I too have been eating here for many years. However, it is against my will. They are almost always slow in the kitchen. The food is ok at best and the prices are higher than other Mexican food restaurants in the area that are ten times as good. Not sure if they purposely under-staff the business everyday but the service is rarely good. If you want shrimp or chicken they tell you on the menu to expect an additional 25-35 minute delay! What table doesnt have at least one plate with those items. My enchiladas look like they died under the heat lamp. They were starting to get cold on the inside while the sauce had dried on the top. The restrooms are most awful as a previous review stated. The owners have the wrong attitude towards their patrons. My wife complained about the wait and they told her that she needs more patients. Lovely! It is most certainly not the best Mexican food in Boerne. Taco Cabana is better and way more affordable.

The food is delicious, no complaints there. I had a simple dish, their summer special, which is two crispy tacos, a tostada with queso and a guacamole salad. My husband had the El Rio speci. They forgot the guacamole on my salad, and we ran out of hot sauce in the middle of eating the basket of chips they give you before the meal. We requested more plus a side of guacamole, but the waiter didnt bring it until the meal was half over, despite us reminding him. There were only two other tables with people, so its not because they were busy. His whole attitude was pretty nonchalant, and even when he brought it out with more chips he admitted that it was probably too late. He said he was busy with other stuff. Umm... yeah. For $30 for a lunch for two, we expected better service. Thats the only reason I took off a couple stars. Again, the food was delicious.

If I could do 0 stars, I would. Queso was listed as a specialty...no joke...it was seriously melted velveeta and nothing else. The chimichanga looked so awful we couldnt even try it. The refried beans were out of a can and room temperature at best. The things we could manage to eat were so bland and had no flavor. It was extremely over priced and the restroom had so much writing on the stalls...Ive seen cleaner ones in a gas station. The last time I ate Taco Bell I threw up 14 times...but after being at this place...Taco Bell seemed like it would have been a better place. You would think being closer to Mexico that there would be better, more authentic Mexican cuisine...NOT THIS PLACE!

Well, from some of the reviews here, Id say really good Mexican food attracts more morons than other kinds of food. Wow....some of those people must have been mistaken about where they actually went! My wife and I were there last week and we both agree this is the best Mexican food weve had since Habys Cafe over on Old Highway 90 back during the Fifties, when I was stationed at Lackland. Today, in fact, were taking my wifes brother and his wife there. GOOOOD food! GOOOOOOD service! GOOOOOOD prices!

This family-owned restaurant is favorite of ours; we eat at El Rios a couple of times a month. The "staff" is always friendly and the food is very good, especially anything with cheese! The prices are very reasonable as well. {Mr. Decker, I cant imagine repeatedly eating somewhere that I didnt like ("against my will...." Seriously?) Please stick to places you DO like and quit REPEATEDLY badmouthing a nice family oriented restaurant. (Three bad reviews in a row when El Rio is Googled)}

The owner doesnt like paying his employees and docking them with no proof. Boerne parents dont let your child work here. Put this crook out of business. Dont spend youre money here! Maguies is much better go there! Edit* You stole his money. Yet you have a real history of taking advantage of your employees because you dont think they will fight back. You are not honest, you are a thief. Do not eat here or let children work here.

I agree....best Mexican food in Boerne:) Family friendly atmosphere, hot sauce #1, awesome chicken flautas! My personal favorite is the Steak Sabana! We have been going there for many years. Top Shelf margaritas are wonderful! Love the late hours for a small town!!! Kitchen can be slow sometimes with large tables, but friendly staff makes up for it:) Must visit!! Youll love it as much as we do!

Some of the worst Mexican food Ive had. Not tasty. Flautas were total musj and pasty. Overcooked on outside and still cool in the middle. Chicken fried steak was overdone. Refried beans were watery and tasteless. Plates so hot on delivery that I accidentally hit my arm on it and got burned.Too long under the heat lamps. A complete horrorible dining experience.I can not recommend.

The food was really not good here. The meat in the tacos tasted old and the tortilla soup was not good. I also feel like its overpriced. Very disappointed, as I was looking forward to a good plate of Mexican food. Also the avocado slices served us on our chalupa had lots of bad spots. One point in their favor, is that the plates were very hot, and the salsa was good.

I think that the people who rated El Rio negatively are way off base... This place is great! The service is just fine and this restaurant is very kid friendly... We had an assortment of dishes this past Saturday and found them all to be delicious! El Rio is not a four star restaurant, but if you want great Tex-Mex, then you are in the right spot... Enjoy!

We celebrated my sister birthday. All of the food was top notch. Service was outstanding and the owners were walking around checking on things. We loved our total experience there. Price was right. Salsa was some of the best Ive had (flavorful, not real spicy). No problems on getting seconds at N/C. Thanks, El Rio. A perfect experience.

We went with 4 kids! Everyone was so nice and cheerful! The food was awesome!! We will definitely go back every year we go through town!!

Was in town visiting friends and went here after checking into hotel. Chicken fajitas were OK if your hungry, as was the flour tortillas. Rice I was served looked as though it was scraped out of the pan. I would never have served someone rice looking like that. There was an odor in the place and It is over priced. Will not return.

I have been eating at El Rio since 2005 on a regular basis and find the food is very good, the sevice is excellent, and the prices are reasonable. Whenever we have visitors from out of state we always take them to El Rio for a taste of TexMex food. I Would recommend it to everyone.
