I used to love this place. Lets face it....when you eat at a Chinese buffet you need to lower your expectations. You expect a wide variety of mediocre food, pick a few favorites and graze on the rest. Kung Fu Buffet really was an excellent restaurant at one time. But yesterday I had returned after swearing never to return six months ago. Lunchtime yesterday the place was hardly bustling. Sadly the food has become inedible. Everything is too soggy, too chewy, tastes of freezer burn, strong suggestions of rancid oil and a cod liver oil-ish aftertaste. Even the hot mustard has a greasy rancid fish flavor. The hot & sour soup was lukewarm and sticky sweet; like pancake syrup & sponge strips. The vegetables have no flavor or natural texture, and the various meats are either gross chewy, or rubbery mush. The eggrolls were filled with a brown paste and gritty cabbage; they too had a rancid cod liver oil flavor. Even the ice cream showed evidence of having melted & then refrozen. It had freezer burns and lumps of clear ice in it. (WTF?) The fresh fruits had no flavor and looked to have been sprayed with some sort of glossy chemical to keep it from spoiling. The final stupid insult was the sweet tea. It was clear and tasted like thinned sugar water. No tea flavor at all; it smelled like bleach and commercial detergent. Our chair seats were sticky. The waitstaff is indifferent and wont make eye contact. This morning I woke up with a tender tongue, raw bleeding gums and diarrhea. Ditto for the other three in our party. I used to love this restaurant too. Quite honestly the worst meal Ive ever had from any restaurant in recent memory....perhaps ever. Never again.

I, admittedly, do not have high standards for buffet restaurants, however, I was less than impressed with Kung Fu Buffet, even with the low bar I had set. While there is a decent variety of food, I found it difficult to finish the small portions I got. The crab rangoon wasnt crab rangoon at all and with the cream cheese as sweet as it was, they should probably should be in the desert aisle. In fact, I found many of the savory dishes, including the beef and broccoli, vegetable lo mein, and chefs fish to be flavorless besides being almost too sweet to eat. I was, however, a BIG FAN of the green beans (which were cooked and seasoned perfectly), the fresh-baked macaroons, ripe fresh fruit, and the selection of real ice cream and sherbet, although, not exactly what I expect from a Chinese Restaurant. Our waitstaff were quite nice and attentive, however, there was one individual, who I thought was a customer at first since he wasnt wearing a uniform, loitering in the buffet area messing with his phone. It wasnt until I saw him wipe down the counters that I realized that he was an employee. Between the facebook messenger ping going off regularly, amplified by the room, and the group of friends of his that took over the buffet area, speaking profanities about me in Spanish, I felt very annoyed, uncomfortable, and was happy to leave as quickly as possible. Needless to say, I dont think I will ever be going back. The only reason I am not giving this review 1 star is because the other wait staff were kind, attentive, professional, and *some* of the food was delicious.

For the price, it isnt bad. It is close to a lot of peoples homes so it is good to come here when you dont feel like driving far. There are lots of other mega Chinese buffets in Austin that do a better job than this one. This buffet is a somewhat small, but they are not as crowded. Some of the buffet items were dried out. You could tell they had been sitting out for a few hours. Sometimes, as what was the case with their chicken wings, sitting around under the heat for a few hours made them really great texture-wise. They had two varieties of shrimp, a bevy of chicken dishes, a few pork dishes, mostly stir-fry style. There are no premium items here such as the crab legs and large butterflied shrimp that you find at other Austin Asian buffets, but for a bit less than $9, thats about all youll get. The temperature of the food here is much lower than other buffets. It ranges from barely warm to kind of warm, but never hot.

Food here isnt something you dont see in any other chinese buffet places with the occasional western food choices. Its not bad but its not amazing either. The thing that makes me rate this a two star maybe even less really is the fact that ownership didnt even bother sprucing up the aesthetics of this place. When you go in and see the tables, theyre old. Seats need new upholstery, the carpet needs replacing and not just a deep cleaning. The buffet tables themselves need updating. Although a few weeks ago I saw an article regarding restaurants in our area here around Cedar Park TX with health code violations which sadly included this establishment (40 violations), this place would really pick up. Theres not a lot of buffet restaurants here in Cedar Park. I hope they just get it together.

Theyre food just taste absolutely disgusting. Theyre a couple of good things like the Mongolian pork and egg drop soup... But everything just had a really bad flavor and tastes greedy or fake. I mean yeah its cheap but oh man does it taste terrible. I even saw into the kitchen for a few seconds and the walls look dirty and everything looked like it was caked in gunk. My brother god a crawfish and we opened it and it was like a green yellowish color, I dont think its supposed to be that.... Other than that the service is very nice and the the waitress was really polite. I would not go again though, not worth the money.

Only good for when you need Chinese and nothing else is open or nearby. Often they stand right outside the door of their own restaurant, smoking cigarettes letting it waft in. The guy who instructs the cooks to make more food leans against the wall and plays on his phone then goes and directly stirs the food without washing his hands. Bathrooms have urine and feces on the walls and Floors. If you go any night after 9 p.m. you will have to pick through what is left. The only thing worse than the food is the service which oddly enough is far worse. (with the exception of one or two of the server.)

The food was below average. The on large fish was unidentifiable. The small fried catfish pieces were overcooked. Frog legs were on the evening buffet and were like dried out chicken. Stir-fry was a little greasy. Desert cheesecake was dried out. Tried lunch and it was average so went back for dinner thinking it would be better but it was worse except for the added variety of frog legs, stuffed crab, shrimp and the one big unidentifiable fish that looked like it had ground beef on top of it. Was hoping to find a good Chinese buffet in the NW Austin- Cedar Park area but this isnt it.

A definant Meh! The food is not terrible if you like chicken. It seems they dont cook much else. I like chicken fine but when I go to a buffet I expect choices, lots of choices. Here it is chicken, chicken and more chicken. I have been here many times, one of the people I work with picks this place from time to time for a business lunch. (always the same experience) Obviously she likes chicken....If I am picking the Chinese buffet, we drive the 25 minutes, from Cedar Park down into Austin and go to Buffet King located on IH-35. Hope this review helps.
