With the closure of Sri Maharaja the opportunity to fill a void in serious Indian cuisine in Lubbock arose. Im exceedingly happy to report that Royal Indian Cuisine has done exactly that. RIC is a cozy and cheerful restaurant if less grand than Maharaja. The waiters and waitresses are earnest and helpful, and the owner is often on hand to see that customers are satisfied. As to the food, it is utterly splendid. On my two visits Ive had the spinach and onion pakodas, both of which were faultless, and two chicken dishes, chicken Hyderabadi and chicken masala. The former was terrific, while the latter was equal if not superior to any Indian dish Ive had in a restaurant, and Ive had them across the western hemisphere. RICs menu is voluminous, and given the excellence of the dishes Ive tried so far, I look forward to exploring it exhaustively. RIC does not, as of yet, serve alcohol, but you can bring your own wine or beer. One other note: as of the present RIC is still ironing out some supply issues, so the entire menu, as of May 27 anyway, is not yet available. This is the only flaw that Ive seen with the restaurant, and I suspect it will be rectified very soon.

Delicious food, clean restaurant, friendly and courteous staff. The owner was perfectly engaging and conversant without being overly-attentive. Itll definitely be a regular customer. Ive eaten at Indian restaurants in large cities (Washington, DC; Nashville, Boston, NYC, London, UK) and the food here was on par with the quality youd get in a big city where people know quality Indian food. The prices were very reasonable for the buffet. The buffet had a variety of foods that would satisfy both vegetarian and meat-eating diets without a problem. Suggestion: when you move to menu-based dinner service, keep the chairs as they are and throw some matching linen tablecloths on the tables. That should fancy things up enough to justify what will likely be a higher priced dinner menu.

Went there on a Friday for lunch buffet. The place is small, shady, not very clean and the menu options are limited. Only 2 people serving the entire buffet hall. Used plates stayed on table until we checked out. They refilled the dessert on request and that too very small amount so that people think its almost gone. Plates are too small, they look like salad plates. Plates and bowls are not sufficient and they dont even notice that! Restroom vents dont work. Food was average. However, they charged us $26 for 2 people. I have been to many places and tried many Indian restaurants around US. I have never seen such an overpriced under performing Indian restaurant. This is the first time in my life that I have left without paying any tips.

Wonderful vegetarian and meat dishes. I was blown away by how flavorful the potato and pea samosas are, that such simple ingredients could pack such a punch! The lunch buffet is good, with nice variety, but I enjoy dinner service more because you can order from an extensive menu (the only tough part is knowing what things are -- dishes are listed by number & name only, with no description -- Google is your friend). Ive worked my way through about 10% of the menu and hope to eventually try it all. Nothing I have had has been disappointing. Note: if you choose hot as your spice level, it will be full on nose-dripping, sweat inducing HOT. I prefer medium.

Contracted this restaurant to serve 100 people on an important night. We had them make chicken curry and for some reason it was PAINFULLY spicy. So me as a gentleman went to ask the owner who is seen on the right side of the photo posted in their profile about the food. In an instant, he got offended and told me that there were PLENTY of customers he is HAPPY to lose. And that I was "CROSSING LINES." I wish I could rate this place a negative. Im willing to give some FREE business ethics class to the owner because unlike some people, WE STILL CARE about improving and DIGESTING friendly criticisms!

My husband and I love Indian food and were worried when we moved to Lubbock that we wouldnt be able to find a good place. Royal to the rescue! Their dishes are fragrant and tasty, they dont skimp on veggies or meat, and they are attentive to customer requests for spice level. Definitely recommend their lamb vindaloo (spicy!) paired with their navrattan korma (medium or mild!) for a terrific dinner. Fast and stellar service for both dining in and take-out. We will be back!

Wonderful food, good pricing and great hospitality! The family that own this business and their staff treat you like part of the family, not just another customer. We went here today for my birthday lunch and had the buffet. Food was fantastic and the owner even made a plate for my daughter that is too young to enjoy the more spicy items on the buffet. We were very impressed with every part of our visit and will definitely frequent this restaurant!

I stopped by Royal Indian Cuisine with some colleagues today for lunch, and was very pleased with my experience. The food was all very fresh and delicious, and the staff were all very kind and welcoming. The naan was fresh off of the grill and deliciously soft. The Royal chicken curry was fantastic as well. I also liked that it was very easy to get in and out within an hour, making it a great lunch spot. I would recommend this restaurant to others.

Royal Indian Cuisine is the best sub-continental cuisine in Lubbock. They have an affordable buffet for lunch where you can explore the menu and learn what favorites you would like to order for dinner. The menu is extensive, and your research is rewarded with the authentic metal serving vessels that remind visitors of India. Youd have to fly to the Largest Democracy on Earth to have a similar experience. 50th St & Memphis Ave is much closer!

We visited Royal Indian Cuisine last night for the first time. Customer service was great, very knowledgeable. The food was OUTSTANDING!!! We ordered Chicken Samosa for Appetizer and then Lamb Kadai, Shrimp Curry and Shrimp Tikka Masala. He also made us Spinach Chana Dal (lentals with spinach) that wasnt on the menu. If you have never ate Indian food, I suggest going to the lunch buffet. And the only day they are closed is Thursdays.

The lunch buffet is a great deal with good variety and fair prices. Usually have chicken tika masala and tandoori chicken. Menu items are even better if you have a favorite. They serve many dishes the same and you can just the protein and have numerous veggie options. Serve chicken, lamb, goat and pork. Very friendly owners and wait staff always wanting to make sure you enjoyed your meal.

My 2 year old and I eat here on a weekly basis nearly! The family is so kind and Ram never misses a beat with our daughter when we dine in. My daughter will eat any curry medium to very spicy (she might be of high spice tolerance with our cuisine taste). Try the Royal Curry its a perfect balance of tang and spice, if you get chicken, beware for there will be bones!

First time I went for dinner, everyone was really nice and helpful. I was able to find a delicious vegetarian dish. Next time, I took my dad during the lunch buffet which worked out well because we could both try out different dishes. My number one place to go for Indian Cuisine! Also, I did not know we could bring our own wine?
