmese and I have eaten and continue to eat fish based things that most people would deem "too fishy" or just plain absurd. Nga Pi comes to mind. I nice aged fish paste. Or maybe some Nga ton gha, a dried salted fish pounded into fibers and then fried with garlic and onions. Yum. Pad Thai, no brainer. Its hard to mess it up, except when you slice the chicken super thin, causing it to become tough and dry by the time the rest of the dish is cooked. We were not the only ones within earshot that got dry chicken. Wild Curry with mock duck. The mock duck was fine and a little bit fun with mock skin to go along with it. The wild curry seemed no different than green curry with no coconut milk. It was also a bit soupy for my liking and the serving of rice that came with it was picayune. I had to order another miniature bowl of rice and I was the only one eating it. Not horrible food, but not great. We prefer the other Thai place close to us, but hey, we had a coupon and now was the time to redeem that coupon. I pulled it up on my phone and they tried to scan the bar code (that never works). When he tried to enter it in manually, it failed. He asked if it was Groupon and I said no. He tried again and it failed. Then he pointed out that this was a coupon for lunch only. The terms of the coupon are: " Limit 1 Offer per person; may buy 1 additional as a gift. Limit 1 per table per visit. Not valid for takeout. Lunch only at Nara Thai location. Valid at both Anothai Cuisine locations (Houston and Spring, TX) and Nara Thai Dining (Humble, TX). Not valid for alcohol." I was at their Houston (1960) location. He refused to honor the coupon and I had to pay full price. Im sorry to say that I will not be returning to this restaurant. I have an email in to Google Offers so well see how that is handled. Oh and a word about the service since others have commented. I find them to be slightly understaffed in the front of house. They are curt and in a hurry and might even step away from your table in mid sentence. The exception is extremely nice, slightly apologetic and annoyingly patronizing. It seems like her very existence hinges on whether or not you will come back. It makes me feel like they are *just* about to go under...

The chubby waiter named Oak or Oat who is the owners nephew is rude still. Ive gone to all the 7 locations and love Danny and Anothais restaurant and all the other locations have better customer service. Read the reviews below, its all true, food is good, but A/C needs work and you guys need to fire your nephew. I told you about him previously and you guys said he will work on it, but he hasnt. I just came in today and my mom and sister told me how rude and long he takes to take care of us. He is lazy and rude. Please hire anyone else, he is costing you business. Ill change my rating once he is gone. He gave us attitude as well after he forgot our cucumber. I told him about this review I am typing and he is like that is your opinion, and I said no, check your reviews, this is everyones opinion. Oak needs to be fired, this is years of rude service, this is not the industry he should be working in.

From the incredibly friendly service, attentive suggestions, and outstanding curry dishes this really has become my favorite Thai restaurant anywhere. The food is very fresh, very authentic, and very very tasty. The staff (ask for Mali) is terrific. Prefer the little Thai eggplants and carrots in your red curry instead of whats on the menu, just ask. They are very accommodating. The decor is understated, comfortable, and elegant. Thai food cooked by Thai cooks, served by Thai staff. Location is easy to miss, right on 1960 next to the big noodle place, pho dan I think. Love Pho but skip it and have curry tonight. Seems the place is getting pretty popular at lunch but dinner seems to be not crowded at all and best of all they are open late. I really cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough.

Today was my first time ordering from this place and I was extremely disappointed. I ordered the papaya salad. All I tasted was fish sauce and msg. It tasted nothing like authentic papaya salad and I know because its a dish thats eaten regularly as part of my diet. I would have been better off making it myself but I didnt have all the ingredients at home. I havent tried the other dishes but this experience has made me afraid to try anything else. I will eat at a different place next time. I DO NOT recommend the papaya salad.

I placed an order over the phone, but have never been to this location of Anothai before. The place was nice and clean and the waitress was nice and attentive when I walked in. I got my order promptly and had a quick chat with the girl. I mentioned to her that I will give them another try ( previous experience at a different location wasnt pleasant). I got chicken Laarb, which is my favorite with fried spring rolls. I gave them three star because the salad was a little too sweet for my taste.

I have regularly eaten here over the last three years since I was first introduced to this restaurant by a friend. I have consistently gotten great food and service. Their sticky rice desserts are great and their Jasmine tea is excellent. The wait staff even know my friends niece by name and meet her at the door with crayons so she can draw on the paper table cloths. And to top it all off is Rudy, the restaurant manager. He always stops by to say hello and get updates on how were doing.

Not kidding this is my favorite place, and my 5 year old daughters also. You can eat here every day, it is reasonably priced at dinner and affordable at lunch. FRESH describes it best. I just keep coming back for more, and yes I am very picky. Best of all is the service! Great service, also very clean, and yes kid friendly. Try the coconut ice cream, you will be surprised! Everything is good.
