A 2nd Cup is not an ordinary coffee shop. It is also a federal nonprofit organization to help spread awareness and end human trafficking in Houston, apparently one of the most intense regions of human trafficking according to the Department of Justice. Because of their mission and cause, I highly rate this coffee shop and applaud their passion to help others rather than help their own business. Besides that, this is a rather larger coffee shop compared to most others inside the loop. Though still on weekends, tables can still be completely filled. The atmosphere is good for either a study environment (not too loud music or talking) or a chill place to catch up with a friend over coffee. The seating can be uncomfortable depending on which chair youre using as there are not cushions on the seats. I noticed the white round looking ones are more comfortable, while some others do not have backs. This could be seen as good or bad depending on the person, I know some people prefer uncomfortable seating because it helps them focus better while studying (not me though!). There also seems to be plenty of outlets, I noticed some power strips around the middle tables area, which is also a plus for studying. The coffee itself, if you recognize the similarity of the taste, that is because they use the coffee beans from Boomtown, which uses local and ethically sourced coffee farms (another plus). So you can get the Boomtown coffee taste without the smell of cigars! I ordered the mocha while my boyfriend ordered a chai. Although it was just average tasting, I can see myself coming back here often.

"Its coffee with a cause." In addition to A 2nd Cup being a modern café in the Heights area of Houston, its also a federal non-profit fighting human trafficking in Houston. It was established in 2012 by Erica Raggett to develop resources that help create a second chance for survivors. I came here without knowing about the cause, but I thought it was very cool to see. The coffee shop itself is very spacious, relaxed, and has plenty of tables and couches to lounge out or do work. They serve coffee beans from Boomtown Coffee, a local roaster that offers beans that are ethically sourced and bought directly from farmers. I ordered the chai for $3.75. It was okay, nothing special. This place deserves 5-stars for the cause alone. I do like the atmosphere, and I see myself coming here in the future. They do blast their air conditioning during the summer months, so definitely bring a jacket or a sweater if you tend to get cold easily.

I wish I could leave a more positive review, because I know that this place is trying to raise money for a good cause. However, I love coffee. When I go to a coffee shop, I expect the coffee to be good. I have tried to order drinks at A 2nd Cup a handful of times, and every beverage I have ordered has been bitter and unpleasant. I do not like to add sugar to my drinks, and I usually order a hot or iced latte. Unfortunately, the lattes I ordered at a 2nd Cup were pretty undrinkable. They do have a very pleasant atmosphere, however, which is why I gave them 3 stars. The space is open and it is a comfortable environment to chat with a friend. So, if you are looking for a quiet place to have a heart-to-heart or study...this is your spot. If you are looking for top-notch coffee...you may want to go somewhere else.

Im giving this place 5 stars for the service (the people here are awesome), the coffee (pretty delicious no matter what you get...try a secret squirrel if youre feeling something sweet), and the cause. Its a 501(c)(3) devoted to fighting human trafficking that goes on in the city of Houston. If youre going to stay awhile, wear workout clothes. They dont run the AC anywhere near as cold as they used to (at all?)...in fact, it may be colder outside right now cause of the breeze (the month as of this writing is June and the current temp according to the NOAA app is 91deg).

A great place to work. Decent wifi, some power outlets, a parking lot, and excellent coffee. The food menu has also some delicious items. The breakfast sandwich in particular is very good. The inside is very spacious and lightly crowded. So you can easily find a seat (no problem there). The staff are very nice and polite. A big plus for this place is that theyre a non-for-profit organization and the proceeds are used for a good cause; to stop human trafficking, and to help the survivors.

An open layout that engages you from the first step you set inside. The atmosphere is warm and contemplative. The beverage selection is good for espresso based drinks. At the time of this review, A 2nd Cup was using Boomtown coffee and had various other roasters featured as guests for purchase. What I like most is the purpose of the shop, directed towards ending the sex trafficking that happens in Houston. Highly recommended.

Great coffee shop with good coffee. The best thing about A 2nd Cup is that they partner and support local charities. Finally a meaningful coffee shop in Houston! They have a big space with lots of seating and parking. Highly recommend and a must see if you are in Houston! Only thing to note is that their wifi connection is rather weak. If you are looking to be on the internet, theirs isnt the best.

The shop is spacious and one of few with ample parking. The décor doesnt have anything too odd. Everything just fits in and blends well. The cortado has a great, dark flavor without being too bitter or burnt tasting. This is one of the best places in Houston Ive been to, and Ive tried a lot of coffee shops. Pro tip: dont come at sunset because the sun shines into your face at a lot of the tables.

Has potential, but their wifi NEVER works. Its so frustrating to buy a drink and not be able to do any work since the wifi does NOT work. Ive come several times and various times throughout the day. I like the mission and would be a loyal customer if they had internet. Unfortunately, other shops in the area win my business more often than a 2nd cup because they have wifi. Please get better wifi.

Their daily soups have never let me down and the horchata cold brew has just the right ratio of horchata flavoring and coffee. The shop itself is quite spacious and good for studying if you can find a table near an outlet. I love you guys but try being a little more friendly and talkative. I cant speak for everyone but some of the staff seemed very cold when I tried interacting with them.

Best cortado I have had in Houston. Every sip left me rejoicing in its goodness. I cant wait to go back for more. The space is open and airy, good wifi, accessible power outlets. They also raise funds and awareness for organizations working to end human trafficking. Deffinitly a cause worth supporting in addition to the amazing coffee worth drinking.

Great Coffee and Food with a Cause!! You cant beat the combination of coffee, food, and philanthropy. A 2nd Cup is a non-profit coffee shop that fights human trafficking. The shop is perfect to grab a bite, or get work done all while supporting a wonderful cause to stop human slavery. Their breakfast tacos are some of the best Ive ever had!!
