Saturday was the Texas Longhorns first football game. My wife and I have ditched cable for a while now so we needed somewhere to watch the game. The first game was on the Longhorn Network so we headed to the Third Base in Southpark Meadows. They were so busy we left. We called various restaurants in the shopping center, and Green Mesquite BBQ and More was going to be showing the game. Sure why not? Barbecue, beer, and football. You really cannot get more Texan than that. The first time I had Green Mesquite was at my fraternitys alumni event. I remember that I liked the brisket, sausage, and chicken. I thought it was weird that one of the side dishes was rice. It has been at least a year since we have gone to Green Mesquite. The original location is on Barton Springs. They use green mesquite wood when they smoke their meats. You can really taste the wood in their meats. I ordered the four meat plate with two sides. My wife ordered the chicken tenders plate. They have other types of food on the menu which is nice for the wife. For my plate, I got brisket, sausage, pork ribs, and pulled pork with coleslaw and macaroni and cheese on the side. I ordered moist brisket but got lean. I have noticed some BBQ joints just do not care about the cut of brisket they serve. Everything on the plate had a good smoky flavor. All the meats were smoked perfectly, but the issue was that there was no flavor. You actually needed to use the barbecue sauce. The sauce was the typically Texas-style sauce you would find across town. They put a slice of butter for the cornbread on top of the brisket. It melted all over brisket and changed the flavor and texture a little. The brisket and ribs were tender. The pulled pork was decent and not dry. The sausage was good for being a commercial sausage. Green Mesquite is a decent choice. They are quick in getting the food out. Apparently their smoked wings are some of the best in Austin. Their expansive menu also accommodates non-barbecue lovers. Do they really exist? If you need to have a place to meet up with friends for dinner, include Green Mesquite as one of your options.

We absolutely love this place. We love all three locations but this is probably our favorite location out of all of them. My husband ordered the Philly cheese steak double meat which he absolutely loved. The focus was all about the meat which was excellent quality and double means extra extra. The bread with fresh the cheese was melty and yummy and he thoroughly enjoyed it. My absolute favorite... from this particular location of specially, is going to be the smoked Wings which I get the sauce on the side. This is the best place I have found in all of Austin for some really good chicken wings. They smoke them and then I think they might fry them afterwards to give it that nice crisp to it but they dont put breading on it which I love because I do not like breading on my chicken wings. They also seem to be bigger and plumper at this location as well. The buffalo wing sauce is really really good and does not taste like bottle sauce at all like a lot of places do and the blue cheese is fresh and really good. We also enjoyed a couple drinks. I got the Chardonnay wine and my husband got the draft Firemans 4 which was served cold and0 promptly. The service was outstanding. Our waitress, Balinda, was very nice and sweet as well as prompt and attentive without being hovering. We really enjoyed our visit here. Thank you for the awesome food and terrific customer service.

I arrived at the Mesquite BBQ earlier today and im still bothered by the service there. it wasnt busy at all. when we arrived the sign said for us to seat ourselves and so we did. it took about 15 min for someone to come to our table to ask for drinks. then it took about the same amount of time to get the drinks. the waitress passed by us many times and finally stopped looked at us, apologized to us and told me that she had a bigger table to tend to so that table had her busy and then she went to get our drinks. Then we gave her our order and i asked if she had a color sheet for my daughter to color on and she said she would get her one. she never did. i decided i wanted an appetizer so i asked her for fried pickles. our food took a very long time and when it came out it was cold like it had been sitting back there too long. the only hot food were the fried pickles that came out with our meal instead of before. i couldnt eat all my food i just ate the cold brisket and cold sausage. and i left the sides. i was very disappointed in the service. i had to flag someone else down for a color sheet for my daughter. my daughter didnt mind that her food was cold but i did.

I love Green Mesquite, but only at Barton Springs location now. Me and my boyfriend tried the south location over the weekend and were not impressed at all. I ordered their smoked wings, which are normally really good. However, these werent anything like the BS location. They tasted like they had been baked and then BBQ sauce was thrown on top of them right before bringing them out. I actually had gone to the BS location a few days prior and had smoked wings that were AMAZING because they were actually smoked and had hardly any sauce on them. Bumbed I didnt get the same at this location. It took over 20 minutes to receive our food, and that wasnt including the time we sat and waited for a waitress to greet us and take our drink order. I watched the waitress clean a table next to us and sweep the food into the customers lap and she didnt even clean off the table all the way. Wont be returning to this location ever.

Felt very discriminated against...my husband and I sat at the bar looking at the menu #1 we were never acknowledge, #2 no one ever made eye contact with us #3 at one point all workers left the bar unattended and when they return they continued to ignore us...they talked and carried a conversation amongst themselves, after several minutes of being ignored it was clear to us they didnt want to wait on us. As my husband and I got up out of our seats it was then they acknowledged our presences and quick for them to say good bye have a good evening...we are extremely disappointed, distraught that racism is very much alive in 2016 at Green Mesquite BBQ. For you BBQ lover s in this diverse grand city of Austin save your self from this type of discrimination and dont eat at Green Mesquite BBQ at South Park Meadows Austin Texas..

This was delicious!!! Waitress was nice and helpful since it was our first time there. The ribs were moist and not burnt, coleslaw was average, and the green beans were okay seemed a little under cooked but still good. The cornbread was spot on and peach cobbler was soft but no crunchy crust, fried pickles seemed fresh with a thin crisp batter, not that frozen ready kind. The chicken fried steak was good and crisp but the mac an cheese is good, not too cheesy. Few good choices of tap beer. Went at 630-7 pm on a Friday and not busy at all. Would go back!
