I love competition, and surely the greatest contest to participate in must be the quest to find the best lunch buffet you can. Royal India is a particularly strong contender, as it has an excellent and reasonably priced buffet with many fine options, that rotate out so you can sample a large number of different items on different visits. Here are some of the ones Ive had and liked: - malai kofta (vegetarian dumplings in a curry sauce) - aloo beans (seasoned potatoes and vegetables) - goat curry (very tender and not too stringy, with a good flavor to the curry) - zucchini jalfrazi (a thicker, spicier sauce that goes great with the eggplant) - medhu vada (tasty deep-fried lentils in a donut shape) - spinach pakora (fried spinach leaves with a deliciously addictive coating) - several types of chicken (e.g. butter, tikka masala, and tandoori, of which their tandoori chicken is some of the best Ive ever had, much moister and more flavorful than a lot of other restaurants) - the obligatory fresh naan - for dessert, rice pudding and gulab jamun (balls of fried dough in hot honey) All of that food is great, but, as they say: wait, theres more! Their buffet also features a dosa station, where a gentleman will concoct you a gigantic dosa (the Indian equivalent of a crêpe, made with rice and lentils) with a seasoned potato and vegetable filling. Their dosas are the size of dinner plates and go great with both the mint and sriracha chutneys. This buffet will run you $9 on weekdays and $11 on weekends, and it is well worth it, especially with that dosa station, which quite frankly makes trailers like Nomad Dosa obsolete. Their staff is also quick, competent, and friendly, willing to chat about the food and make recommendations. I havent yet ordered from their full dinner menu, but as soon as I can tear myself away from the siren song of their noontime deals I plan to. This currently has a slight edge over nearby places like Bombay Bistro and Pakwan for the title of my favorite Indian lunch buffet in southwest Austin, much as I love those 2 other fine places. Lunch competition rules.

I have been wanting to visit Royal India since it opened so when the Groupon for it showed up, I had to give it a try. I was a bit disappointed though... The service in the beginning was very slow for a Saturday night. The hostess offered us a booth or a table and when we said booth, they made us wait 10 minutes for one when there was plenty of other seating available - if a booth isnt open, dont offer it! It took over 5 minutes to get our drink order and an additional 10 minutes to take our food order. When our food arrived, it was not what we ordered. We ate it anyway because we really like Indian food and were willing to give anything a try. We chose medium spice but everything was very mild so if you like an actual kick in your Indian food - order the hottest option! Overall - it was OKAY, I have had much better in North Austin... So, I wont be going back. The experience and food is not worth the prices they charge.

I dont really write reviews but the Austin needs to know about this place. This was an excellent restaurant! I dont know if this place is new or just never heard of it but we just happened to stumble upon it since we were near by but like I said we had not heard of it before hand. The food is literally the best Indian food I have ever had- fresh and perfectly spiced. Every dish I tried was amazing. Even the apps like samosas and naan were incredible. The service is quick and courteous. I wish it were more visible and it wasnt very busy when we were there which was surprising given that it seems like an amazing find. Best of all its reasonably priced! I wish I had known about this place before. Ill Definitely be a repeat customer! If youre looking for amazing Indian food this is the place to go.

We had a really bad experience. I seriously doubt the restaurants hygiene and the importance they give to it. I found a strand of hair in the food and when I asked to get me some fresh replacement, I was told that the hair did not belong to anyone in the kitchen and it must be from customer and the staff refused to get me a replacement. This is the most ridiculous explanation someone can give you. They did not paid enough attention to the customers, they were not refilling the buffet and people were scrapping the food from the containers. Although most of the dishes did taste good, such attitude is probably the reason for the little attention they are getting. I WILL STRONGLY RECOMMEND AVOIDING THIS PLACE.

Ive eaten at this restaurant a number of times and it still remains my favorite Indian restaurant. This place has 5 star quality service which is the thing I find most pleasing. The food is home cooked and authentic, unlike many other Indian restaurants in Austin. Big fan of their tiki masala and naan bread. Never really seems to be busy either, which I find strange since its such a good restaurant. Really wish they got more credit for their quality of food and service. Austin definitely needs to give this place a try, for sure one of my favorite restraunts.

Im no expert on Indian food, but I know good food, and trust me when I say the food at Royal India is outstanding. The reasonably-priced lunch buffet (which also runs on weekends) is the best way to do it because you can sample a variety of dishes and figure out what you like. The saag paneer is always a hit, and the chicken tikka masala is crave-worthy. The staff take special care to make sure the buffet items are always hot, fresh and available. If youve never tried Indian food, I highly recommend trying Royal India for a safe foray into a new food genre.

We didnt even get a chance to eat. I made reservations when we arrived we were seated promptly, after that we waited 25min to try and place an order. The hostesses all said they couldnt take our order, only the manager is allowed to take our orders. The same manager is also the only person allowed to cash you out and is the bartender. Running a restaurant like this is only setting yourself up for failure. We went for the food and let because of the service.

I love this place. It is without doubt my favorite restaurant in Austin. Ive tried all the other Indian places in Austin and this is the most authentic/home cooked style Ive found- I had a roommate from India for years and miss his home cooking so much- this place fits the bill. Lots of good vegetarian and gluten free options, but great meat dishes too. Love the pickled veggies and sauces they make here especially.

Went here with a friend. The food was good, not great. The service was excellent and everyone was very friendly and eager to please. I ordered my food medium spicy and it was not spicy at all. In fact, I think they need to increase the overall spice level here. To be fair, I had just gone to another Indian place 2 days before and I think this one suffered because of the inevitable comparison.

Visited this restaurant along with my family, and we all loved it. The food was authentic, fresh and above all very tasty. The gobi manchurian, the chicken tandoori, and the chili fish were delicious! Im surprised this place isnt as busy as it should be. Ive been to other Indian buffets and this on the top of my list now. Next time Im in the Austin area I will surely make a stop at this place.
