Great Place for traditional cuisine. The outside of the restaurant wasnt very inviting, but once you step inside youre basically in a totally different environment, Traditional Japanese style seating (see my attached photos). The food was quite good. We ordered salmon and tuna sashimi, miso soup, grilled squid, Taiwan ramen, Tonkotsu ramen. I was impressed by the Taiwan ramen, which was spicy and very flavorful. All of the food was served at a perfect temperature, which I think makes a big difference. This is definitely a restaurant worth checking out in a small group, as seating is limited. Feel free to read my other reviews for other great restaurants in the area

This place completely surprised me! Its location was a bit difficult to find, as it appears to be hidden within an older shopping center, but the atmosphere upon entering felt as though I had been transported! While small in size, the café offers traditional Japanese-style seating and an affordable tapas-style menu with so many fantastic items to choose from that I would suggest trying several plates at once (in addition to a bowl of ramen, of course). While busier times may mean seating will be limited, Mr Max is a must for those seeking an authentic and unique Japanese dining experience.

Im a big fan of Japanese culture and cuisine. How do you know this place is authentic? I was one of maybe 3 people in the entire restaurant who was not Asian haha. The wait staff are so friendly, happy, and helpful. Even the hostess will come by your table sometimes to help out. I ordered the salmon sashimi and it was incredible, it made me so happy. Another really cool thing here is you have to take off your shoes to sit at the tables, which really added to the experience for me. I would eat here every day if it didnt cost me almost 8 dollars in tolls to get there and back!

This is an izakaya. The main purpose is to meet with friends or business associates for drinks, most notably sake. The food is definitely authentic and is mostly there to accompany the drinking. The staff speaks very little English but they try their best to make everyone feel welcome. The times we went nearly half of the customers were Japanese and we quickly realized that no only is it a good idea to have a reservation but also to slow down and visit. Most people were there for over two hours. Think of it more like a bar than a restaurant.

How cool is this place! Its like youre in Tokyo at a little noodle bar or something. It has a great menu with tons of variety, and fairly late night operating hours. Its a great place to take a date if theyre into eclectic. Its not well known, so youll score points by being the person "in the know." Most of the people who eat here are Asian, which is always a good sign. The food is very good too, and pretty quick. Its easy to try things and share them, which is a plus if youre in a group.

The best place ever! The outside might frighten you but step inside for some delicious food. We had some of their sashimi, salmon, eel omelettes, squid guts and ramen. All the food was cooked to perfection and the waiters were so welcoming and helpful. The place is small but it packs a big punch. Great price too, felt for what you order it was worth every penny. Get here sooner than later because this place fills up fast! (If not you might wait but its definitely worth the wait!)

Youre driving into what seems to be one of the darkest parking lots of your entire life and the look on the outside of Mr. Max seems to be one of a shady money laundering front, but you open the door and youre greeted in Japanese by the hostess and you realize just how safe you are. The food is absolutely amazing and the service is far above average in this delightful hole-in-the-wall noodle house restaurant. Absolutely delicious food.

Been on the hunt for an authentic Japanese restaurant that has a variety of small plates, and Mr Max is the best so far in the DFW area. We tried the karaage, kobe beef Hamburg, Tonkotsu ramen, and homemade curry. Planning to go back to try the grilled salmon and menchi katsu and repeat some of the previous dishes. Get here early to beat the crowds. Too bad they arent open for lunch.

Outstanding traditional Japanese food. I need to warn you, this is not a american sushi spot, Ill go one step further - this isnt even a sushi place to begin with. Go here only if you want an authentic experience. Yes there is sushi and sashimi on the menu but there is so much more that youre better going to a dedicated Sushi restaurant for that and enjoying hot dishes here.

La comida es deliciosa y auténtica. Si no tienes reservacion hay que esperar mucho para que te den una mesa o en la barra. El lugar es pequeño pero muy lindo y buen servicio.

Decent food. Everything they serve is a bit too salty foot my taste. Of the 8 dishes that we ordered that was exceptional was the curry rice. The price is a little too expensive for the quality that they serve. I came here because my Japanese friend said it was the best authentic Japanese food in Dallas. I must say, I am a little bit disappointed.

Realmente me encantó :) el trato amable de los cocineros y meseros y el sabor auténtico Japonés en cada platillo, valió la pena la espera. Realmente lo recomiendo!!

Tasty Japanese tapas style food! Sat by the kitchen and had a great time watching the chefs cook and talked with them too. Make sure to share so you can try different items. Long wait so expect to wait - they will call your phone so you dont have to wait in the tight waiting space. Friendly staff and food came out fast if you didnt order sashimi.

This is hands down the most authentic feeling Asian eatery Ive ever been to. Atmosphere is perfect. The food is incredible. If you live close enough to visit this place, LUCKY YOU!!! I really want to visit it again. Great memories. Ive been twice and both times, I was blown away. Bring friends for an amazing dining experience.

Food was awesome, service was a bit slow. Cozy if you like a hole in the wall (I do). I enjoyed a small mixed tempora and a beef w tofu stew. Orion beer (Okinawa) was mild and smooth, prefer some of the other Japanese rice beers. Negtive was our server really pushed Sashimi options due to the chefs purchase that morning.

Great authentic izakaya. I dropped in and had a Sapporo and the daily specials, and they were excellent. Its a family-owned hole in the wall, just like the best places in Japan. Note that table reservations assume a normal period of time; if you want to stay a long time please let them know when placing the reservation.

A focus on the taste but not the size, I think Mr Max demonstrated a dedication to good quality food, smaller portions and reasonable prices. Consistency of what you get for what you ordered is an issue at this location, but the food is generally good even when it is "off". Their pricing can be cheaper, but it is ok.

I love this place!! Mr.Max is the answer to non sushi Japanese food. Its tiny so try to make a reservation because its always busy. I recommend the Tonkatsu ramen, daikon salad, grilled squid, agedashi tofu, clams, grilled tuna collar bone, shoshito peppers and my son likes the fried Kobe Patty.
