Ive heard so many great things about this little shop for years because its been around for years, so one late night, I decided to give this place a try over IHOP and Dennys. I didnt except much exterior (small parking lot full of potholes) and interior wise because its a coffee shop, but I did expect better food since its apart of Pappas. My first visit, I had their chicken fried steak with country gravy and mashed potatoes. The steak, though huge, was tough, tasteless, and very greas, and the gravy tasted more like flour. I was very disappointed because I could have gone to IHOP and gotten the same thing and wouldve been better (and I hate IHOP). My second visit was over the weekend with a group of friends. We had just finished a late night out and was hungry and a friend really wanted to go there because they liked it. Not wanting to be a party pooper, I agreed to go. Knowing I wasnt going to like any of the food, I ordered a chefs salad. While we were waiting for our order, we were served a basket of rolls, which were kind of bland and dry. It did take longer than expected for our food to arrive, but maybe it was due to the place being a little on the full side at around midnight. My salad was something I could have made at home; torn iceberg lettuce, tomato wedges, cucumbers, and shredded cheddar cheese. There were only two choice of dressing, ranch and blue cheese which came in a small plastic cup. My companions had chicken strips and fries, and chicken strips and mozzarella sticks. I will say that the chicken strips are very good. They are fried and huge, and the fries were thick cut, fresh and seasoned well (I believe with seasoned salt). Alongside their orders were big bowls of marinara and country gravy. The portions were huge, but thats one thing I will say about Dots, everything thats served there is huge, so you do get alot of bang for your buck and a whole lot more (like a gut... lol). My only regret though is when you go to pay at the counter before leaving, you see the different desserts that are made there daily. I will admit that I wanted a slice of their strawberry pie, banana cream, heck all of them looked very appealing. I suppose if I go to Dots again at night, Ill stick with their desserts.

I ate here on May 19 2017 but I have visited this location many times over 20 years I have to say that my last visit on May 19th was the most impressive visit I have ever had the staff here has totally changed around this restaurant the management is doing a great job, the waitress greeted us with a smile and was very concerned and in tune of what we wanted to order, she even suggested some menu items that we might like, the first thing that impressed me about this visit is that the glasses of water were sparkling clear and clean the forks and spoons and silverware were spotless and super clean the tables and the area was very clean all the plates everything about this restaurant was very clean also I noticed that all the staff was properly dressed in uniform pressed dress to impress our service was prompt even though it was a busy Friday night we got everything without a long wait and everything was fresh and hot, I personally ordered the pot roast plate with mash potatoes green beans and rice with gravy it was very delicious the meal was not salty that meal was prepared well and the cooks were professional in the kitchen, I have heard rumors that Pappas has invested into this business or is part-owner into the dots coffee shop, if they are then they have done a great job at turning this place around I give this place five stars and I will definitely be back sooner than later, I highly recommend this historic coffee shop and I am sure you will have a great visit I am just a local resident that believes in proper customer service Dots coffee has outdone themselves cheers to all the managers the waitresses and staff that are running this restaurant.

Truly mixed emotions here. It started with them seating us under a leak, which they new existed. How do I know this? Before we sat the hostess stopped my son from sitting to wipe the seat without looking at it. Later we realized the place is leaking pretty badly near the kitchen, in the rear. Many tables open yet we had to request to be moved. Our waitress seemed a bit green as the manager, who was younger than her, had to tell her to keep her drink tray off the table. She then took our order and we waited. We got our food which was very good. My kids all finished the majority of their meals which is not often. My wife and I enjoyed our meals. All was breakfast cuisine. However, after checking on us once after receiving our food, we never saw the waitress again. I had to go get her to get our ticket. The server taking care of the table next to us refused to acknowledge that we needed assistance. I had to ask him a few times for help which he was not happy about. The manager I saw all of two times, though I understand managers have responsibilities that arent always on the dining floor. Overall, my rating stands at 3 out of 5 as the food was excellent considering the service being rather tactless and the facility itself being in disrepair. In their defense, my prior visits have been after late night club excursions in midtown and going there on the way home back south. Those I remember as pleasant, though my experience may have been a bit askew. Thanks for reading!

BEWARE - FRAUD ALERT I visited this location Sunday, Sep. 11, 2016 after midnight. I paid the tab (under $30) with my debit Master Card. The following morning I received a alert notification phone call from Master Cards fraud division asking about suspicious purchases made with my debit card. The charges were made online. One was for over $250 worth of womens shoes and the other was $300 worth of video purchases. These charges were made overnight and after my visit to Dot. I disputed the charges and they canceled my credit card to avoid any further charges. I went to Dot that morning and spoke with the on duty manager. I explained my situation to him with the intention of making him aware of the activity going on at night. He quickly defended the waitress, Catherine, and denied that it was her. I told him that this did happen and not only to me but it most likely has happened to other customers. And that I was not the first person. He again defended the waitress and did not offer to address the issue with his staff of upper management. So this post is to warn others of the potential credit card fraud risk at Dot. Please beware.

Sisters and mom took me out for birthday breakfast and it was my first time there. I ordered the veggie omelet with toast and my sister and I split a stack of pancakes. The portions are excellent Texas-sized affairs and I would advise you to split the omelets as they are HUGE. Seriously, I am a big eater and could only eat half. They were accompanied by a serious side of hash browns so it was more than enough for two, perhaps three if you have smallish appetites. The pancakes were huge and tasty. They had a sweet flavor to them and I know the batter had to be homemade. Skip the butter as they really dont need them. Crisp edges so they had to be on the grill with some kind of oil. The place gets crowded, but not overly so ... we did see people waiting to get in as we were leaving, but it was not an outrageous line like at some local establishments. I cant attest to their lunch menu as we all had breakfast food, but I will be back. Also a great value. The omelets were about $8 and miles above the larger chains known for breakfasts. A great Pappas experience.
