So, I am a former employee of this place and I want to just say that even though the food and drinks are delicious and the atmosphere is very chill and ambient, the management staff (or actually just one manager in particular) was absolutely horrible and rude to me. Not only was he unforgiving of my school schedule (even though it was very flexible) he also completely humiliated me in front of the entire work staff and I hadnt even done anything wrong (I know thats what most people say in those situations, but I swear to you that in this case, I was in the complete right). He handled the situation very immaturely although he is a middle aged man. He didnt fire me because, like I said, I hadnt done anything to get myself fired. I didnt even defend myself when he was screaming in my face in front of everyone. I just stood there and took it. However, the next day I knew that I had been severely and unfairly mistreated, so I quit and called HR on this manager and so did a few of my other coworkers. Oh, to top it off, I didnt receive a paycheck for almost a month because the management kept screwing up my account information. Whats so sad is, I worked at another Black Walnut location, and had the best time. The management respected me and my schedule as much as they possibly could and they didnt treat me like an idiot. I dont want to diss the entire restaurant though. The food is great and the desserts are delicious and the bar has a wonderful wide variety. But I will say, that if you must dine at this location, please treat the employees with respect and give them some sort of gratuity because the hours are long and grueling and the management is...difficult, to put it mildly. All in all, if youre going to eat at Black Walnut, which you totally should, dont go to the Flower Mound location.

This was the third time we decided to give this location a chance and it was not a good experience. First, when you counter order and wait 30 minutes for soup and salad thats terrible turn around time and then pick it up from the counter to eat cold soup...if it sits there waiting for your tables food it is going to get cold! I had to place a to go order after we ate and I ordered grilled cheese and a pasta. Fifteen minutes after I ordered to go the pasta came out and the counter staff put the to go container on top of warming lights, not under the lights. It sat there 10 minutes getting cold and really how long does it take to make grilled cheese... I walked up and said something so the staff about it getting cold and the staff just tossed it under the warmer. Really, how good is pasta if it is cold before you get home. Then I asked for a manager and expressed my displeasure for my food sitting there getting cold and all that was done is they took it to the back to reheat. I still waited and an order to go should not take another 30 minutes! Not impressed with the service time or management response and am not likely to return. If you cant manage food coming out there is a problem.

We have tried Black Walnut twice... The first time I was unimpressed by the food, but it was palatable. Considering the self service aspect, and the menu which is essentially elevated chain restaurant food at twice the price - I was hesitant to return. Unfortunately I convinced myself that considering the image they present, possibly salads would be their forte - I didnt get to judge the salad as the chicken was completely raw. I really dont appreciate the attempted food poisoning. In addition (this was a to go order) several items were missing. When we called to inform them of their failure, they were more than happy to say they would refund the order... which they never did. It looks cute, and plays into the type of restaurant which should be successful in our area... but I dont give them a year before the novelty wears off and the place closes.

I am disappointed. After having fabulous brunch here, I came back about a month later for dinner. I ordered the "never-ending summer" salad for $13.00. I knew that the price was steep for a salad but saw that it had shrimp on it so I let it go. The employees were warm and friendly, and service was fast, but my salad was less than exciting. With about three servings of lettuce and exactly five overcooked shrimp, the salad was underwhelming. I ate about one third of it and all the berries I could find, and left the rest, including some feta that tasted a bit off. If youre planning to eat here, I strongly suggest splitting a dish.

Rude bartender. I ordered a fresh squeezed orange juice and she came out and tried to hand me a to go cup with only 2/3 full of OJ! When I mentioned that it wasnt full, lorin the bartender was extremely distasteful and combative. She not only argued with me but also said that I should have come in to the bar to pick it up when on several occasions I came to their to go door and parked in their to go spot to pick up a OJ in the past. They were so busy that she said they couldnt bring out stuff anymore. Just despicable customer service that I encountered and I will take it up with their district manager!

Overall good first experience with Black Walnut. We tried the Lobster tacos and Carnitas tacos. The Lobster tacos were our favorite, they were fresh and the lobster was buttery and cooked perfectly. It came with a mediocre Cesar salad which made no sense being paired with the tacos. The Carnita tacos were good but just OK. The bartender wasnt there that day and the person making our bloody Mary and Margarita needed better training, they were pretty bad. The atmosphere is clean but rustic with lots of Walnut finished furniture. We will give it another try if in the area.

The food is always good and the staff is always friendly, but its too expensive for the service you get. I purchased a regular burger with fries and a fountain drink, and my bill was $15. I would pay $15 for a meal if I had a waiter come to my table, take my order, refill my drinks, bring my food, etc. However, I dont think I should be paying such high prices if Im the one getting my own food. And its not like Im ordering the most expensive dish - its a burger. Itll be up to you if you want to dine on overpriced, but good food.

Went for breakfast and found the food and decor to be good. However, the tables and chairs were dirty. They appeared to have been cleaned but still had crumbs on them. My "plastic" glass of water was filthy too. I didnt like the whole pager idea; I prefer the food brought to me especially for the price Im paying. The coffee was sub-par. Overall, they need to increase their effort in keeping the place spotless. I found The Corner Bakery in Highland Village to be cleaner with similar food quality.

My fiancé and I tried Black Walnut cafe for the first time a few days ago to go somewhere new on date night. We were very surprised by the laid back atmosphere and loved the set up of the restaurant. I tried the pot roast grilled cheese, and it was absolutely delicious! Afterwards we decided to try the gelato, and it was such a great day to end our experience there! We will definitely be back to explore the wide variety of entrees on the menu!
