BIG HENRY
We ate here in the beginning of October 2013 (on a Sunday) @ approx. 3pm - My wife and I went here thinking it was a restaurant worth trying... Wow were we wrong. This is in our top three worst tasting meals we have ever eaten in 20 years. There is nothing on the menu worth eating. We were so dumbfounded by what we ate we felt we were mugged $45 (cost for meal) I ordered their Burger (only food item able to rate - rating 2.5), Onion Rings, Fried Mushrooms (dried and hard... Only whole mushrooms edible), Fried Green Beans (these were complimentary and terrible), Macaroni (the worst - if I was blind folded and had to guess what it was, I honestly would not be able to tell you what it was), Chicken Fried Steak (gravy was tasteless and crust was not edible), Biscuits (looked like they were wheat but were hard and tasteless), and Soda and Tea... The cashier was excellent. He was very friendly and outgoing. The chairs were rinky dink and tables were sticky... and uneven. This restaurant is directed towards the elderly (no offense), as the food is truly tasteless and the texture of everything was horrendous. If this was an episode of "Restaurant Impossible" and he was taste testing the food and made his face of how disgusting it was, it would be this food. Very disappointing and will never set foot in the restaurant again. This is a real review by a real customer and spouse. This is truly not worthy of even one star, but will for rating. Lastly, I dont think this restaurant could have a better day. If you go, then go at your own risk... Or if you are 80 years old and up. We did not complain as we were in a hurry to head elsewhere. We chalked it up as a loss of our hard earned money.

The staff was EXCEPTIONAL! Friendly and with an appropriate amount of involvement in your dining experience. And this place does indeed take care of the public servants of Boerne--four law enforcement and six fire fighting personnel were tended to while my wife and I were dining. So, I wanted to give three stars, but I couldnt bring myself to do it. The reason you go to a restaurant is to eat. Our buffalo chicken tender appitizer was great. Then it all went downhill fast. Most of the food was somewhat flavorless. I had the chicken fried steak; it and the gravy were weakly flavored & seasoned. My wife had the t-bone, and it too was without significant flavor. I had mashed potatoes and they looked like they were last nights baked potatoes, just mashed up without any butter, milk, salt or pepper. Very bland. My mac & cheese was even weakly flavored. We didnt even try the bran muffin... dinner rolls should be the default. If Id known I needed to ask for a bread substitute, I would have. The furnishings were rustic, which is fine, but our table listed hard to one side, and the first chair my wife tried to sit in nearly sent her to the floor. Several of the chairs are a law suit waiting to happen. If Im rating the staff alone... five stars. The food alone... 2 and a half stars. The venue & ambiance... one star. We most likely will not be returning to this restaurant.

Really great home cooked, family style food. Burgers, chicken fried steak, pork chops, some steak, and plenty of hot sandwiches. PLENTY of choices for the sides as well. They also have bottled beer - the usual domestics and a couple of regional craft choices. Its a walk up order type establishment, so dont go there expecting table service. Food - fresh and hot and came out QUICK! We had the pony sized chicken fried steak with mashed taters, seasoned green beans, and mac n cheese. They have three different sizes of CFS - pony, regular, and large I think they are call called. The pony size seems to be about a 6-8 ounce cut of meat but with the bountiful serving size of the sides, it was plenty of food - even for a "plus sized" nobleman such as myself. Couple of notes for management though - when a first time visitor walks in and the cashier and cook are engrossed in conversation and dont acknowledge the customers, its not a good first impression. I stood there for about 60 seconds and finally had to ask them, do we seat ourselves? Thats when he explained that we order at the counter. Customer service experience after that was awesome though. Just a note, that they almost blew the whole thing.

We found this place looking online since this is our first time in the area. There were 4 in our party, and took a gander on trying it after reading some reviews. We found the restaurant via gps. When we arrived, there were no cars in the parking lot, and no one inside except a very friendly staff. We found a table to sit, and was reading the big menu in the wall. Not much of a fancy decor. Lots of tables and chairs, some booths, and some decorations on the walls and windows. The stained glass decorations are beautiful and for sale. After the staff kept watching us, we realized that we had to go to the counter to order (duh) our food. We really werent sure if this was a good pick or not. After ordering 2 filet minon steaks, a surf and turf, and a chicken fried chicken tenders meals, we got our silverware, napkins and drinks. While we were still wondering if this was going to be the right place to eat, the place got very busy. When your food us done, they use an intercom to call your name to get your food. And what amazing food it was. We were totally surprised. This is a place you cannot judge by its cover. We all had fantastic meals. We will definitely be back.

I cannot even rate this restaurant, if I did it would be in the very high negative numbers. As a native Texan who has been away from Texas for 15 years my wife and I were very anxious to try this place based on several "local" suggestions. The place was filthy, tables broken, floor had not been swept in weeks ( or at least appeared that way ) . I was a road warrior for 20 + years and admit that some of the "dives" that I ate at actually had great food. This place is a dive but the food was disgusting. We had the "famous, best chicken fried steak" only to eat a few bites, then walk away. The fries were 1/4 inch thick rounds, when one cut into the potato grease shot out, the chicken fried steak was exactly the same.....taste....horrible! The entire meal tasted as if the food had been cooked hours before and thrown back into semi-warm grease when the order was received. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. ( the 1 star rating is because a rating had to be given) Disappointed Native Texan

You get a lot for your money at this place. It is a very laid back family oriented restaurant with very reasonable prices. If you love onion rings, you will certainly like these. If you go for a hamburger, make sure you get bacon on it. it is the thick bacon and they put lots of it on there. There is a big menu with lots to choose from. The food is decent and portions are really big so unless you are as "hungry as a horse", you will be taking some home. There is no wait staff so you dont have to leave a tip. You order, then they call your name to "Come n get it!". Kids meals are only 2.99.....cheaper than FAST FOOD! So grab the kids and go!
