I went there for lunch the other day, and I was thoroughly impressed. I ordered the spicy tuna sushi lunch for $12.95, which comes with a full spicy tuna roll (about 6 pieces) and 6 LARGE pieces of fresh sashimi. This place does not skimp on the fish! The sushi was fresher than fresh, wonderfully flavorful, and very generously portioned, especially for the price. The miso that came with it was fairly standard, but good. The only drawback was that there seemed to be only one server for the entire restaurant, which was fine at the time because there were only a few late-lunch tables, but I would not want to risk it at dinnertime. True, by appearances, this restaurant is nothing fancy (certainly not where I would take a dinner date), but the sushi speaks for itself. I am going there again today and cannot wait. (this all sounds awfully formal, but my apostrophes will not work!)

This isnt a restaurant for people who like going to restaurants. The decor is fairly drab and the food isnt theatrical. However. You will receive the best sushi available in Austin. Their chef is a miracle worker. The J-Bomb is as far from light as possible but will leave a lasting impression on your taste buds. The snow roll and crunchy shrimp roll were the best of either I had ever had. Prices are reasonable, though not cheap. However, for what you get there would be no reason not to relish in the price. Maru is for sushi lovers, not pompous socialites looking for the newest fad.

I came here for lunch with a few of the girls from work. I absolutely loved it. It wasnt too busy which surprised me! But it was really tasty. The rolls were big and filling. No surprises after you order. VERY reasonably priced. It is not a fancy place. It is pretty relaxed which is nice when you just want something delicious to eat and you dont want to get all dressed up for it! They are in a great location with plenty of parking. Bring your appetite because the food and service are both great! The bento boxes are great for lunch as well!

This place kind of looks like a dive from the outside, and parking is very limited, but its definitely worth a visit. The sushi is fresh and very reasonably priced. I got a tiger roll for $8 and was stuffed! The noodle bowls are also pretty delish. They have a curry dish that is tasty but kind of Indian flavored and clashes with the Japanese theme. Service is not fantastic; they had one waiter for the entire, full restaurant. Still, its a great place to get your sushi fix!

Maru Japanese Restaurant is your typical no thrills American Japanese place. They have a large variety of rolls with all different kind of sauces, and hey they are yummy. The best thing about it is that its spacious so its good for groups, which most sushi places are not. The Ramon here is not bad, but not exceptional because the noodles are packaged. I wouldnt drive out to eat here, but if you are in the area and have a large party then I would definitely stop by.

We discovered Maru Sushi by accident. The other restaurant we wanted to try had a long wait, so we looked up what was around and decided to give Maru a shot. Now this is the place I go to when I want some good sushi! The quality is excellent, the portions generous and prices are very reasonable. I wouldnt recommend it for a romantic date or fancy dinner because the decor is simple, but if you just want to have some great sushi with no pretense - THIS IS THE PLACE!

Maru is one of my favorite sushi places in Austin. I was disappointed when I read in a sushi blog that it was ranked the worst of everything. It’s not a super fancy place by any means, but that’s one of its appeals to me. It is very casual and the staff is always really nice and provides great service. The Samurai roll is wonderful and is something that I haven’t seen anywhere else, but they also do a great job with the sushi staples.

I went here with a friend and had a wonderful time. The ambience is pretty low key and not all fancy, but neither are the prices. It is very reasonable. I highly recommend doing custom hand rolls. We did several and they were loaded with fish and the other compliments we requested. Also, this place is BYOB. We brought in our own bottle of wine and enjoyed that with dinner. I would go back again.

Surprised this place doesnt have better reviews! Ive tried several other places like Musashino on Greystone, which has better reviews, and nothing seems as tasty as Maru. I always get their sushi lunch special which has a lot of sushi for not very much money! - Several large special nigiri sushi and a tuna roll. Great deal. Staff is super friendly and cute. Family run. Decor is clean and homey.

Pretty darn good sushi. Very convenient location for me. Two of the three rolls Ive tried were fried, which is too much fried stuff for me. I didnt realize the samurai roll would be fried since the menu did not indicate. Even still, all three rolls were good. In the race for Burnet Rd sushi domination, I prefer Maru over Roll-on, but I think Hanabi beats both. I still need to try Ichiban.

Very cute little place. The tables and chairs arent fancy, but dont let that fool you on the quality. Some of the creative dishes are really awesome. Try the stuffed jalapeño or stuffed mushroom - not traditional sushi but amazing!!! Maguro was a generous portion and really good. One of my new favorite spots for an unpretentious great meal.

This place was incredible! I am new to the area and Ive been looking for a sushi place in Austin. This was my 4th restaurant Ive tried and I am now done looking. The fish was fresh and the prices werent to bad for the quality of food youre getting. Our water cups were never empty and the staff was very friendly!

One of Austins best kept secrets for delicious sushi. This restaurant is family owned and operated, and the owners are always gracious and thank every customer before they walk out the door. They offer sake specials and feature newly-created rolls weekly. They have sushi bar seating as well as larger tables.

The sushi rolls at Maru are consistently good. They have a great variety and usually fill the rolls up with fish, rather than lots of rice and only a little filling. I have liked everything I have ordered and usually get Maru when Im in a sushi roll mood. For sashimi though Ill hit up DK Sushi instead.

I love this place! The staff recognize my partner and I every time we walk in the door. They are super attentive and we never leave less than full. Food here is very reasonable and extremely tasty. In many years of coming here I have never found a bad dish. In fact try the J Bomb, its fantastic!
