Worst Valentines Ever! Tips when coming here. 1. Dont expect good food service if sitting at bar. 2. Yes it gets pretty noisy when crowded. - We sat at bar not expecting timely service but to have a leisurely good time with drinks. When we ordered some food off the menu thats when things went down hill. - the wait staff brought us wrong drinks twice when we didnt order any as we were already drinking a beer. - We asked for some limes for our beer and waitress brought us 1 lime to share. - Waitress asked what we ordered 3 times as we waited for our food while back.. no big deal till.. - they came with an appetizer we didnt order then they brought us an extra appetizer we didnt order when our meal arrived. - The last straw was when our table was never bussed and we were trying to leave and couldnt get our check after we had asked for it twice. We finally grabbed the manager and told him we were just simply trying to leave and wanted our check.. worst valentines dinner ever.

First of all the food was ok, Ive had better. Second, I think is a bit pricy for the size it is and third their mix drinks are not good, and God forbids you try to exchange it because the manager/owner (or whoever that guy was) will go and drop it off for you and tell you straight out in a rude tone "You cannot do that for whatever reason you didnt like it, it is a waste for us and we dnt exchange drinks, we follow a recipe and thats it" He was very rude about it and the tone that he said it to me made me feel very uncomfortable! That is the last time I will go there!

This place has good food. Most all of their fajita plates are outstanding. The fajita is always tender. The chips and salsa are the best! Most places can bring you stale chips with cold salsa, La Playa goes above and beyond. Their chips are always crunchy and their salsa is nice and warm and not too spicy. You are sure to leave feeling full from this place. The service is stellar and the drinks are cold! My one and only complaint is that sometimes it gets too loud inside. But thats probably the effect on people that have had 1 too many drinks.

There is no doubt in my mind that this restaurant is the BEST! We go quite often, and the food and service are always superb! I love the mariachi and so does our 3 year old. The salsa is the best weve had in Harlingen yet, and to me that can make or break a good meal. Weve never had slow service or food or bad service and food. ALWAYS a great experience! We always want to try new Mexican places, but afraid none of them will even compare to La Playa.

Everytime Im in Harlingen, I go eat at La Playa. Service is great and its kid friendly. Theyre topshelf margaritas are very good and only $7. It is very comparable to my favorite mexican restaurant in Houston, Picos. The Enchiladas Suizas are marvelous! I also love the mexican rice. All around great place to eat! Minus one star because they forgot to give me my charro beans :), but I just got them to go because I was stuffed anyway.

AWESOME PLACE!!! The food was delicious and priced right. I offered the stuffed jalapenos with chicken and cheese inside, yum! Then had the burrito and it was very good. The only cons are parking and service 8s not very personal. They are just too busy to say things like "how are you doing today" or "have a great evening" Maybe I am expecting too much for service. It doesnt matter though because the food is so good.

Visiting from D.C. and after 3 different restaurants in the same night we found La Playa. Absolute top notch service that was only surpassed by the spectacular food. The entire staff is dialed in on making the dining experience a fabulous one. The menu has everything you can ask for and the prices are more than generous as are the portions. Cheers to the owners and staff at La Playa.

With a wide variety of authentic Mexican cuisine on the menu your taste buds will thank you for coming in. The beef fajitas are great and happy hour is a plus. Street tacos are yummy! Did I mention the chips and salsa are endless and good. Just be prepared to yell with your guest, it gets loud and makes it hard to have a nice quiet lunch or dinner at times.

Stopped here on our way home from south padre the restraunt was busy full house the food was good but the service was slow our waiter was busy with other tables and the atmosphere well if you like to eating with the lights out you got it the restrooms where you dont need much light was lit up I needed a flash light to get back to my table

Had the worst experience felt because I had my kids with me I was being ignored server cut me off in the middle of me ordering to get refills for the table full of adults as if they were gonna tip him better ! Im a server myself and that was just plain dam rude.on top of it I had to wait 2hrs for a manager to show up no manager was on duty .

Food is great! Only other restauraunt in the whole darn valley that does Tex-Mex food right, other than Las Vegas Cafe. Only downside is loud annoying 40-50 year old women screaming and shouting. If you enjoy quiet sit towards the back and stay away from the fishtank area. The afternoon/Weekends are loud as heck......

Was told by hotel worker,this was the place to go for a good meal. Stopped in 8/22 about 9pm, ordered shrimp street tacos and they were sorry. Shrimp had a funny taste and the corn tortillas tasted worse...tasted like store bought tortillas youd buy somewhere in Ohio. Shouldve saved my $15 and went to Whataburger.

We eat here anytime were in Harlingen for work and it is always a fun time. Their portions are also huge and the food, delicious! They also make a pretty good Michelada. I recommend the fajitas - lots of different options for meats + toppings and plenty to take home left-over as well. Go-to friendly spot!

In a town with many good Mexican restaurants, this is far and away my favorite. I have several times taken large groups there after golf outings and everyone seems to love it. Best to go during happy hour. I particularly like their fried stuffed avacado and my wife loves their seafood enchiladas.

The only reason for the two star is credited to the great waiter. Besides that, food was a 1. Whomever agrees that this is authentic food, clearly has had their tastebuds burnt off. This is just another "authentic Mexican food" restaurant whose lost its authenticity and using cookbook recipes.

Over the years the quality of the food has gone down. The carne guisada, which is actually Fajita, was once the favorite but now you either get more vegetables than meat or the flavor is lacking. The service is always good though. The wait staff is friendly and top notch for Harlingen.

There is no better place for mid-day eating than La Playa. The two Margaritas excellently complemented my Chicken Jalisco meal. A rare event for me since I am usually working but vacation time provided as an opportunity to completely test the palate. Keep up the great meals.
