MOON MILK IS LIQUID GOLD. SERIOUSLY. Summermoon is my new safe haven. My old roommate is obsessed with Summermoon and I finally tried it out this year, and Im so glad I did. Its such a cute and comfortable coffee shop with an ample amount of inside seating and also an outdoor patio for beautiful days like today. Its a great place to get some work done and practically hibernate for six hours, but also a great place to relax, read a book, catch up with friends, or even grab a drink and go. Whatever suits your fancy, Summermoon is perfect, in every way. The coffee and espresso drinks are delicious, as they should be. They are the only place that I know of that serves wood-fired coffee which actually makes a difference in the taste. Their black coffee is delicious, but when Im here, I more so gravitate to any drink that contains even a teaspoon of moon milk - it makes everything so heavenly. I still have no idea exactly what it is - some sort of sweet, white cream - but whatever it is I want it. All of it. Its mine. And no sharing. The Half Wintermoon is my favorite drink as the Wintermoon (which contains twice the amount of moon milk) is a bit too sweet for me. When it comes to hot drinks, I prefer their warm counterparts - the Half Moon Latte over the Summermoon Latte. The Chai Vanilla Latte is another one of my favorites and beats out any other Chai Latte Ive ever had, and I think Im a pretty tough critic when it comes to chai lattes. The Moon Glacier (you can choose Vanilla, Java Chip, or Heath Bar) is also really good, but is definitely more of a milkshake rather than a more liquid drink which I wasnt really prepared for. Even so, I cant complain about it at all - its delicious. I havent tried anything that I havent liked so close your eyes, play eenie meenie miney mo, and take your pick! Also, for all you non-coffee drinkers, they have a great selection of Mighty Leaf teas, which are great since they are a full-leaf tea. Their snack and food options are also good and range from pastries to empanadas from Mmmpanadas which is great for some sustenance when camping out for a while. And believe me, you will be camping out for a while - theres free wifi, tons of outlets, tons of seating, and its overall a great atmosphere - great lighting, cute lamps, and interesting decor. The fact that there is parking lot in the front and in the back makes it stress-free to come and go. So definitely come on over.

Wood-fired coffee and moon milk...doesnt that already grab your attention?! Let me tell you about the WinterMoon coffee...youll get addicted; I still remember my first sip, my eyes widening, not knowing what in the world I just drank. The WinterMoon is a rich blended mix of coffee and moon milk. Wtf is moon milk?! No one knows, but Kelly S. did a great job describing it as filled with "unicorn sparkles". Personally I like the Half WinterMoon because its the perfect balance of coffee and sweetness. The regular WinterMoon is good, but its more for the sweet tooth. The coffee shop itself is very cozy, just like a fireplace. Fyi if youre going to sit at the one seater tables against the wall, do not put your drink on the table. I repeat do not put your drink on the table! I made the mistake of doing that and it ended up spilling on the floor...poor unicorn sparkles. I was so devastated that I felt guilty about asking for another cup. But I ended up asking for one anyways, and they gladly made me another one which was very nice of them. No ragrets. If this happens to you, please be sure to tip the baristas! Parking is scarce, but Ive always managed to find parking in the back sloped lot (behind the apartment complex). The bathrooms are outside in the hallway between the coffee shop and the nail salon. Power outlets everywhere, holla! I hope no unicorns were harmed in the making of their moon milk.

Summermoon is the closest coffee shop to where I live, so I go there pretty often. The moon milk is addictive, but much too sweet for my taste. I have learned to order the half-Summermoon latte (made with half moon milk and half skim milk), add an extra shot of espresso to it (to up the coffee to milk ratio), and ask for it extra hot (otherwise they dont steam the moon milk, and the latte is barely warm.) Even the quarter iced winter moon is too sweet and milky, so I order an iced coffee with moon milk on the side and add what I please. That way it is much cheaper too. The prices are pretty steep: expect to spend at least $4 for your coffee, including tax and tip. Also, dont go there if you are in a rush. In the mornings (especially later on the weekends) there can be a line to the door; compound that with the slowest baristas in town, and you can be there for upwards of twenty minutes waiting to get your coffee. A lot of review mention the political views of the owners, and some people choose not to go there because of it. Even though I am adamantly pro-choice, I have no problem remaining a frequent customer: I go there to get coffee, not an abortion. And as long as they continue to make a really good cup of coffee, I will continue to go there to get one.

This place is my go-to coffee stop as I am heading in to work about 3x a week. The reason why I keep coming back for more and more? Well, besides the Moon Milk (sugary concoction of milk and sugar with half n half), I love coming back because of the friendly baristas. No matter how grumpy I am with the morning commute and/or my lack of caffeine by the time I arrive at Summermoon, the baristas are ALWAYS friendly, nice, and smiling. The ease of paying for your coffee, pastries, and tacos n things is remarkable in terms of time and technology. How cool is it to sign away your name and calculate a tip on the friendly iPad/register? Dont forget to check out and sign up for Belly (a loyalty program that awards you points, free things, and sometimes discounts the more you use it). At Summermoon, if you get enough Belly check-ins, you could get a coffee drink named after you for the month! Check out the mirror behind the register as you wait/pay for your drink(s) and pastries - you will see the drinks named after loyal customers for that month and be able to check out what flyaway hairs you have in the mirror.

Believe the hype about this place. Its honestly unlike any other coffee shop I think I have ever entered, and believe you me, Ive been in quite a few during my time in undergrad and grad school. Normally youll see options on the menu like an Americano or a flavored macchiato, but essentially all of Summer Moons drinks are uniquely named and.. honestly, pretty ambiguous. Youre probably going to wonder what the devil a 007 tastes like, and though pretty much every review addresses the Winter Moon phenomenon, its never been explicitly clear what exactly is in it. It features the shops top-secret Moon Milk recipe, which is VERY sweet. It tastes like ice cream, or butter cake, or marshmallows, or all of the above. Thats the best I can describe it. Youll have to try it for yourself! (As for coming in to do work, its pretty popular, so if youre planning on grabbing a chair, dont come in between 3 and 5pm. Youll have a really hard time finding one, as Ive found on three or four separate days of the week.)
